QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ May 7, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) By sending him down you actually get more future Semien, as his free agency would be delayed a year if he spends another 1.5 months in the minors. Meanwhile i want Beckham playing, and i am really no fan. I want him producing for a bit so we can ship the guy out, as that is basically something that needs to happen based on what he costs/what he gives. He's too costly to be glove-only 2b. I didn't know about his arbitration status. That changes things.
-
I'd rather see Semien work through his struggles in the majors, but I don't expect SS2K and the Beckham fan club to agree. They're pretty emotionally invested in him.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Read the first line. It is an old NBA JOKE. My fault. That went over my head. Edit I was probably too stoned to realize it. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) The old joke in the NBA is that in the80s and 90s the players choice was coke and it was a dynamic, high flying league. Now that they test for coke the league turned to pot literally as there is much less scoring and the league is less dynamic. You have to be kidding me. You're really finding a correlation between recreational drugs and athletic performance? That's pretty absurd. I'm sure Lebron is smoking blunts at half time. Do you actually think the entire league was blowing rails on the bench 82 nights a year? Maybe it's improved defense and rule changes. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 7, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) Are you telling me that someone in the league smokes more pot than Lincecum? Please, he will smoke any and every challenger under the table. I really don't care. My point is that smoking pot didn't cause his, or any other athlete's, decline in performance. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 7, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) No, not in the short term. But players used to do this with ibuprofen to feel better during games and discovered that they got kidney problems later in life. Pot as stated before with regular use will cause cardiac problems later in life. Pot doesn't cause cardiac issues, smoking does. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 7, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) I imagine that smoking pot everyday would take its toll on a ballplayer eventually. Worst post of the day candidate. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 6, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Has Rock said anything towards this situation? Rumor has it that's Sale is leaning towards an amputation and is looking to pitch with his right hand. -
I think Davidson has bust written all over him, but I still like the trade. The reward outweighs the risk. Reed was the definition of expendable.
-
I won't go to a game when the weather is this miserable, especially after enduring this winter.
-
At least Beckham's upping that trade value. The Soxtalk gurus nailed that one.
-
K Zone had all 5 pitches to ADA as strikes.
-
Can they just drug Beckham and leave him at Wrigley? He's a bro. He would fit right in.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 5, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) It's hard to call it a pitching duel with guys like Sierra and Beckham in the lineup to be fair. Yeah, it's not like other injury plagued teams don't start bad players. I mean Quintana and that dude who played football for Notre Dame suck. What did we expect? Wanna borrow my handkerchief?
-
Remember the good old days when people used to enjoy pitchers duels between studs? Now people just cry. I blame wrestling... And the internet.

Was just looking at the Cubs stats...Olt continues to suck balls.

Drill, baby! Drill! Sorry. Wrong thread.

I've read the books twice. Feast and Dance are really poor. It's obvious Martin doesn't have a great plan and just keeps writing and writing. Arya and Barristan's chapters are good, but everything else is completely tedious. Martin really isn't a good writer, but the strength of the story carries him. I would always recommend reading the books first, but the show has done a good job tightening up Martin's sloppiness.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) I think they care given that they follow them pretty closely (with some obvious exceptions) and most of their changes are removing characters/simplifying stuff due to time constraints. George also still writes significant episodes. However, they can't wait forever obviously. I have no idea how much they know. That's obviously a consideration. If it's basically "everbody dies" or something along those lines, that's a lot of stuff to fill in. They met with Martin last year to get the details for how the story will play out. There's no chance the show doesn't pass the books. HBO owns the rights to the story now. Martin is a contributor, but has no say in how the show plays out. If you don't want to spoiled, stop watching. They'll be in WOW territory next year. Also, there won't be Coldhands. His character is just a vehicle to get Bran to Bloodraven.
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) You obviously can't tell it EXACTLY like it is in the books because 4 and 5 are basically concurrent. However, if you've read the books, you know there are issues once they finish the SoS material. What are they going to do, start making s*** up after They signed on for two more seasons, and it's going to lose a lot of steam if we have two years of That's why I'm not sure why they're getting into FfC and DwD stuff on some of these storylines, unless they know WoW is coming out soon or already have a really good outline. I'm not one of those people that freaks out because Daario's hair isn't blue, but I want the show to keep being good and that will be tricky once they reach the tipping point. Again, this is assuming WoW isn't out anytime soon, and I tend to be pessimistic on those things. They're going to pass the books and they don't care. The show runners know what happens.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) There's still TONS of good Storm of Swords stuff they have to get through. That kind of filler would likely be much more useful next season when they don't have as many major events to work with. They're not telling the story in a linear fashion like in the books. Dany and Bran's story have both already gone into Feast and Dance territory. The writers aren't going to have a clusterf*** because they know the story. They can tell it however they see fit. It's Game of Thrones, not A Song of Ice and Fire.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) I hated GoT last night. WTF are those story lines? You're crazy. That was phenomenal episode. I love the deviations. The 4th and 5th book pretty much suck. I want to get through those storylines ASAP.
