QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) Can't believe the Cubs will technically be ahead of us in the standings if things don't change tonight. Did we move to the NL or did they move to the AL? I have to start paying more attention to these things.

I'll take responsibility for being an incredible jinx for the Sox.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) The main thing that article showed to me is that Alexei should be traded if possible. Lot of money being spent on him the next few years with some serious offensive decline taking place. I still think Alexei for Matt Adams makes a lot of sense for both teams. I'm all for actively shopping anyone not named Sale, but would be reluctant to move Ramirez. He may be declining offensively, but his defense is still elite. When you rely on your pitching as much as the Sox, moving premier shortstops doesn't make much sense. We've been spoiled with defensive shortstops for the last decade. People forget how important they are. He saves a ton of hits.
-
His swing is still incredibly violent. If he's in pain, he's the toughest kid to ever put on a jersey because that swing is crippling for somebody with an oblique strain. To me he looks like he has more of a plan at the plate. Usually he reacts, see ball, hit ball. It looks like he's concentrating on a zone now.
-
Maybe he's just repeating his normal progression through every level of pro ball. He's grown more patient on every level after repeating a year.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 12, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) He turns 22 in July. He made 12 starts at High-A last year, then 15 starts at AA. Maybe he gets moved up to AAA mid-season. I thought he was older. It seems like I've been hearing about him forever.

Holmberg is still only in AA?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 12, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Something about this statement just doesn't ring true. Yea, my posting history is filled with threads where I think up a bunch of hypothetical trades and signings.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 12, 2013 -> 07:45 AM) The roster has very little upside/value. There are no ideas that aren't awful. Maybe though you have a few to share. Armchair GM was never a game that appealed to me.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2013 -> 12:06 AM) Free agents would pay in Montreal if it meant paying them more money than other teams. Adam Dunn initially wanted to play for the Cubs when he became a free agent, but after they weren't interested, he had no problem in acting like the White Sox was the team he wanted to play for all along. That's absolute bulls***. The Sox have tried to sign FA's and been successful few times. They've even tried to overpay. (Hunter) You guys look at every team as if they're equal, and they're not. One of the reason I liked KW was that he understood that he had to be unorthodox and aggressive to win here. It's not a coincidence that he's a Raiders fan. He had some Al Davis in him. Yeah, sometimes he took huge risks and struck out, but he always fielded a competitive team that was capable of making noise. He drafted low ceiling/high floor players to fill roster spots and tried to get impact players through trades. It didn't work out, but I get his philosophy and think it was a good one. All teams aren't created equal, and the Sox aren't an attractive organization. That's the reality. All things equal, free agents don't want to play on the south side.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2013 -> 11:54 PM) It's not so much keeping AJ or Buehrle, those were no brainers. It's misjudging the talent behind them, in the case of our current catching issues. Where are these elite catchers that were available? Flowers was a good prospect. You guys act like everything happens in a vacuum. I can't wait until we get rid of some contracts and want to spend some money and free agents just don't want to play here. What will you guys cry about then? Heads up, free agents have never wanted to play for the second team in the second city.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ May 11, 2013 -> 10:46 PM) Will look into it, thought there were mixed reviews of the surface? How about Lenovo U310 touch? I like. If I was you, I would buy a Yoga or a Surface. If your computer is just a media machine, a tablet that runs a real OS is where it's at. The Yoga is tits. It's been discussed in this thread already, but I'm a big proponent of an all-in-one machine.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 11, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) When Pierzynski signed with the Rangers, my Dad was extremely upset. I told him we need to give Flowers a chance. He responded with "Are you kidding, we are stuck with another Ron Karkovice" Moral of the story here is, my old man knows his baseball and I was wrong. Flowers is indeed crap. He would make a decent backup but he has proven to us that he is not a good every day catcher. His defense is well below average and he can't hit water if he jumped out of a boat. The fact that we have two guys on our starting lineup hitting below .200 is an absolute joke! This team's current standing is a reflection of Hahn pretty much sitting on his hands this past winter. So, if we signed AJ, we would be overpaying a veteran, on a bad team, who also happens to be on the DL. Sweet.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 11, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) People throw around the word "competitive" as if that's the goal. Minnimum goal should be what Flavum mentioned 90 wins. I don't think many people are against tearing it all down. The problem is that your ideas are awful.

I was one of his biggest proponents and I'm completely disappointed. With that said, he needs more time. This team is so unbelievably bad right now that I can't judge anybody. PK has been abysmal. Keppinger makes me yearn for Getz. It's just a s*** show all over the place. Viciedo and Rios are the only 2 guys that look like they've ever seen a baseball. It's f***ing bizarre.

QUOTE (onedude @ May 10, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) Haven't read the books, but I'm aware of some of the families and stuff, might know who you're talking about. Something I caught last episode: The bastard torturer had a horn to wake Theon up...I'm assuming that was the guy with the horn in the 2nd season that was pissing Theon off outside of Winterfell. Funny how Theon was going to go medieval on the guy, only for him to be the guy torturing him. I can't believe you picked up on that. Well done. "I'll kill that horn blowing c*** before I die." (paraphrasing)

Sox setting up for the end of the Konerko era?

Re: white flag trade That's not an issue. This team is already bad. They're not getting much worse. There aren't any bankable stars that fans would even consider to be white flag worthy. You think there will be an uproar if they move Rios? Nobody came to the park to see PK when he was good. I'd hang on to Peavy and keep the rotation strong. I'd actively try to move everybody else. They should probably capitalize on the Cubs rebuilding too. At least there isn't another show in town. -
Joffery isn't sexual at all. He's a sadist.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 11:16 PM) I plead guilty since I'm stuck in the office all day when I'm not teaching here in China, haha. That's my excuse. I'll go back to reading "Pound Foolish," haha. And, if you haven't read it before and survived the 1980's, make sure to read READY PLAYER ONE, it's awesome. Living in China is an excellent excuse. I'll give you that. -

Some of you guys have an unbelievable amount of free time on your hands. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Nate Jones should be one of the first to go. Tired of these power bullpens the Sox have put together year after year that underachieve their "stuff." Hasn't the pen been very good for years?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Dunn has been fine defensively at 1B since he's been on the Sox. Dunn's actually decent at 1st. Sometimes I wonder if posters even watch the games or if they're too busy writing complaint posts. -

Bad Reed worries too much about the gun and over throws everything. Good Reed takes something off and throws strikes.
