My a-hole neighbor spent - no lie - the month of November erecting his Christmas decorations. On December 1, my wife came home and he had a sandwich board on the curb announcing "Lighting Ceremony Tonight! 6:30pm Sharp." When I got home about an hour after the ceremony, the cul-de-sac was full with him, his a-hole family, and three neighbor families. They were all looking at the house when I pulled into my driveway. OK, his house looks nice, but not really any nicer than mine. It took me about 6 hours total over 2 days to string my trees, put up two stories of icicle lights, some candy cane lights, a small manger scene, an *ahem* iflatable snow globe, and wreath on my door. Six hours vs. one month. And I'm not exagerrating when I say he was out there for about four hours four days a week.

QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) so the next day will involve memorizing about 100 greek/roman gods and what their story was, only to forget it a few hours after the test. college is so useful I took 4 classic civ classes at U of I. It was very useful for Jeopardy - and nothing else.

I love the Real World/Road Rules challenge shows, even though I no longer tune into the Real World and I never watched Road Rules - and I have a serious dislike for 95% of the people on the show.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) that's what I'm talking about I just noticed that it's your sig, and I can't figure out how the tune goes with those words. Those guys are pure, unadulturated, blond headed geniuses.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) For Blondie, Call Me, Heart of Glass or Rapture can do I guess. Rapture is a terrible song. -
I like mmmbop by Hanson.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I'm not going to pretend to know anything about this kid, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come from our international scouts. He was in the Little League World Series last year. From 45 feet he's unhittable. Don't know how that translates to MLB.

I have a Taiwanese friend. He's Japanese.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Some more rumor fodder, from Rotoworld, and it doesn't appear that anyone has a damned clue what KW has in mind: Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, Javier Vazquez - The White Sox still appear likely to move a starting pitcher, opening up a rotation spot for Brandon McCarthy. There were reports a couple of weeks ago about Garland being on his way to Texas, but besides Jose Contreras, he should be considered the least likely candidate to go. The other common rumors have been Garcia to the Angels and Vazquez to the Mets. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Buehrle-to-St. Louis possibility pop up at some point. Possibility: Vazquez to Mets for Aaron Heilman and RHP Philip Humber Prediction: Stays Possibility: Buehrle to St. Louis for Chris Duncan and RHP Blake Hawksworth Prediction: Stays Possibility: Garcia, Brian Anderson and RHP Lance Broadway to Toronto for Vernon WellsPossibility: Garcia and Jerry Owens to Seattle for C Jeff Clement and George Sherrill Prediction: Goes Vernon Wells - If Alfonso Soriano is worth $138 million, Wells should receive a deal in excess of $150 million when he becomes a free agent next winter. He'll be two years younger than Soriano when he hit the market, and he has much more value on defense. Since the Blue Jays aren't likely to pay the price, Wells could be moved this winter. Texas is the top destination on everyone's mind, but because there's a good chance the Rangers can sign him as a free agent, it wouldn't make much sense to give up a king's ransom now. The White Sox should also be very interested, and the Angels might not rule him out even after overpaying for Gary Matthews Jr. Possibility: To Texas for Brad Wilkerson, LHP John Danks and RHP Wes Littleton Possibility: To Angels for Erick Aybar, Jeff Mathis and RHP Stephen Marek Prediction: Stays (until July) Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli - Crawford has been mentioned in connection with teams like the Angels and White Sox since the summer, but Baldelli looks like the better bet of the two to go now. The Rays wouldn't mind opening up an outfield spot for B.J. Upton, and either Crawford or Baldelli could bring the team the young pitching it needs. Some of the teams that could have checked into Baldelli's availability include the Marlins, Rangers, White Sox, Orioles, A's, Rockies, Brewers, Cubs and Red Sox. Possibility: Crawford to White Sox for Brandon McCarthy, Ryan Sweeney and David Aardsma Prediction: Stays Possibility: Baldelli to Florida for Scott Olsen and RHP Jose Garcia Possibility: Baldelli to Oakland for Joe Blanton and RHP Jason Windsor Possibility: Baldelli to Milwaukee for Jose Capellan, Carlos Villanueva and Greg Aquino Prediction: Goes Miguel Tejada - Since the Orioles are collecting veterans with the idea of being competitive in 2007, a trade seemed a lot more likely a year ago than it does now. Tejada only figures to move on if there's another star coming back in return. That said, if the Orioles could get the Angels to give up Casey Kotchman along with Ervin Santana and Erick Aybar, they really should go for it. Possibility: To White Sox for Jon Garland, Josh Fields and Brian Anderson Prediction: Stays Possibility: Figgins and Dallas McPherson to White Sox for Joe Crede I'm confused by Rotoworld's writing style. I'd like them to adopt the Larry King "..." style.

I like it. I'm gonna wait for the ribbed version, though.

New York Football Giants. Anybody else hate this? Does every lame sportscaster have to use this phrase now? The baseball team moved to San Francisco in 1957!!! Is anyone still confusing the New York Football Giants with the New York Baseball Giants? And, oh by the way (another waayyy overused phrase on ESPN), the New York Football Giants play in NEW JERSEY!!! NEW JERSEY!!!! NEW JERSEY!!! I hate you Chris Berman. That is all. Middle Buffalo

I downloaded Adobe so I could open files with a ".pdf" designation. How do I create the same kind of file? Do I need a special program?

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Meh, I like that idea. It's better than most others to decide home-field advantage. They should use the overall winning percentage of AL v. NL in interleague games to decide which league deserves the homefield advantage.

That episode was terrible. That prison "scared straight" bit was really unfunny. I like Steve Carrell (sp?), but a little less of him would go a long way.

I just finished decorating the outside of my house for Christmas. Everything was fine until I got to the last strand of lights, and then a fuse blew. Now I have to re-wire everything. Humbug.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Can't leave out Cal-Stanford Unbelievable, but I didn't actually see that live. I did forget the Kirk Gibson homer against the A's. I love the video because you see all the brake lights of the cars that were leaving the stadium early to beat traffic. I'll bet those people leave that part out when they tell people they were at that game.

As far as sports memories go, Flutie throwing the hail mary to Phelan to beat Miami is one of the greatest sports plays I've ever watched live. I really can't even think of anything that ranks with it (Sox WS victory aside). I guess the '80 Olympic win over the Soviets would be greater, but that wasn't live. Every once in a while you can see this game on ESPN classic, and it's a great one to watch. 22 years ago. Man, I'm getting old.

More and more, as the years passed, I found myself just hoping to not get injured. I took my "skills" to the offensive line the last few years. Finally, I just said, "No more." And to make it final, I moved to Arizona, the only state in the US where football is not allowed.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) If we're talking musically, it's Paul. He can pretty much do it all. He can play any instrument and can come up with a great tune for a song in about 5 minutes. He's a genius. I don't disagree, but why has he been unable to come up with great tunes for 20+ years? Same thing with the Rolling Stones. How is it that these guys with all this talent aren't able to evolve and keep making relevant music?

Let me see him do that with his mouth.
