Indians @ White Sox Game Thread 5/27
TaylorStSox replied to glangon's topic in 2014 Season in Review
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 27, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) Where the hell is Andersonville? -
This thread has it all. Creepy Avatar Guy creating argument after argument to troll. Caufield going off on a tangent completely unrelated the thread. And Marty. Awesome work guys. You make the site a joy to read.

Indians @ White Sox Game Thread 5/26
TaylorStSox replied to glangon's topic in 2014 Season in Review
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 26, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) The only one of either of those that has ever graded negatively in his career is his 2013 defence, and that wasn't by much, and that's been addressed by moving to a less strenuous defensive position. I'm glad De Aza scores well in defensive stats. It does more to invalidate them. Any stat that says he's anything other than atrocious is a stupid stat. -
White Sox vs Yankees Game thread 5/25
TaylorStSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2014 Season in Review
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 25, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) Yesterday's game was so huge you'd think Coop would have demanded to get Bella the hell out of that game. Although Downs would have blown it too I'm sure. It's not like the Yankees were hitting line drives all over the place. -
In before Creepy Avatar Guy!
-
It would be cool if Konerko would stop being so selfish and just retire.
-
Sale was just nasty tonight. What's the stat for helmets flying off heads during swing and misses? He was making good hitters look like kids.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) Why would Semien be untouchable? His best position is 2nd base, and I would argue that Micah Johnson is a superior prospect to him. I don't think the Sox view Semien as a future SS, and he would be third on the depth chart behind Gillaspie and Davidson. In what world is Johnson a better prospect the Semien? That's crazy talk.
-
I like the way Conor handles the bat. I don't think very highly of Davidson.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) He can play SS everyday. Semien is a bigger priority to me than anyone else but Davidson who is at AAA right now. This. Semien is a much better prospect than anyone in AAA, including Johnson.
-
Is there a way to just have a Caufield random thoughts thread? That way he doesn't have to interject them in threads that have little to do with his posts.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 20, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Don't forget that Abreu has an opt-out for arbitration clause in his contract after 3 seasons. It's very likely if he continues to mash that he will become an expensive players for those final 3 seasons with us. That's always something to remember when we root for him to win 3 straight MVPs. That's fine. If he has 3 great years and falls off, we decline.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) His K-Rate is also being pushed up by the time he was playing hurt. Link? I just want to know if this part of your agenda is backed by facts?

Beckham feels no added pressure from Semien/Johnson

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) Can we just kill two threads with one stone and agree that Beckham is the reason attendance is so bad? His face keeps girls away from the park. -
I don't think much of Garcia, but I like the other pieces we got in the Peavy deal.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) I was specifically referring to the guy who blasts redundant threads and actually calls people mouthbreathers, and this guy can't go a week without telling us Gordon Beckham sucks and has a little head and is ugly.... Beckham has struggled, but he has also shown flashes. People think Gillaspie can improve. Beckham is less than a year older. Gordon had 2 really bad years in 2011 and 2012. 2009 he was great. 2010 he was horrible in the first half, outstanding in the second half when he got hurt. 2013 he was hitting well, but with zapped power from a broken wrist. No one wants to give him any slack for that, and then played with a really bad quad, and his numbers suffered. I have said if he stays healthy, and that is a big if, he is very talented and will put up numbers that will shut at least the reasonable people up. I know there are quite a bit of people too invested in their Beckham sucks beliefs not to acknowledge any good that he will do, but if he stays healthy, you all will see. He started off this year hurt again, but seems to have his stroke back after a slow start, where he was still hitting the ball hard. It wouldn't be the first time in MLB history a 27 year old turned it around. Haven't you posted how you are bothered the Sox didn't sign Salty? His first above average offense season happened when he was 28. Hey guys, he's talking about me! -

Beckham and Keppinger are comparable, right? The Sox just paid $8M to have Keppinger go away. What does that say about Beckham's value? -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) Beckham started off slow, but has picked it up. $3-4 million is nothing in today's game. If he stays healthy, IMO his numbers will more than warrant that kind of deal if the White Sox want to go another direction. Picked it up? His numbers are on par with his career. Gordon Beckham is not an everyday player. Maybe if he was a plus SS, not a mediocre 2nd baseman. Comparing A 27 year old Beckham to a rookie Semien is ridiculous. The entire lineup isn't giving the same type of AB's as when Eaton and Semien were in the line up. They took a lot of oitches, made pitchers work and set a tone. Semien's K's are the result if getting deep into counts and not being able to fight good pitches off. He won't learn how to do that at AAA where pitchers don't possess that type of stuff. They should probably send Semien down, but that doesn't absolve Beckham and his 5 years of sucktitude. -
It's be nice to have Eaton and Semien to work some counts.

Nieto has everything moving at the plate. That's gonna be high maintenance.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ May 12, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) Dude no one is saying he had a lot of value just that he should have been dealt when his value was at it's highest. Again- not saying its high value but for him, it was his highest. Now, there is basically zero. Injury prone journey men have no value worth talking about. There was never a time to sell high on De Aza.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:54 PM) In retrospect, we should have sold high on DeAza after his first couple of seasons with the White Sox. It's been all downhill since then. That whole a player (especially one whose game is based on athleticism/speed) hitting their prime at ages 27-29 seems to be a textbook case with him. Yes, I know we have a strong counterexample in Ramirez, but at least there's a reasonable explanation (for the performance drop and lack of concentration) about the loss of his father in law/personal tragedy, etc. Sell high on De Aza? I swear some of you guys live in this bizarro world where either A. Other GMs are complete idiots that don't actually follow baseball, or B. You know more about baseball than GMs. There was never a time to sell high on De Aza.

Chris Sale to start Thu May 22 vs Yankees

Not a big fan of his first comeback start being against Tanaka. I don't want him trying to prove anything. -
The Sox aren't very popular. /thread

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) Do you really like Nate Jones as a prospect? If so, I defer, but what makes you think he will be adequate to special? I know you guys love stats but Nate truly truly does not pass the eye test. I can't remember too many guys I've deemed eye test failures who ended up good. Hopefully I'm wrong. How does Jones not pass the eye test? He has the best stuff of anyone we've had since Jenks.
