  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) No, of course not. I think a more natural comparison would be to someone like Alex Rios, but I think Garcia shows a little more passion for the game. The Miguel Cabrera thing comes out because of the analysts who made the comparison the second he was brought up. When I read about Garcia, the first guy I thought about was Rios.
  2. Beckham's bat isn't nearly good enough to make up for his defense at SS, especially if the only way he can put the ball in play is by shortening his swing and robbing his power.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) I know, but I was just commeting on the criticism that they Sox made a competitor better. Who cares about this year and seeing Iglsesias at SS the rest of the decade doesn't scare me. They gave up a potentially good young hitter too. The Tigers need to win this year or next. Verlander is declining. VMart and Hunter are old. Peralta's juiced. Fielder and MCab are really fat.
  4. I'm not sure why anyone would want to build around Beckham and dump Viciedo. Viciedo has been a better player and has a much higher upside.
  5. I'd rather keep going after "toolsy" outfielders than those "real baseball players" like Erstad, Kotsay and Reed.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) I definitely get where you're coming from but I just don't think Iglesias is going to be able to hit at all, certainly not enough to be an everyday ss. Giving up your 2nd best prospect and allowing a potential playoff opponent to get a lot better as well just doesn't make too much sense. In fairness to Detroit, their line up is certainly good enough to hide a great defensive SS. They need to win now. Their window is closing. They got better where they needed to the most.
  7. I love when people get upset about prospects they've never actually seen before. It's like watching the NBA draft, but way better
  8. Isn't Olt a busted prospect with concussion problems? Yeah, sounds promising.
  9. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Also, I might be crazy and he has looked a lot better the past couple days, but unless Viciedo just murders the ball for the rest of the season, I see him being traded in the offseason. Or at the very least, not a projected starter (maybe a platoon DH/1B/LF type). He's up around .260 with his obp .50 above the BA. He's coming around. It looks like he's just trying to put the ball in play right now. Hopefully he'll continue to make more contact and start turning on more balls.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) Most everyone has money right now. It appeared to be a pretty big issue at the deadline.
  11. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) Different kind of player, less speed more power, IMHO. I think right now he is a 20HR / 80RBI guy. Tall, toolsy, good power, good speed, good arm. They sound pretty similar.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) And pitching will get you whatever. So will money. We suddenly have a lot.
  13. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:45 PM) LOL no. So Garcia was never the prospect Rios was? What does he lack?
  14. Between Sanchez, Simien, Johnson, Rondon, Beckham and Anderson we should be good in the middle IF and UT in a few years. Between Garcia, Thompson, Viciedo, Hawkins and Walker, we should have a decent OF and 4th OF. We have pitching. Now fill the holes with all the money we have. At least it's a plan.
  15. I have to think that Hahn took so long because he has deals he likes for Ramirez and Rios. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about them in the morning.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) Don't forget that Dayan Viciedo may still figure things out. Imagine that LF/RF combo if they get anywhere near their potential Viciedo's on his usual progression. Starting to figure out RH pitchers and showing more patience after repeating a level. Still love the kids potential.
  17. I can't listen to Hawk bulls*** me about this kid for the next 4 years. Please retire.
  18. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Igesias is an elite defender. Plays SS and 3B. Bat is really questionable despite this year. I'd much rather have an elite defender. I like.
