  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:29 PM) The replay showed him looking at the first base ump on the appeal You can't run to first when runners are coming home. He was backing off the plate, like he's supposed to.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) That ball almost went all the way into the dugout. He could have beat that out if he ran a few seconds after he checked it. He didn't know he was out. In that play, you're taught to back away from the plate because runners are coming home. You're not looking at first to take off. Jesus. Haters, man.
  3. I don't think Rios knew he was out. I didn't think he was.
  4. PK and Pujols should go on a tour called "Dudes that move they're 50."
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:11 PM) FWIW, the Angels' announcers said he did a good job just to get to the ball. From their perspective, at the time of the play....it was a double, but a play that would be made about 30-40% of the time, at least my interpretation. Sounds like the Angels have some smart announcers. He read that ball really well and got a great jump, considering his speed. It was a strange hit.
  6. I'm glad they ran Quintana back out there. He needs to learn how to get deep in games.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) Flowers seemingly can only homer but never hit with RISP in clutch situations. Uh, yeah. He has no plan at the plate. That first breaking ball was hung, but he was taking all the way. Then, he swings at a ball in the dirt. He's just out of sorts.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) No, I said it made it easier for him to get to since it didn't go as far as it appeared it would off the bat. It looked like he got jammed off the bat. I'll drop it, but dude, that was not an easy catch.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) The top spin would have made it easier for Viciedo to get to. It hit his glove and he didn't have to jump for it = should be caught If you think spin on a ball makes a catch easier for an OF, especially a LF, you haven't actually caught a ball in the OF.
  10. Pujols moves like he's 45. All those roids are catching up to him. That's a scary contract.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) It's a ball that should be caught by a MLB outfielder. My initial reaction on that play was that I was impressed he even read the ball well enough to be in the area. That ball had some crazy top spin. It was a hard catch to make.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) We have to have the franchise record already for most outfield dropped balls. You think that was an easy catch? I won't apologize for the defense, but that was a tough ball for a LF to play.
  13. The only thing that pisses me off is that you can't let Williams shut you down after seeing him for the second time.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:46 PM) And the awful defense strikes again. Ball has to be caught, but mercy, Quintana has no stamina this year. I'm surprised he was even in the vicinity of that ball. It came off the bat weird as hell. He got the glove on it, so he should have caught it, but that was far from an easy play. It wasn't a bad pitch either. It was a great piece of hitting.
  15. You'd think, at some point, somebody would tell Coop to get some sleep and lay off the beefs. Dude's looking awful these days.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) 20 feet from homer = stretch In fairness, I yelled, "get out!" He did hit it hard.
  17. That Pods vs Viciedo statement has to be a joke. That's coming from a huge Pods fan. Pods was the most important player on the Sox in the first half. He was the catalyst of that team. Viciedo has the potential to be a beast though. His natural gifts are extremely rare. Listen to the sound the ball makes off the bat. You can't teach that. You can lift all the weights you want. You can't make it happen. You're born with that ability. There are guys that can hit the ball farther, but I highly doubt anybody can hit the ball harder. When he's right, I'd wear a helmet if I was a 3rd baseman. No joke. I can't really think of a worse LF than Lee. He did every single thing wrong out there. He positioned himself poorly. He got atrocious reads and jumps on balls. He threw like a girl. He didn't really understand the game or his responsibilities.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) I do believe you are one of the few who believes this. I've seen nothing from him that would lead me to believe he has the range to play SS. The one thing holding him back from being an elite second baseman is his range.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) If we use that $31 million in savings PRODUCTIVELY, yes, you can definitely make the argument: $31 million + Gordon Beckham/Carlos Sanchez at SS + Matt Adams at 1B for the next 5-7 years >>> Ramirez with an albatross contract in 2014 or 2015 + Keppinger/Beckham at 2B + Viciedo/Dunn/???? at 1B. You're free to laugh at that, but we might not be laughing a year or two from now if we don't do something and just sit on all our declining assets until we can't get anything at all back in return for them. Or written another way, Beckham/Sanchez at SS, Chase Utley/Dan Uggla at 2B + Matt Adams at 1B for 5-7 years >>> STANDING PAT I don't care about money, Beckham can't play short. He's a statue at second.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) Are you ready for the Jeff Keppinger or Tyler Greene era? It was a loaded question. I was waiting for somebody to say Beckham so I could get a good laugh in before work.
