  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) PK to bat for Beckham? Hopefully.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) Yes but he gets treated like it. There will actually be some very unhappy people when he starts hitting. I don't think you'll ever have to worry about it, Creepy Avatar Guy. That was a nice play though.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) That would definitely explain the increased Z-Contact rate, but the O-Swing is what I think is the real key, which comes either from newfound patience or improved ability to recognize s*** pitches. Vlad Guerrero disease. A guy with great plate coverage needs to realize that just because you can hit a ball at your feet doesn't mean you should swing at it.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) I think the change in his approach to pitches on the outer half is a big reason he is seeing a much higher contact rate. He had gotten extremely pull happy in previous years, where he would try to yank those outerhalf pitches to LF. Now he is swinging to those pitches and punching them into RCF, very similar to what we are seeing out of Flowers. Sure there will be some regression after pitchers make an adjustment, but I think both end up putting up much better numbers this year because of the mental and physical changes in their approaches. I think he's just a classic case of a guy that was always trying to do too much instead of relying on his natural tools. He's always been a very gifted hitter. He doesn't need to try to hit the ball 500 feet on every swing.
  5. It can't be good for team chemistry for Beckham to know the guy that's about to take his job is sitting on the other side of the bench. It's just awkward.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) 3 AB and he's done in a White Sox uniform. Some of the stuff you post is beyond funny. Actually 2,220 AB's, but who's counting.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) I think people are excited for Semien like they were excited for Beckham in 2009. If Beckham were doing what Semien is doing, you're damn right people would be upset because there's 2500 plate appearances worth of sample to see that he would be repeating himself again. With Semien, people see talent and it's a change, and the grass is greener sometimes. Like I said, if the team feels it's best that Semien get sent down, that's fine by me, but I'd personally like to see him up for the remainder of the season. It's similar to the Santana/Jimenez discussion this offseason where one of those players may be superior at this point, but I'd like to see if the one on the team can be a long-term answer or if the Sox need to do something. Obviously, I'm not in control of that, but if Semien ends the year with a .725-.750 OPS, then I think it's safe to say we are looking fairly good at 2B. We have a large sample size from Beckham and the outcome is predictable. Well said.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) GMAB. If you're going to reply end the rant and answer the question. I did answer the question.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Without getting into the Semien discussion, I'm genuinely surprised to see Beckham coming up since AFAIK he hadn't done jack squat with the bat at Birmingham. Has that changed the last couple days? He hasn't done jack squat with the bat in 4 years, on any level. Nobody can even come with an argument for why he should be playing.
  10. Somebody please make an argument for Beckham being an everyday player. Semien is striking out because he works counts and he's seeing a lot of these pitchers for the first time. He's not going to learn to fight off major league pitching in AAA.
  11. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) What is? You're strawmanning like crazy here. Nobody said Beckham is a good player. You said he earned the position and shouldn't lose it due to injury. He hasn't come close to earning a damn thing.
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Yeah, re-read the thread and look for anything close to a glowing review of Beckham. You're pretending that he actually has earned 1 more shot. He hasn't. He f***ing sucks...hard.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) He plays 5 positions, none of them particularly well. Using your favorite eye test, I have not seen a plus defender at all. He has botched a lot of plays this year for the time he has been on the field. He has fast. That is about it so far. Garcia does things the vast majority of infielders can only dream of. Bobbling a few balls doesn't change his tools. I've never seen anything like the Beckham apologists among Sox fans. You guys make Team Brian Anderson look like cynics.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) His numbers in AA this year mean nothing. He was rehabbing. It's like spring training numbers. How has that translated for Jordan Danks? Besides, Beckham has better career numbers than Semien. So if Beckham doesn't "deserve" it, why would Semien? Have Semien start taking some fungos in the OF. It's not a big deal having an infielder play some OF. Having an OF move to the infield is a bit more complicated. Many forget, Alexei Ramirez debuted as a CF for the White Sox. Gillaspie said he probably will miss a few more days. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up DL'd. First, you say certain numbers are meaningless, then say Semien numbers mean something despite the sample size. God this is obtuse. You'll say anything to argue. Are you Marty's uncle?
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) What's so funny? Garcia terribad. Can't hit worth a lick and Danks is better in the field. His one asset is his speed but is prone to some De Aza moments. You are right about that. Garcia plays 5 positions. He's an elite IF. He steals bases. Versatility.
