QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 02:38 AM) Anyone who hangs onto a game long past its prime is an idiot. I haven't paid full price for a game in about 4 years because of smart trading. I also traded in Bioshock 3 days after I bought it because I beat it and was done with it. It cost me no money to buy the game and I got $30 of credit for it. Its the smart thing to do. We've all beat the system for years. GameStop has a policy where you can buy a used game and return it, no questions asked, within 7 days. Skyrim was the only game that I actually bought in years. I don't play sports games. I buy, flip and t return. The GameStop dudes know I do it and we talk about it. Those days are done though. I have no problem paying for content. Hell, I buy all my music. I still pirate all my movies and don't care though. I find the whole groupthink aspect of the new consoles hilarious. For some reason gaming beings out the worst in people. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon and are like "PS4 totally owns dude." Shut up. You're 34. Look at the way Chilihead talks. He sounds like an 11 year old from Alabama "owning" people.

So you're saying we're not good? Yeah, no s***. High five.

Triple post FTW.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) You keep saying this, but we know very little about those with the next gen. Sony is introducing cross-game chat. That was the biggest difference between the two previously. Outside of that changing, we don't know the interface or how the new networks are going to run. Bottom line is the PS4 is cheaper and the hardware is virtually the same. That matters most to a lot of people. The used game policy probably shifts a few more people over, too, regardless of how little that may end up mattering in 3+ years. Sony is winning the PR battle and perception is reality. If I had enough money, I'd happily buy both eventually. If I'm forced to take one, it's easily the PS4. Maybe in a few years with a price drop and a bundle I buy an XBox One. If you weren't playing CoD, PSN was a barren wasteland of suck. It was like the Soviet Bloc of gaming. You trust Sony to change? Good luck. Microsoft has the history and the network and the backing of the NFL and HBO. I hope that DDR5 works out for you. Btw, I hate Microsofts exclusives. I don't play GoW or Halo. Not a fanboy.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Not paying the subscription buys me the top-of-the-line Roku in 18 months. Don't pretend that it isn't a huge knock on the XBOX that I have to pay for services that every other device like it doesn't charge for. Also, the Kinect is creepy as f***. Holy s*** man. The top of the line Roku? Jesus, man. You're smarter than that. 13 cents a day for an incredibly better service? The humanity!

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I bet it's more likely that Sony adopts policies like Microsoft, than the other way around. The article I linked from Edge talks about Sony already starting that process.
-
How am I a fanboy? As I've said, Microsoft has great ideas, but I wouldn't put it past them to f*** it up. I think it's ridiculous in 2013 to have a cable box, a Roku box, a console, s***ty apps on a Smart TV and a laptop HDMI'd into a TV when you can solve it all in 1 machine. XBox has HBO, NFL and probably the Premier League. XBox has a better network, service and interface. That's worth 13 cents a day to me. DDR5 is completely unnecessary. The Xbox games at E3 looked better. I am interested to see how Kinect integrates with everything. As I've said, I probably won't buy a console for a long time. I no longer game enough to justify it, but if I do, it'll be an Xbox because I want a $400-500 console do more than just play games. If I was just interested in gaming, I'd get a Steam Box.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) Sony told no half truths. You just still do not understand the concept of licensing. Sony does not own the other companies. Sony does not "own" the games. The developers do. So Sony is subject to the license of the developers. This is how it has always been. So Sony is being honest, you are just trying to unfairly impute the decision of the licensor on the licensee. So the only option Sony would have is to bar developers who limit, but that would ultimately hurt the player because they would completely lose access to the game. Thus it will be up to the players/game developers to reach a decision on what the market will bear. Quick recap: Sony is not Square Enix. So if Square Enix imposes new DRM its not Sony, its Square Enix. Thus there is no "half truth", unless Sony imposes DRM. Lol. The used game market is dead. That's all that matters. Sony is marketing themselves as the good guy, but they will have the same policies.
-
Expect both consoles to have similar DRM policies. There's been some chatter of developers jumping ship if Sony doesn't have DRM. It's the only way to keep the industry sustainable. What you basically have is Sony telling half-truths and Microsoft disregarding PR. Lets see the price points at launch. That's the biggest difference right now. Connecting your console to the Internet once a day doesn't seem like much of an obstacle in 2013.

I once sat through a 16 inning game against the Twins of all teams. The beer wore off, it was 1 AM and the Twins won. That was dreadful.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) Apparently there is some speculation that they are unbranded Beats or at the least borrowed from Beats manufacturing expertise, as HTC is the largest stakeholder in Beats. Some folks are fairly adamant that this or that headphone sounds better, but I'm incredibly pleased with how these sound for free. Yeah, but Beats sound like s***.

