**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
TaylorStSox replied to TaylorStSox's topic in SLaM
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but there have been several references to the Mad King hiding caches of wildfire all over King's Landing. Tyrion had Varys looking for it and Cersei had Qyburn looking for it. I knew what they were talking about immediately. The Lannister arc has been pretty obvious for a long time. Cersei is going to burn down King's Landing and kill Tommen. Jaimie is going to kill Cersei and himself in his redemption arc. -

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:06 AM) I still don't like the theory that the Qyburn "rumors" are wildfire from a writing perspective, but given that they mention cities being burned down EVERY EPISODE NOW, that's probably it. She's had him looking for wildfire in the books and show. What's the issue? -
In this thread, Caufield and Dick Allen will post a lot.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) This is the issue with looking at stats in general. You can manipulate them any way you like to make a point. What one person thinks is important, another does not. This is the issue with WAR and many of those other overall numbers. The people who created them created it with what they though was important. So they are biased toward that line of thinking. You don't need to manipulate stats to fit your narrative if said narrative is that Avi Garcia is a real s***ty hitter.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) Bad episode. They spent how much time setting up the fight between the Arya & the Waif and they don't even show it? They build up a potentially awesome siege at Riverrun and then nothing. Hell, they don't even show the Blackfish going out in a blaze of glory. That wave between Jamie & Brianne was hokey beyond belief. And I thought we'd finally move forward in the King's Landing and we made some, but not nearly enough progress. The Battle of the Bastards will be awesome next week and episode 10 should be cool if finish the King's Landing stuff once and for all, but tonight's episode was a disappointment. Arya and The Waif fight mirrored Syrio, but the outcome was better. I actually prefer some offscreen fights. The siege at Riverrun's only purpose is to advance the characters of Jaime and Brienne. They both laid their cards out and found a mutual respect/love. That was never going to be a great battle. The Tully's were vastly outnumbered. It would have been idiotic to show the Blackfish in some crazy sword fight after they've spent several episodes talking about how old he is. It's just not realistic. King's Landing made a ton of progress. No more trial by combat. They revealed wildfire and Tommen broke up with his f***in Mom. Cersei is incredibly desperate and she's going to burn the whole city down. As always, there's a lot of progression, it's just not the outcome some people want, so they pretend it's bad television, despite being some of the best produced TV of all time. -
I haven't seen shields pitch in a long time. How is his stuff these days?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) I'm not jumping to any conclusions, all I'm saying is I think shoehorning Solo into this movie during reshoots is stupid. The end You're not jumping to conclusions, but have concluded they're doing reshoots to include a character?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Fantastic Four. I mean it's pretty universal. reshoots are never good. Great Gatsby. Reshoots happen in any movie with a budget to back it. Mad Max Fury Road had some of the most extensive reshoots in history. That turned out okay. There isn't much correlation between reshoots and quality of the film.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) Reshoots 6 months before a movie comes out and adding a core character out of nowhere sounds like an ass saving maneuver. Apparently the movie has tested not too good and Disney is not happy with Gareth Edwards, and they are trying to fix whatever they see as wrong with the reshoots. http://io9.gizmodo.com/more-details-have-b...ne-r-1779744810 "Tonally off" is the only pertinent quote from that article. I'd guess it's a little too dark. We don't have any info about the Solo role in the movie. You're jumping to conclusions based on speculation. It's hard to take that seriously.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 31, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) It is forced, there is no need for it. How are you going to say it's forced when you haven't seen the movie? They could be doing reshoots for a number of reasons.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 31, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) I get that. But in the show, has she ever really suppressed how she is with the Faceless Men? She's said she's no one a whole bunch, but she killed Trant and couldn't keep a straight face during the 7 Kingdoms show. Syrio isn't an apt comparison. She trained with Syrio for practically no time. That's entirely different than her spending two seasons with the Faceless Men. We're led to believe that Bran can become the 3ER in that time. During Arya's time with the Faceless Men in the show, she's scrubbed a bunch of floors, got beaten up a lot, and learned to fight with a bowstaff while blind. I always assumed that Arya was going to be a lot, lot deeper with the Faceless Men before she had the moment where she had to face whether she's a Faceless Man or a Stark. Not wanting to kill a nice lady actress seems like a cheap way to have Arya reach that reckoning because the show never conveyed that she had really given up being a Stark in the first place. Simply put, what has changed between the end of last season when she killed Trant instead of that merchant and now with Arya? Seems like at the end of last season, when put to the test, she chose being a Stark over a Faceless Man. Where has their been development in Arya's arc this season... The point is that she hasn't changed. She's tried to force herself to be no one and she cant. As far as a reckoning, we still don't know that. There really isn't much to her story in the source material either. They probably wanted to keep her in the show, but had to wait for the rest of the story to catch up. It's made clear Bran wasn't ready to be the 3ER, but there is literally no choice. There was even a line about that. We were never led to believe he was ready. -

