QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 12:05 AM) PS4 says I don't have to pay to stream media. Roku says I don't have to pay to stream media. Smart TVs say I don't have to pay to do this. Why is it that only XBOX thinks it is appropriate for me to pay to use services I'm already paying somebody else to use? You most certainly do pay to stream the media. You don't pay for access to the network. If PSN is anything like the original, the 13 cents you pay per day for Xbox Live will be well worth it. Xbox Live's interface is great looking and intuitive. PSN is a jumbled wasteland of bad design. I wouldn't be surprised to see Xbox drop the price and launch first. They appear to be far more ready for launch. The problem is that they're making you pay for Kinect and people don't understand it and are scared of change.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:40 PM) Dunn's BABIP has been unsustainably low. Looks like his luck is starting to turn, as none of his other batted ball statistics really could explain why his BABIP was so low. Good for him. A victim of the shift?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:37 PM) I'd like some more elaboration on how much better of a media center XBOX One is compared to PS4. I find it to be a slap in my f***ing face that I not only have to pay Netflix to watch Netflix on my XBOX, but also XBOX. Likewise with Hulu, HBO Go, etc. I shouldn't have to pay to access these services. I could understand paying for online gaming, but not paying for online streaming services. Sometimes I want to play games online, sometimes I want to play Madden franchise mode by myself for a month. I like having some choice about that. Of course you should have to pay to stream media. It's not a crazy idea to pay a minimal fee to access a network either. Ideally, you'll have the option to access media through apps or integration with your cable provider. That's why I said its going to be interesting to see what type of arrangement Microsoft has with Sky.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:32 PM) And I hate that. Much like old people have always said, I prefer to actually TOUCH my possessions. I feel like if my system crashes I would lose all my s***. You're far more likely to scratch the physical media than lose the info in a crash. You can't recover a broken disc. Will you be able to download a game twice once purchasing the license in the event of hardware failure?

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) Yeah maybe when the norm in internet connection speeds are at 200 mb lines. I hate downloading games on the playstation store or xbox live because it takes so damn long and it takes up a lot of space on the hard drive. i still prefer getting a physical copy that i can play, finish, then trade in for value towards my next purchase, instead of a virtual copy that im stuck with forever that will collect virtual matrix dust. While I do agree with you to an extent, physical media is becoming a thing of the past. Look at the CD/DVD market. It's gotten to the point that a DVD collection is almost embarrassing.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) There is no argument to be had. It's not even a conversation. Sony absolutely bent microsoft over and butt-pumped them until they bled to death. Just because we're talking about consoles doesn't mean you should post like a 12 year old playing CoD.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:15 PM) Well, looks like we found the one guy who will be sleeping in a tent for the XboxOne release. TaylorStSox. I can't believe ANYONE would take the XboxOne over the Ps4 after this week's announcements. Hilarious, really. No. I said I won't be buying either, but would lean towards the Xbox because I'm not as interested in gaming as I used to be. Microsoft's vision is far more forward thinking. If you're going to be condencsending, at least try to provide some type of argument.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) You do know that playstation is like this too right? All the media options are there and more will be in the future just like with Xbox. Not to mention sony itself is a media brand and will be able to offer much more then Xbox because of that. If you think Sony's background makes them better equipped to create an all in one media center, then there really isn't much to discuss. The PS4 is aimed at gamers. That's always been their goal, hence the unnecessarily more robust hardware. Microsoft had better looking games, despite their stated goal to be orientated to more forms of entertainment. Sony's network and online interface pale in comparison. Outside of price, how did Sony look better? Also, IMO, worrying about used games and going to the box store to buy software will quickly become a thing of the past. It's no longer necessary.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:51 PM) If the Xbox outdoes the Ps4 with how things have been going publicity wise and the fact this time Sony is the cheaper system, well Sony might as well give up after this console. You mean keeping pace with Sony despite a console that breaks over and over again wasn't enough? Once Dad learns that he can watch football games and get rid of his cable box on the same machine his kid plays games on, it's over. Or, Mom can dim the lights and check Pintrest, while DVR'ing Girls.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:28 PM) It is funny how most Xbox fans are talking about switching consoles and really all the news has been negative Xbox/positive Ps4 and yet can still find someone so adament in claiming Xbox is the better system and going to be the console to have. I bought a 360 for the sole purpose majority of my friends had one, now every single one of them are either going Ps4 or no console at all and that is going to be the case with a lot of former 360 owners. I would never doubt Microsoft's ability to screw up a good idea. One thing I'd look for is how Microsoft interacts with the cable providers. Look what's going on with Sky.

QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) Sony is going to a pay to play online system, I dont see how it doesnt stack up to xboxs online service now Sony cant even protect your cc info.

We'll see, but I really think you guys are viewing this with a 2008 mindset.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) The fact that they are thinking much bigger is their downfall, bottom line these are gaming consoles and your market are gamers. No, they're not. They're all in one media centers. Apple TV that plays games. Gamers are a niche market compared to the market Microsoft is trying to create.
-
Think about this, Microsoft won the last generation despite having one of the biggest hardware failures ever. Everybody I know red-ringed at least once and people still continued to buy them.
-
QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) How so? They are going to be the exact same system only difference is you can still trade in games and its cheaper.. Microsofts network destroys Sony's, for one. The PS3 was a better machine , but Microsoft won because of the network. Microsoft is thinking much bigger than hardcore gamers.
-
Sony failed today IMO in everything outside of price. For a system that's supposed to be aimed at hardcore gamers, you'd think they'd be able to show a presentation that wasn't in-engine. The games looked worse. Watchdogs certainly didn't look next gen. Microsoft is ahead of them in the media center idea and they have the network to back it. I'm bored with gaming right now so I won't be buying either, but with integration options in the Xbox, I'd probably go that route. Regardless, you're probably better off going with the console that's more popular and I wouldn't bet on Sony.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) The question is how much velocity or movement might be affected should they go that route... For example, Jose Contreras, that arm slot/angle always made a huge difference between dominant and ineffective. Then you have the control/command issues and changing "muscle memory." I think Greg has brought this up a few times in reference to Nathan Jones and the way he slings the ball...but it doesn't seem the White Sox have ever really tried to change his mechanics (correct me if I'm wrong, minor league experts). One of the things that I always loved about Contreras was that he changed his arm slot constantly. When he was right, it made him incredible. It wasn't just the stuff. Hitters couldn't lock into a release point because the arm slot was all over the place. I seriously loved that guy. He and Pedro are possibly my 2 favorite pitchers of all time. Overall, I really think mechanics are incredibly overrated. The study employs a lot of people, but ultimately, IMO, it simply comes down to certain people having a body that can withstand the punishment of pitching. You refine mechanics to maximize talent and to have a repeatable delivery, but I don't think you can save a career.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Their recent draft record isn't bad at all. They've drafted and developed quality pitching. I just question the org's ability to develop hitting of any kind. I really like the Mitchell pick. I'll take two plus pitches all day. Obviously he has command issues and his change up doesn't sound like a very good pitch, but let him throw as a starter for a while and move him a la Jacob Petricka. You can almost always add the cutter to any Sox pitcher's repertoire. I'd like to see a guy like this kid learn to change speeds off the curve, alla Crain.

6-6 Do We Have a Game Today Thread?

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) Gimenez deserves to start ahead of Flowers. I hope the only reason he's not starting today is because he just caught sixteen innings yesterday. That said, he should be starting tomorrow and most of the time from now on until they get another catcher. Are you related to AJ? Possibly one of the biggest athlete man crushes I've ever seen. -

I've never seen an entire team guess on every pitch over such an extended period of time. It's bizarre.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Look at what Warren Buffett did with his children and grandchildren. You can't assume you know what Adam Dunn is thinking any more than I can. I don't care what Adam Dunn is doing with his money. It's irresponsible for a family man to walk away from $15M of guaranteed money for 6 months worth of work. Obviously I'm speaking in generalities. When somebody offers you that kind of money to suck at baseball, you take it.
