You mean there's no honor among thieves?

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) f***ing windows was working on a very important proposal on which I was already past due...had left my computer open for a nap... computer updated by itself and I lost all changes I had made (pretty much an entire day of work) because the autorecover apparently f***ed up They have this nifty little function now called "save." Like Balta said, disable auto updates.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2013 -> 07:59 AM) And unfortunately that's been a really bad thing for the white sox. Not really, but okay. Dunn's bat has more than made up for the small drop off in defense.

I loved the way Q kept challenging him. Kid's got stones.

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) He's another year older, and he makes a lot of throws into the dirt that Paulie has to dig out. Will Dunn be able to do that next year? Also Alexi played 2nd in '08 when we last won the division. Maybe we recapture the magic???? You realize Dunn has played a lot more games at first than Konerko this year, right?

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) If Semien is ready next year to play short, and no deals are made, I hope they consider moving Beckham back to 3rd and Alexi to 2nd. Why would they move Alexei to 2nd? He's a better SS than Semien and has a much stronger arm than Beckham.

"off the field" issues blamed for Ramirez's high error

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Dunn is a bad example for this, because he never made excuses of it, he never mentioned at all. He took full blame to his awful season, whether or not his personal life affected him or not. I respect him for that. Somebody earlier in the thread mentioned it in response, and that's how he was brought up. I get disappointed when excuses are made, like Robin bringing up Alexei's off-the-field stuff as an excuse for his awful defensive play this year. Or Torii Hunter doing the same for Prince. I realize it could be hard to do your job with other stuff on your mind, but these players are handsomely paid to perform on the grand stage, if you underperform, I think the player should take full blame or he shouldn't be on the field then. Ramirez has struggled defensively, but he's been far from awful. -

I've suspected this all year. His physical tools are still there. His head hasn't been in the game. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) Mantle had BLAZING speed (before the catastrophic injuries) and 550 foot home run power...Trout rarely hits homers like that...and Mantle also had a gracefulness about his game whereas Trout's more just brute force and dynamic energy. Would never put Trout out there as a comp. Honestly, your over the top love affair with Puig has made you lose all credibility in these kind of topics.

Sale Viciedo Quintana Jones Garcia Quintana is really intriguing. His stuff keeps getting better and better. At this point, I think he consistently throws harder than Santiago. Watching Sale learn how to pitch is really fun. I love that they're letting him go deep and throw 120+ pitches. He's learning how to become an ace. As an aside, pitcher WAR really needs to be refined. A true ace guarantees between 10-15 wins a year, even on awful teams. Viciedo just has incredible tools. He may never put it together, but his swing and hand/wrist strength is incredible. When he makes contact, the sound off the bat is really unique. If Jones can ever consistently command his slider he will be special. Garcia is fun to watch. His approach is god awful right now, but he's incredibly gifted. He's one of the fastest big guys I've ever seen. I was floored when he hit that triple. I thought it was a double and when the camera panned he was already at 3rd.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) I was looking at another thread on another board from a couple years ago where a Phillies fan was defending the Phillies giving Howard 22 mil for 6 years, where everyone was saying the contract was an overpay and going to start looking awful a couple years into the deal. Adrian Gonzalez was brought up as a comparison and how much better a player he was than Howard, and how Howard's contract won't look that bad once Pujols and Fielder get their deals. Funny, now... ALL of those mega-contracts look bad now except Fielder. There are some truly terrible contracts, in otherworldly-bad territory right now, over 20 million for players who've been just average or are truly bad. For all the arguing done about Gonzalez in that thread he's been a pretty much above-average player nowhere near worth his deal. A-Rod... nuff said, this one was easy to call at the time too Pujols - nobody really understands this one Hamilton - could have been called at the time Teixeira - pretty much paying for the '09 World Series, really meh since then, coulda been called at the time too Sabathia - can be excused from this list since he's been great for most of his deal but is really expensive from here in the rest of it Crawford - not even remotely close to worth the money Compared to these guys Cabrera's deal looks downright cheap. It's like MLB GMs got NBA GM syndrome from like 2009 to 2013. You forgot Jayson Werth and Joe Mauer. Those deals are LOL bad. Verlander is about to be LOL bad too. Considering some of the deals the Tigers are stuck with, it's fitting they're from Detroit. They're going to need a bailout too.

Sounds like an ideal SS in the post steroid era to me. As long as he can get on base at a semi decent clip, the glove, arm and speed are valuable.
-
At least it's no an Affliction or Ed Hardy shirt.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) so why did they work him at SS during ST this year and occasionally during the season during infield practice? Because we've had no backup or emergency SS at times.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Ehhh the .750 OPS this year with the team playing like dogs*** compared to the .850 he put up last year with the team in contention till the very end kind of strongly disagrees with that idea. As do the multiple walk-off hits Rios had in a Sox uniform. Also his career numbers with RISP are almost exactly the same as with the bases empty. Sounds like a bulls*** statement.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Played better when he was under less pressure. Are there stats that actually prove this? I've always heard that Rios didn't care. Why would pressure affect somebody that doesn't care?

He and Alexei are the most underrated and under appreciated players of my lifetime.

I had the pleasure of replacing the screen on my GF's iPhone 4 the other day. I didn't even know they made screws that small. I ended up losing 1 screw, but it's fine. Probably shouldn't have been drinking during the process. Thanks YouTube.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) I think they just figured they had a window. If you remember, there was talk of KW getting fired the year before Hahn took over, but he stayed. I think they looked at whaty they had and said "well, we might as well let the 'KW' team play it out, because it could plausibly win, and if it doesn't we give Hahn a shot." So I think they were purposely not signing additional long-term contracts because they were looking forward to a clean slate for Rick. Well, it's my understanding that Hahn and KW were almost like co-GM's for years and the plan was always for Hahn to take the reigns. The contract situation was like a fail safe.
-
It's almost like Hahn and KW had a backup plan in case the team flopped. All the bad contracts expire at the same time.

Is Falling Skies any good? I have a few days off and was thinking about diving in.
-
Why do people compare Quintana and Buehrle? They're very different pitchers.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) A competent offense is easier to build than finding an ace. If the Sox cannot build a competent offense before this young starting staff has to be broken up due to cost, then the FO will be gone anyway. Agreed. The hardest thing to find in baseball is a true ace. A real, bonafide ace is insanely rare.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) I really wish people would just accept that they're not moving Beckham again. Why? I'd rather move Beckham, let one of the many prospects we have fill his role and find a real SS. I want a real glove at SS. It's beyond important for a team that's going to be driven by pitching.
