  1. M&M's guy doesn't do cold/rainy days either. The only thing that could get me to the park would be free Scout Seats.
  2. There are actually people in the bleachers. Take that attendance haters!
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) Don't ignore all the context the OP baked in -- he's ignoring every part-time player and Darwin Barney and is including just the last two years. Take a look at his 2012 and rethink that. Remember he plays in the Cell. The Cell is an awful park for players that have moderate power. The gaps are incredibly small. There aren't any nuances that make it better for hitters. There's also the wind off the lake factor.
  4. It's not even really raining on the west side, just a light sprinkle.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) Adam Dunn really did hit a homer yesterday. That really happened. Did Avi actually hit a ball in the air? Now that would be something.
  6. The strain of the flu going around this year is brutal. I had it over the last few days and I was kid sick. Slept for 16 hours straight. Had hallucinations... That weren't even fun. Man, it sucked. I'm just empathizing with Conor.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Why are they moving Semien around already? I can understand with L.Garcia, he's not an integral piece of the long-term plan at this point, but I don't know why they're seemingly content with turning Semien into a utility guy. Just increasing his versatility before Beckham returns? Still don't get that, because he should be in Charlotte playing everyday at either SS or 2B, one or the other. Probably 2B, with Carlos Sanchez at SS. Connor is so selfish that he got the flu. Connor hates the team.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Semien doing this and handling this ASAP solves so many issues. You want to give him a chance to get this done as he has room to grow. The best case scenarios of this impact BOTH this year and future years, because he is under our control for a long while. There are just absolutely no downsides to sticking with Semien. If he struggles for a whole year, you learned about what you need going into next year. If he takes off and succeeds and gets comfortable, then you just helped your contention chances in the present as well. I literally just cannot see the downside of looking for anyone else to do this. I agree. There's no reason to coddle Semien. Give him the job and let's see what we have. If he flames out, Sanchez and Johnson can step in and have a go. He's 23. He's had 1400 MiLB PA's. He's shown to be a quick study.
  9. Call me old fashioned, but I just want a guy with good bat control that can work a count. Beckham has neither. Any stat that says Ramirez the worst hitter in baseball is a stupid f***ing stat.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Not only did Eaton look horrible, but that balk pitch that didn't count was absolutely filthy. Deduno was throwing a lot of sliders but that pitch had a lot of hump to it. I was worried Eaton was going to hurt himself with the swing he threw at it. Didn't Stone say it was the best pitch he's seen all year? Why do the Twins have him rotting at the end of the bullpen? The Twins are just brutal. I know they have some good prospects, but man they suck bad. It doesn't help when your franchise player is a better Mark Grace.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) PITCHf/x says Deduno threw 7 fastballs, but it's hard to tell because all of his fastballs always have sink or run (or both) to them. He doesn't really throw a straight 4-seamer. And a guy with Deduno's stuff is going to make a lot of guys look really bad. Nobody squared a ball up against him, and Eaton looked even worse. That's a guy I'd really like to see the Sox get if the Twins ever let him go. He's nasty. He's got the nice combination of having good stuff and having hitters terrified because nobody knows where it's going.
  12. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) No, thats Heart. The singer of Rush sounds like the singer of Heart?
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) I'd love to see Semien's swing today vs. his swing last year. At least on opening day he was swinging through the ball. Today it seemed as if he was pulling his swing up short. Lots of weak pop ups before the strike outs. That's the biggest sign of being in between. He's guessing and starting his swing defensively. He might get over it tomorrow.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) He shouldn't be hitting cleanup, but the Sox offense is bad. Deduno obviously feared him enough today to pitch around him, and it ultimately led to the game winner. Abreu is a far superior hitter to Dunn, but acting like Dunn is a complete chump up there is wrong. I have only seen two of Semien's ABs, so, if we're making judgments based on 2 games, I can make judgments based on 20% of his plate appearances. The first I saw was his last appearance on Monday. In June, July, or August, that ball is gone or off the wall. He scalded that ball. Today, he got rung up on a perfect curveball on the black when he was looking for a fastball. Again, it's 2 out of 10, but Semien has looked fine to me. He appears to be seeing the ball well and has a plan at the plate. I love him already, and he's 0 for 10. I've seen all his AB's. He's just in between right now. He's too passive at the plate. Against the Twins reliever with real good stuff (name escapes me), he started the bat on every pitch in a defensive manner. Every single hitter in the history of baseball goes through it. I'm not giving up on Marcus and I'm not anointing Beckham the second baseman after watching him basically suck for over 4 years.
  15. Ramirez has shown throughout his career that he's a more productive hitter when he's towards the bottom of the order. I'm not going to extrapolate anything from 2 April games against one of the least talented teams we'll face, ever. The Twins are going to be all time bad imo.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) I think Leury put himself ahead of Semien for the role of super sub when Gordon returns Let's throw out an entire minor league track record in favor of 2 games.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) Last year this team would have folded. Nice win. not really. The Twins just flat out gave that game away. They're a bad baseball team.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) honestly I don't know what they see in Veal. It's not like his stuff is overpowering and if he just got his control problems fixed he'd be good. His stuff isn't even that good. Veal has nasty, nasty stuff. The problem is that he is scared to challenge hitters.
  19. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Who cares. He had an open base and two outs. Hey that guy's trying to rant. Don't let logic get in the way. Veal is awful.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) That's like saying the beer ain't good A well done, frozen burger topped with old Mac n Cheese, that's starting to separate, and bacon bits. I'll pass.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Hey man, you're the one saying the Mac and cheeseburger didn't look good. That's as negative as one could be! I was being serious about that.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Against a left hander in Perkins? There's no way Conor's going to hit instead of Konerko. I'm mocking the game thread. I thought we were just supposed to see who could be the most negative.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) It's not creepy. It's Geddy Lee. And Sullivan had an article about Ozzie thinking about going to USCF last year. It said JR was told Ozzie was thinking of coming to the game and JR said "good". I had to look up Geddy Lee. That's random. Rush is the group whose lead singer sounds like a girl, yeah?
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Konerko should be pinch hitting for Flowers if we get down there. Only if Conor is too sick and Dayan has a stubbed toe. Konerk's is awful.
