  1. 20 years ago 300 pounders didn't run 4.5/40's. Today's NFL players are so juiced its like they're no longer human. That game is destroying itself. Good riddance.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) I don't think there are multiple people out there excited about Wilkens. He's just a lot better option than Konerko. Exactly. It's not an endorsement of Wilkins. Konerko has just been that bad for about the last 700-800 AB's.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Two of those three things about Wilkins are right. The third isn't. Even a reduced Konerko (bad back and all) will give you more than Wilkins ever will at the major league level. There is a pretty solid chance Wilkins never even puts on the black and white. if the Sox had any value for him, they wouldn't have spent the last year bringing in other teams washed out minor league 1B's. Well, I guess we will agree to disagree. I don't think you've seen how much Konerko looks overmatched. I just don't see how running a 38 year old shell of a player helps a rebuilding team.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) Wilkins has as much chance of being on the next White Sox winning team as Paul Konerko does. He's young, cost controlled and still has more potential than a 38 year old singles hitter. I don't know how much you've watched this year, but PK looks pathetic on fastballs. It's almost sad to watch a slow guy shorten his swing so much to compensate. He just has no bat speed anymore.
  5. Why in the hell would you want Konerko over Wilkins? How does that help a rebuilding team? I love what Konerko did for us, but he's killing the team this year. Is there a less productive DH/clean up hitter in the league? This team is apathetic, boring and vanilla. It starts at the top. Konerko looks like the last place he wants to be is on a baseball diamond. This team needs some enthusiasm (along with better players . Konerko sulking on the bench isn't helping.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) I think we can make a safe assumption that taller people will have longer arms and greater reach. I don't know whether the difference would be significant, but I think suggesting otherwise is silly. Take basketball for instance - a guy that's 6'8 is going to have an easier time dunking than a guy who is 6'4. It doesn't mean a guy who is 6'4 can't dunk. There are big differences in basketball though. Wingspan is just as important as height.
  7. Logically, the argument shouldn't be about height, but rather standing reach. That doesn't really help Viciedo's case as he appears to have alligator arms.
  8. I'm pretty concerned about Phegley. I don't like his swing at all. The few HR's he's hit aren't really drives. He still hasn't drawn a walk.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) If Jason Giambi can hang on as a bench player, Konerko could hang on as a bench player if he wants to. I have no idea why he'd want to. Giambi's left handed, more patient and has more power. Konerko's become a slap hitter.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 12:50 AM) Why would he quit as his current age? If he feels his back can hold out, he would want that money wouldn't he? He'll be 38 next march 5. He hit .298 a year ago with 26 homers and 76 RBI. This year he's down to .241, 8 and 36 ribbies. but he has struck out 50 times in 333 at bats. I personally feel it'll be a health issue. He knows his body. The reporters have not even addressed him retiring yet, have they? I have a feeling when we see that story, we're going to hear Paulie wants to keep playing. Maybe he'll quit as he turns 38; maybe not. Until we hear from Paulie speaking to reporters, how can we assume anything? We don't know what Paul is thinking. Honestly, he's terrible now. He can't hit fastballs anymore and can't field. Konerko has no value. It was a fun ride, but he needs to hang them up. Nobody has hurt this team more than him this year. It's sad, but it's true.
  11. Remember when we traded Tyler Flowers for Tyler Flowers, made him wear a jersey that says Phegley and told him to stop taking walks?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) I've seen him 3 times now but I didn't see him before this season so I can't tell you if anything's changed. He still has some legit, serious power. He was in a slump early in the year and I could see what was wrong there, he was very in-between on his timing, which is one of those things that do happen when you move up to better pitching at AA - better fastballs and better offspeed stuff show up. I saw him last week and I couldn't figure out that he was in a slump. He looked quite good and hit at least 1 ball 380 to LF. Thanks.
  13. Has anybody watched a lot of Thompson this year? I wonder if the power and k's are down because they changed his swing.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I know he's hit some dingers but one of my least favorite Sox players of all time. Please take him, Texas, please. I'd love to see Thome take some more hacks. He could replace Dunn for the rest of this season. We're not winning anything anyway. Clear winner for "wtf post of the day."
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) I saw a commenter on the deadspin page point out that all of the suspended players are Latinos. Important, or no? Is Judaism big among Latinos?
  16. Sickles is saying utility is his floor, not his ceiling.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) He wasn't going to score there even if it dropped . He's a catcher and it was shallow enough for the SS to catch it. Maybe he's scores if he was off at the crack of the bat but he wasn't. He was rounding third. He would scored standing up. Austin Jackson throws like a girl and Peralta wouldn't have had a chance.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Flower's worked out well there . NOT I think he did the righ thing. It was the only way he was going to score on that.
  19. That seems like Konerko's first HR in months.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) 15 mil off the books is value...at least to me. In a weak FA class and a team that notoriously struggles to convince FA's to sign, I'd rather wait and get legit prospects. Dunn has real value now as power is at such a premium.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) On the bright side, ADA has correctable errors. You can't fix what is wrong with the likes of Paulie I don't know if that's true. He just has terrible instincts.
  22. I wouldn't move him unless we got some real value.
