Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize

The NCAA is a billion dollar business with free labor. Coaches are millionaires. AD's are millionaires. It must be nice. -
Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) BS. Welcome to adulthood. Everyone gets paid in proportion to what they generate... Just no one likes their own portion. Yeah, while the NCAA makes billions off the tournament using these kid's labor and likeness, the kids get $12 a day for meals. Totally in proportion. -
Northwestern Wildcat Players Attempt to Unionize

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) At the end of the day, they want the best of both worlds. They want the free ride, and they want to get all of the benefits of work. If anyone else got a $100,000 gift, they would be paying taxes on it. In principle, you're right. However. Students on athletic scholarships in the 2 major sports generate far more income than the cost of their scholarship. The universities and NCAA make billions off the labor and likeness of these kids. The scholarship isn't proportionate to the income they generate. -
I'd rather have Ramirez in the bottom of the line up in hopes that he starts turning on more balls. I remember Robin saying that they were asking him to last year, but he was too focused on trying to be a 2 hitter. If he can show more of that old power, his trade value goes up greatly at the deadline.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) Lol, Im just talking about how creepy crazy he looked. Also, he had a machete in his hand, no? Yeah, he had a machete. It was a cool scene, but Breaking Bad ruined me. Immediately I thought, that guy isn't scary, he's just cooking meth.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) That actually makes a lot of sense, I agree with that. The final scene in True Detective was creepy as hell, that was like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre moment. And Woody Harrelson does nothing but get the hottest chicks in the show naked. The guy at the end was cooking meth, not wearing people's skin.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 06:33 AM) Nope. I actually went back to Safari because of how slow Chrome has become on iOS. Haven't had any issues since (iPhone 5 and Mini Retina). Is there a specific website you go to that crashes? Maybe it's the website, I can try it and see if it crashes other iOS devices. It happens on multiple sites. I also have problems with my iPad crashing and shutting down both in Safari and other apps. It happens at least once a day. I would get an occasional crash in 6, but since updating to to 7, it happens all time. After looking around, it seems to really common. Apple is supposed to come out with an update soon that fixes it.

Does Safari crash all the damn time on iOS7 for anyone else? My God it's frustrating.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) Considering Edwin Jackson could very well have prevented the Cubs from getting Tanaka there is one. Of course there is always the best example of Carlos Boozer coming to Chicago as a consolation prize, and then being a salary blackhole preventing the Bulls from doing anything else of use. Boozer? Does Santana count against the MLB salary cap?

In Chicago, you can get I Bonded with multiple felonies. You think a millionaire will do time for some misdemeanors? Lay off the Top fellas.

The best reply in message board history is "who cares?" in a clearly titled thread. Who cares? You do. You read the title, opened the thread and took the time to reply.

DUI at 8:30 AM? Solid work.

Phegley doesn't pass the eye test. He has an atrocious looking swing. It has a bad plane, it's forced and it looks manufactured. He's really bad behind the plate. He isn't athletic. He doesn't move well and his reactions are bad. He's also a prime candidate for PED's. Flowers is already a juicer, but his swing, while flawed, is much more natural. It has easy pop and he demonstrated a very good eye in the minors. He moves well behind the plate for a big guy and frames pitches well. He has a much better pedigree. Most likely neither player is the answer, but I would roll the dice on a healthy Flowers. Plus, I made an awful bet on Flowers so I need some redemption. Also, the Sox wouldn't have signed him to a $900,000 deal if he was totally out of the plan.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) Phegley is likely going to be the starter, so your wish has probably been granted. Based on?
-
Realistically, the Sox have about 30-40% of their own market. They don't have a multi billion dollar TV deal. They can't afford to buy their stars, they have to develop them, sign smart mid tier FA's and be creative in trades. Signing prospects to $120M+ deals is bad business for the Sox.
-
If the Sox signed him and he's a bust. It's financially crippling. As I've said all along, and why I never cared to really follow this deal, that's a lot of money to pay for a prospect. I wouldn't even consider half that for a superstar in the draft. Hell, I wouldn't want to commit that type of money to an All Star. The Sox don't have the market to absorb huge risks and fail.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) ERA: Bailey - 40th. Quintana not top 40. Sale 17th BB/K: Bailey - 18th in MLB. Quintana not top 40. Sale 5th K/9: Bailey - 21st in MLB. Quintana not top 40. Sale 9th WHIP: Bailey - 16th in MLB. Quintana - 39th in MLB. Sale 10th BAA: Bailey - 22nd in MLB. Quintana - 38th in MLB. Sale 14th OPSA: Bailey - 23rd in MLB. Quintana - not top 40. Sale 13th Bailey actually measures closer to Sale than he does Quintana I'm way more curious where each rank in their league.
-
That's always scary. He was young and pretty fit looking.
-
I can't believe anybody would guarantee 100M+ to a guy that's never pitched in the majors. That's an incredible risk. Edit 120M+ Motherf***ers stupid.
-
That's a lot for a prospect. I'd pass.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) I don't know.........It is a move that is done over and over again. I don't think it was meant to be a dig at Illinois, just something that creates more suspense. No, it really isn't.
-
For a pitcher without good stuff, Quintana makes a lot good hitters look really bad. Velocity is really overrated, but I'm hesitant to say that any LH starter that can run it up to 95 doesn't have good stuff.

Is this the most boring speculation thread ever? I seriously can't get through more than 2 or 3 posts every time I open it.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Let's go back and remember all these "AJ's OPS is so easy to replace" arguments where posters put forth the idea that Flowers would be a better player than AJ and blah blah blah it would all happen so quick. I really want to point that one out because that was really dumb and lasted for a while. Not as bad as the Dan Hudson love fest though. I was one of those. Flowers was playing with a torn up shoulder though. I'm still not conceding. My worst rant was on WSI. I was irate when we traded Reed and Olivo for Garcia. I thought Reed and Olivo were future All Stars. I must have called Garcia a "fat drunk" 5 times in that thread. I'm actually surprised they didn't ban me.
