Do you believe Billy Packer?
Middle Buffalo replied to LosMediasBlancas's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) The backlash from Jesse's comments was NOT minimal. That comment along with his marital infidelity pretty much sealed his fate as an ass clown. I don't think he's really been hurt too badly by these things. He's still omnipresent in all things race related. If you're referring to Jesse as a Presidential candidate, ok, he's done. But, I don't think he was ever a legit possibility anyway. When guys like Sharpton and Jackson run for office, it's for publicity - nothing else. Oh, well. You know what they say about people who argue on message boards.... -

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) I agree that we are overly PC, but this is not one of those situations. If you guys were at work, in a meeting let's say and you used the term 'f**ged out', you would expect there to be no repercusions??? I'm not saying Packer should be crucified, but there is no way you can use that word during a TELEVISED interview, in that context and not expect some heat. My bigger problem is not so much with the overly pc reaction (though I think it's unneccessary), but it is with how it is selectively enforced. For instance, Jesse Jackson once referred to New York as hymie town, and the backlash was minimal. In fact, when a white person makes an insulting reference to blacks (eg. Michael Richards), he is for some reason expected to apologize to the black community through Jesse. Al Sharpton has done similar things, and yet Imus is expected to apologize on Sharpton's show. A few weeks back I heard Chris Rock on Dan Patrick and saw him on Letterman, and he did quite a bit of his material that portrays whites as evil. He gets a pass? What's the difference - skin color? Enough already. Imus is an idiot. Quit watching him and he'll go away. He's at death's door as it stands, anyway. -

I like Billy Packer and Tim McCarver. Not my favorites, but I think they do a good job of explaining things that are obvious to most. I think Packer meant "f**" as wuss, and I really don't care. Overly pc people bother me. I'm tired of people overreacting to harmless stuff like this. I didn't realize that the board automatically edits offensive words. I typed "f**," and magically the word "f**" appeared. Soxtalk is f**ging out on me. -
This is my favorite thread since the one about consumption of raw eggs leading to a big "load."

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) Haley appears to be doing the "sex sells" stuff full tilt now. And I am a buyer. I thought she sang pretty well last night, and then she got very little reaction from the judges. Maybe I'm in love.

I rarely know any of the bands mentioned in the music thread. I am a square.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) Anybody else think LaKisha comes across like a total b*tch? You just know she is moving into Diva world ASAP. That sexy pose she ended her song with last night - pouty lips, bedroom eyes------------------------- NOT sexy.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 06:40 AM) Well last night, the judges didn't even know what to say about Sanjaya. As usual, Melinda, Lakisha and Jordin were the top three. Gina might have a problem tonight because she was forgetable. I think Phil will go home tonight though. I thought Haley actually sang and performed very well. And she was definitely not forgetable. MMMM! Phil goes. Sanjaya and Haley are the two I root for each week - for vastly different reasons. When they go, so do I.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) I thought Sanjaya was so horrible. His voice was all over the place. It sounded like Peter when he was going through puberty in the Brady Bunch. Sha na na na na. I'm sure you could have found a different, less offensive reference. Mods, ban this guy.

QUOTE(Balance @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) I have to disagree. I listen to the podcasts from the show pretty much every day, and I think the show has improved dramatically since the addition of Bonaduce at the beginning of the year. In the first week or two, Danny would step on Adam or Teresa when they were talking, but their chemistry keeps improving the more they work together. You wouldn't expect a baseball team to jell perfectly in the first week of spring training, would you? He still steps on their toes very often. I think they need hand signals or something. Even when DB waits his turn, he usually is off topic. There's an entire forum devoted to opinions (mostly negative) regarding his performance. http://adamcarolla.15.forumer.com/index.php?showforum=12 Best thread from that forum is "Danny's Myspace friends..."[/url]

QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) It was a nice summer day so we liked the idea of sitting on our asses waiting for the lot to fill up with carts. After a couple hours, we assembled something like 108 carts. We could have gotten more, but the train was so long that customers couldn't back out of their parking spots. They became upset, so the three of us started to push the train. We could barely move it. That's exactly what I did, but I had to deal with the wrath of angry carpenters and plumbers waiting for me and my newfound hernia to push the carts. My favorite job ever. The other thing I used to do was give people advice about stuff I really didn't know how to do myself. My job was loading cars and pushing carts, think I know much about building a shed or planting a garden?