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 31, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Other than bowstaff training (while blind), and practicing lying, what training has Arya gotten in the show? Her entire arc with the Faceless Men has been open defiance (killing Trant, not killing the actress) without any forward momentum. Arya is clearly an important character to the end game, and her time with the Faceless Men is important to her arc - otherwise Martin and the show wouldn't have devoted so much time to her. I'm not sure what she's learned in the show that makes her important going forward. But I agree, Arya's arc could have used a time jump... She's learned something I've had the impression the Kindly Man always knew, she is a Stark and the North remembers. Were people questioning why she didn't suddenly become a bad ass swordsman when she trained with Syrio? Her wholee arc is about her trying to suppress who she truly is and what she's learned from it. This goes back to her time at Winterfell and her time as Arry. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 31, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) So Benjen...are we supposed to believe that he is the same and the CotF healed him or is he also now some sort of supernatural being? GRRM has specifically stated in the past that Benjen is NOT Coldhands, so it would kind of irk me if the show actually calls him that at some point. GRRM says a lot of things that are complete bs. He's a bit of a troll. He also claims LSH isn't Cat. -

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 31, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) What test did the Waif have? Anger and resentment. Its not the FM way. If Arya kills the Waif and brings the body to the House of Black and White she fulfills the need for a death. Iirc, the Kindly Man just said one way or another, another face will be added to the wall. -

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 31, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) For as much time as Martin and the show have spent on Arya, that would be such an annoyingly, terrible, ending to her arc. Also, has Arya picked up any real skills in the show? She's a better (but not good enough) liar, she's a better (but not good enough) fighter, and her sneaking skills aren't great (based on the fact that the actress she was supposed to kill noticed Arya was at a ton of their performances). Were you expecting her to be some bad ass ninja in a year? Obviously her skills have progressed. We'll have to wait to see how much. It's amazing to me how much some viewers need everything spelled out for them. -

2 things: The Dany scene was important because she's embracing being a conqueror and finally actively leaving Essos. I actually think the Waif is the one that failed the test. Arya can pay for the life spared with the Waif's life. -

Whatever happened to that girl, Mo'Nae Davis? This is the first game thread I've checked this year and it starts with Caufield referencing the velocity of a little leaguer from almost 15 years ago. -

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) They're not providing that at all. They've killed 3 people Oberyn would never have wanted killed. They've betrayed Oberyn. Moreover, Oberyn's death wasn't an injustice. He entered a legal combat and lost. So how do you avenge him? Kill the Mountain? Sorry, he's dead. Kill Tywin, who was largely responsible for the original grudge? Sorry, he's dead. Lannisters in general? That's silly. I don't think anyone watching GoT was clamoring for the deaths of Doran, Trystane, or Myrcella, nor do they want to see characters like Cersei, Jaime, and Tommen eat it. If anything, most viewers want the Sand Snakes to die so they don't have to be on screen anymore. Of course Oberyn wanted to kill all the Lannisters. That's why he was in King's Landing in the first place. He would have never killed Doran though. Why would he have cared about legal combat? He's avenging 2 babies that were raped and stomped to death. That's slightly different than poisoning a teenager. Books 4 and 5 aren't a slow play. They're a bad, meandering prose from a guy trying to milk the cow for all it's worth. I wish they would have cut Dorne altogether, but Oberyn was too good a character to skip. Killing Doran and omitting Aegon and Quentyn have been some of the best decisions they've made imo. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) If you want to cut characters, the easiest thing would be to keep Arriane and lose the Sandsnakes. You can still have your poor attempt at creating a sexy badass, but then you have a real heir after you kill Doran. The audience wanted vengeance for Obyren. The Sand Snakes are providing that. You can't have a slow play for vengeance with every family. The Starks' long-play is lol'bad in the books. *edit* The Martell's are also lol'bad in the books. I can't think of a more useless POV character than Quentyn. I've read all the books twice, and I still don't remember much about Dorne because it's absolutely boring as s***. -

GOT has hit that point where it's en vogue to criticize every aspect. The only show I remember being immune to that criticism was The Wire, though people complained about how boring certain seasons were. Book Dorne is a boring mess. Show Dorne is a campy mess. However, killing Doran was the first time my jaw dropped while watching the show. I didn't see that coming. I loved last night's episode. -

That HR and a line drive he hit off the wall when he first was called up in T. O. were the hardest balls I've ever seen hit in my life.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Not that the female lead is a problem, but they did just have one. I did get a sense that they may have been forcing it in that regard, but Daisy Ridley was great so who cares. Honestly, that's such a weird thing to say.