I'm not defending Flowers play and I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about him thus far. With that said, am I right in thinking some of the backlash is in who he's replacing?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) They can't have characters come back years later. They would lose the actor. You have to get Ramsay on screen and Theon is a great way to do it.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) I wonder if xbox will have a way to prevent letting your friends log in on your account and play games you paid for while youre not on your xbox since theyre saved to your account via cloud. If not that could be interesting. Probably not. Kinect uses facial recognition.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) Every EA sports game for the last 2-3 years. I don't play sports games, so that was never relevant to me. I can't think of any used games I've purchased and haven't been able to install updates or play multiplayer.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) Fact Taylor, Playstation can try to control how a 3rd party licenses their product, but ultimately that contract is between 3rd party and end user. So Sony theoretically could have said "We wont allow any publisher who restricts rights to make games for Playstation", but Im pretty sure no one expected that. Square Enix can do what it wants with Square Enix stuff. When you buy a Square Enix title, you are bound to the terms of the agreement with SE. Not sure why Sony would get involved... I understand that, but was confused about Sony's statement yesterday. I thought they were ensuring that there wouldn't be any restrictions and they worked that out with publishers. Apparently, I wasn't the only one as CVG has updated some articles about it today.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Sony cant control this unfortunately, short of not licensing the game for release. This stuff is present on current gen consoles too. What used games have online restrictions now? I'm really not sure.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) What is this "news" I don't think anything has changed on Sony's part from yesterday? Edit: If it's Sony saying they're leaving it up the publishers, that isn't new. Last night they said they wouldn't be imposing anything. Which means they're leaving it up to the publishers, and hopefully we as gamers make the publishers who decide to do it pay financially. They've made a couple of clarifications on that. First party users will have no restrictions, while 3rd party users won't be able to play used games online unless approved by the publisher. I can't imagine publishers want people buying their games used. It comes down to how many games you play online.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Sure is tough being an XBox fanboy nowadays, I'll give ya that. That's all you got? Just ignore the DRM news?
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) Uh, no. Keep up the good fight though You think developers will allow DRM? Sony backed down in a day. Do you still buy your cd's from Tower and listen to them on your Alpine pull-out too?
-
And just like that, DRM is already dead. LOL Sony.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Serious question, how old are you? It's like you don't remember all of the "innovative" and "futuristic" offerings Microsoft has made over the years. Windows Media Center and the 360 were going to take over the world! And then in reality it wasn't a very good system and we all moved on. You've yet to explain what is so innovative about Xbox One. Everything it has in terms of home entertainment capabilities my TV has, my ps3 has, and the ps4 WILL have. So please explain what i'm missing. The ability to link my Xbox One content to my Windows 8/surface tablet that I don't own nor have any desire to own? Again, see Windows Media Center. You're questioning my age and you can't understand the difference in possibilities between this and your Smart TV? Ok. Yes, this has always been Microsoft/Gate's vision and they're a step closer. Google did unveil their OS. It was garbage and nobody cared. I believe Microsoft still had a 90% market share of operating systems.
-
This isn't a console war. Console gaming is a niche market losing its footprint, especially considering Japan is quickly moving to mobile gaming. This is about home integration. Sony is a stepping stone. Yesterday was big in that while Microsoft was unveiling the future of media and home integration, Apple was unveiling a new desktop that will cost as much as a car and only be useful for high end video production and a mobile OS that is a copy of other operating systems. Windows 8, Surface, Xbox one... Look at the big picture.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) How are they more forward thinking? By doing what everyone else is doing? Microsoft COULD have killed it this generation with their decade-old goal of making the xbox an all-in-one entertainment hub, but they've yet to get anywhere close to that. And really they're dumb thinking that they could ever get there. Sony has the same capabilities. Hell, my Samsung TV has the same capabilities. HBOGO, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc are never, ever going to become exclusive to one company, so in that respect they're ALL the same. Same with renting/buying movies or tv shows, everyone does that too. If Microsoft had partnered with Comcast or DirecTV or something, THEN I would have jumped on the chance to have my gaming machine work in tandem with my cable box. But that's not happening this generation. So it comes down to one thing - gaming. And you've admitted Sony actually addressed that aspect of a GAMING console while Microsoft did not. The reasons to buy the PS4 (so far): (1) no online requirement, (2) no online membership (except to play multiplayer), (3) no used game blocking, (4) no forced Kinect/motion bulls***, (5) vastly better exclusives (personal preference, admittedly) and (6) $100 bucks cheaper. (and this is coming from a guy that owns both a ps3 and 360 and enjoyed/hated parts of both) We'll see what comes of this.