When I didn't follow Howard Stern to Sirius (mostly because I don't have the time), I started listening to Adam Carolla. The show was pretty good. Not as many big laughs, but he's always pretty interesting. I got used to the show. This year, they blew up his staff and added Danny Bonaduce to the show. It's a wreck, as Danny doesn't know when to not speak. The chemistry is awful, so I went to the website to see what others thought, and they agree. I occasionally (almost accidently) post there as a result. Where else do you post?

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) I did it for one year as well. The people asking for double paper in plastic were the worst. Talk about a pain in the ass. Not as much as pushing carts thru the snow, but it still sucked. Speaking of pushing carts, I saw some automated s*** at Target last week. The kid just hooked the carts together and drove them in. What's up with that?? I set a record at Builder's Square pushing the longest train of carts from the lot into the store in 1992. It stood until the day they turned it into a dollar store. The mutants that worked with me loading cars looked at me like I was C3PO in a world of Ewoks.

That is long!!! I'm going to try some of that with my kids! My son (8yrs) quits very quickly if he doesn't do something well right away!! He's done it with sports (baseball and soccer) and some with school! I have tried to tell him all I want is effort, but that doesn't really seem to work!! Sometimes it feels like he fails just to upset me!!! And I don't get upset that he's not doing well, I get upset that he's not trying! He can't tell the difference, though! Exclamation points added for your critique, CC!!!

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) The person that could effectively generate power from cat poop (or dog poop) would be a gazillionaire! A never-ending completely renewable resource! I'm sure Al Gore is already working on this.

QUOTE(Beltin @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 07:18 AM) People here promote all kinds of crap in their signatures/avatars and it is their prerogative. Much of it is muted promotion of sex, tv shows, college teams, etc. and none of it has to do with the White Sox. Until you pointed it out, I did not even notice the link in his signature. I am not familiar with WSI but I do know I enjoy threads started by StatManDu far more than I like enduring one thread after another debating the OF and 5th starter. Please leave the man alone. The Brady Bunch is not crap! Take that back. -
QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 05:59 AM) Oh come on! What did he ask? I can't remember what the question was. What I remember is that it really had nothing to do with the homily, and the priest was visibly not all that happy about being interrupted. It was a religious question though, and the priest answered. Then the guy followed up with another question, and the priest gave a short answer and said he'd be happy to talk about it after church. I'm assuming the priest went to confession shortly thereafter and confessed to lying to a parrishoner in church. My dad was with me, and he was stunned.
-
I was at mass one time and a guy raised his hand during the homily and asked the priest a question. I couldn't believe it. The guy was doing the Horseshack hand wave in the second row until the priest finally stopped and acknowleged him.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) Indeed. If I had to restrict myself to one everyday American micro, it would be Sierra Pale. Bigfoot is out and about now, btw. Snatch it up while you can! I'm going to make a crazy suggestion here I know, but have you thought about rinsing off one of the old straws to keep around for just such an emergency?? I know that's always been my strategy for when I discover I'm down to my last rubber anyway. . . Fine, I'll just save all the old straws. They're easy enough to clean. Speaking of condoms, I just turn them inside out and give 'em another go. It's like new, and I get the pleasure of the ribs.

El Duque. Best game. Jack McDowell 1-0 against Seattle (I think it was Randy Johnson pitching for them). Ok, I'm officially old. I searched and can't find the best pitched game I remember. Never happened? Was I looking at BlackJack through goatee colored Sox shades? Closest thing to what I remember was 2-1 Sox over RJ. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SE...199406250.shtml Guess that makes me a fan.
