  1. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) Isn't ANY Stephen King movie adaptation Well, Shawshank and Stand By Me are both actually really close to the book versions. I don't think too many changes were made. Different Seasons was a great book (4 novellas) that I'd recommend to anyone.
  2. QUOTE(BabyJesus69 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) selling tickets at the box office won't make a damn bit of difference. brokers and scalpers will just pay crack addicts a few bucks to stand in line and wait. the only way to stop this from happening would be to keep dumbasses from buying tickets from the brokers. And then we have a half empty stadium, 50,000 attendance posts, and John Kruk calling us out on ESPN.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) You are not a true Sox fan! You must always yell "STRETCH!" on fly-balls and follow K's with "HE GAWN!" and HR's with "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES!" Oh, and whenever there is a ball hit into the LCF and RCF gaps, you MUST scream "AARON....AARON...AARON....YES!" I occasionally disappear for an inning or so to take a dump. Is that Hawk enough for you?
  4. Demand was intense. There was nothing wrong with the system. Etc, etc, etc. Somehow, there will be a guy outside the stadium with a handfull of tickets before each of the games, though.
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Well, you can look at it another way... some of the pitchers on the roster openly say Boomer taught them some great things when he was here. So, is that worth it if we go on to win it all? They would have found Rush street and White Castle eventually.
  6. I find it so hard to believe that someone associated with this team for 20+ years would stay away from them during the playoffs. This doesn't happen every year in Chicago, Hawk.
  7. QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) yeah pretty much. cant really think of an exception off the top of my head Both "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Stand By Me" are pretty close, if not better than, the literary versions from Stephen King's "Different Seasons."
  8. He stole $7 million (or thereabouts), reported fat and out of shape, said deal with it - that's how he pitches and he knows his body, and proceded to get hurt and miss most of the season because he's a fat load. The following season he signed with the Yankees and showed up in great shape (relatively) and had a good year.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) Oh you youngin's need some history lessons... :headshake The "Kiss Him Goodbye" tradition dates back to the 1977 South Side Hitmen team when Nancy Foust started playing that song during a key series against a rival (I wanna say KC) during the pennant race. The crowd responded and went nuts singing it at the top of their lungs after every HR. As a matter of a fact for a long time Nancy used to play "Runaround Sue" after a pitching change, while it has always been Steam for a Sox HR. It still gets played today, except she only plays the chorus through once, instead of repeatedly like she does for a huge HR. I asked about the "Runaround Sue" thin yesterday in another topic. Do they still do that?
  10. QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) lol i'm pretty sure that i always thought they were the same person. (by the way is it a personal attack if i attack myself?) Don't know. Is it sex if you're alone?
  11. Why were so many people logged in to Soxtalk on Jan 12, 2005? "Most users ever online was 351 on Jan 12, 2005 -> 12:42 PM" Something big happen that day? It's before I was a member. I'll hang up and listen for my answer.
  12. Now it tells me I'm only eligible for 1 ticket to a game. Huh?
  13. I guess I confused ticketmaster. "There was a problem processing your request. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you submitted an order, and are not sure if it went through please check Order History or contact Customer Service."
  14. I thought nobody liked going to Sox games. Did the neighborhood change? Somebody build a bunch of bars near the park?
  15. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) ALL of the Doobie Brothers? (Y'know, they aren't really brothers.) "Which Doobie you be?" Classic "What's Happening" episode. One Doobie died, BTW.
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) my favorite quote from their game thread regarding Bobby: "I'm telling you, this kid is Billy Koch in a fat suit... " Gotta admit, that's pretty funny.
  17. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Tom Hanks is an Oakland A's fan. He was involved in the HBO documentary on Oakland sports. He was rooting on the Red Sox last year on top of the Monster. He is a Dodger fan. See a pattern here? He is NOT a White Sox fan. I love Bill Murray but I'm gonna puke if we start to see Murray, Belushi, Cusack and the Usual Suspects coming around Tom Hanks is Jay Mariotti?
  18. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Smart money says that we will get Joe Buck (who is very good) and Tim McCarver who is , well Tim McCarver. Not sure if Bret Boone will join them this year or not. The NL will likely get Thom Brenneman and Steve Lyons. They won't have Al Leiter this year so I don't know who else they will get. This probably could get switched if the series didn't have Boston and NY but St. Louis advances. Buck is the A-team so it's hard to say although I think the AL will get him no matter what I've never really understood the McCarver bashing. He says some really obvious things, but not everyone who watches the playoffs is a die-hard baseball fan. So, it's kind of nice to have the announcer explain things. Boone added nothing to the booth. Bret, when all else fails, cry.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) Why would this bother you? He may have interned in chicago, but he is from New York. If you moved to New York for an internship, would you expect to change allegiances? True. Same goes for Gammons being a Red Sox fan. As a broadcaster, he's supposed to be unbiased, but he is a Red Sox fan first and foremost. I thought he was pretty fair after the game. I'm listening to the game on ESPN radio at work, and I had to listen to Buck Martinez go on an on about how smart David Wells is. He sets guys up, blah blah blah. Must have had a brain cramp when Iguchi took him deep.
  20. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) There's a Sox version. Only goes to about '83 though. ...."Talkin' Baseball....The Southside and The Sox..." It's a really cool version. Let me guess..."Talkin' baseball, Hickey and Claudell"
  21. David Wells can't help it if he sweats butter.
  22. Do they still do that "runaround sue" thing at the games? That's pretty cool when the crowd starts doing that.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 2, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Black Jack and Pearl Jam Link I found it, McDowell is good friends with Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. Check out the hair on Black Jack. Black Jack was with Vedder in New Orleans in the early 90's and his ass beat by a bouncer. I don't remember the reason.
  24. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) there good now but what happens when the team slumps worries me Building loyal fans isn't done overnight. Kids who are 10 today will be fans for life if the sox can make a run in the playoffs. If they follow it up with an exciting product next season, more casual fans will join in. Attendance would have been higher, but the sox picked the end of the season to slump. Any casual fans probably had less reason to go to the games as a result. Thanks to all you soxtalkers who have made trips to the park this year KW should have some money to spend in the offseason. I'm off the ledge for now. Thanks BMac, Jose, Freddy, & MB. Cancel the paramedics for me.
