  1. Regardless of his motivations, his entire family are the early frontrunners for the '13 Darwin Awards.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Because he had no idea how big this story would be. Whatever you think happened, that part is true. It wouldn't have been a story if she didn't die. The story made news because he lost 2 loved ones so close to one another.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:13 PM) What does breaking up with her solve? Killing her off makes sure no asked who your girlfriend is. Are you serious? Killing her off made it a huge story. Otherwise, nobody would have cared. Nobody cares who these kids are dating. I can understand him wanting to hide his sexuality. The easiest way is to not discuss it. Why would he volunteer any information?
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) A lot easier to keep someone a secret if they are dead I guess. Not when you piggyback it on your Grandma's death for more sympathy. If that was the case, he's the stupidest student at ND. How many hundreds of gay ND football players have successfully avoided outing themselves without elaborate lies?
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) You're not alone: http://techcrunch.com/2013/01/16/analyst-5...ncoming-up-136/ You think Y2HH will ever tell me he was wrong? What are the chances?
  6. If it was all to cover up his sexuality, why say that she died? That makes no sense. Why wouldn't he say that they broke up? It just doesn't seem logical.
  7. The "feel" of a phone really comes down to what you're tactilely accustomed to. My One X feels sturdy and slick to me. My GF's iPhone5 feels tiny and almost like a toy. As we discussed earlier, apparently my desires in a phone are unique. I want a phone to be a tablet. If I ever bought an actual tablet, I want it to be a small computer. I don't want a tablet that runs a phone OS. I want a small computer that runs an actual computer OS, with computer specs.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Django has no chance and it's no surprise Tarantino didn't get a look as Best Director. Waltz should get Supporting Actor and QT has a shot at original screenplay. In the end, though, the Academy hates the type of s*** that QT makes. This isn't so much something the Academy does but most establishment awards organizations around the world. The guy who clearly has a massive amount of directorial and artistic talent and has the following to show for it but doesn't make "serious" films...no Best Picture, no Best Director for you. Pulp Fiction is the only thing he's done that is worthy.
  9. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) It's pretty sad that as Sox fans, these are the names we're supposed to get excited about. Dodgers fan: Hey! We signed Greinke! Angels fan: So what? We got Hamilton. Bluejays fan: We traded for Josh Johnson, Buehrle, Jose Reyes and traded for RA Dickey White Sox fan: We re-signed Peavy, and signed Keppinger, Josh Bell, Brian Anderson, Trancoso, Gartrell, etc., Yep...(cricket sounds) I had no idea you felt this way. You should repeat it 7 times today.
  10. For the Sox to draw well, they really need some marketable stars. Last year we were winning, but the team was vanilla as can be. The Sox desperately need Hawkins or Thompson to break out.
  11. If he's cheap, it's low risk/high reward. f*** it.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) Let's hope they don't get hacked. Developers are losing millions to the used game market. With growing development costs, the incentive to create truly unique, epic game experiences is shrinking. Companies are simply afraid to take big risks, look at how many games have become serialized and how some series have even become annualized. If something sells the first go around, the big companies will pump out sequel after sequel with minimal improvement, look at the Assassin's Creed series after AC II. Sure, we have independent studios making some great stuff and I'm all for that. But I also want to play the next Bioshock, the next Dishonered, the next truly original, epic game with big-time production values. This isn't the music industry, vidieo game companies don't have the equivalent of concerts to fall back on. They need huge game sales to continue making new AAA games. Ending used game sales, at least for next-gen systems, would be a huge step in the right direction. I can't dispute any of this. Good post. I shouldn't mix video games up with other media like film and music. With the cost of producing video games, the price is far more justified.
  13. Band of Brothers was amazing. The Pacific was awful. I have HBO for GOT and Boardwalk Empire. The only other time I watch it is for boxing. I'm basically paying $120 a year for 2 shows. f*** that. I'm getting rid of HBO and I'm off to torrent land.
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) Yes and no. Obviously there are markets for bigger AND smaller screens, and business wise, neither market should be ignored so long as it produces profit. The difference is, the sub 5" market is the bigger market, by far, especially in the states. The 5"+ market is bigger in China...but be that as it may, screen sizes will not remain static for any foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean there isn't a happy medium. Believe me when I say you are rare. The plus 5" phones have sold -- combined -- less than 10 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, Apples 4" iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3 at 4.8" have sold a combined near ONE HUNDRED MILLION units...in the US alone. Worldwide they are probably orders higher than this. The differences aren't minor...they're major. And this is discounting Apple and Samsung's previous models when having this discussion, this is merely US numbers of S3's and i5's. I'm not saying there isn't a combined market that you're looking for...it exists, but it's a niche market at best. At least for now it is, that doesn't mean it won't become a more major market in the future. But right now, let's face it...even with a big screen a tablet is NOT a desktop replacement, and an oversized wanna be tablet phone like the Note/Note 2 sure as hell isn't. At lest...not yet. For a practical real world example, neither could replace my desktop for my work right now...nor will they for the foreseeable future. Forgive me, but sending emails and browsing the web is not a real Internet job...it's marketing job...and for that market, it may be adequate...but for the rest of the IT industry, it's not an acceptable alternative. It's not even close. Well, of course the 5+ market is smaller. It's new and there aren't as many options. Bringing up Apple phones is irrelevant. They don't offer a 5+ phone and most Apple enthusiasts will buy what Apple tells them.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Most people are not in this market, you're one of the very rare that is. I, on the opposite end from you, do NOT want a tablet that makes phone calls, it's too obnoxious, big, and bulky. They also look absurd when held up to your ear. It's almost as obnoxious as the bluetooth morons that walk around with BT earpieces in their ear even when they're not in use. That bugs the s*** out of me. All phone makers are increasing their screen sizes, correct? Apparently, people do want all in one devices. People do want a large browser that makes calls. If they didn't, screen sizes would remain static, no? Maybe I'm not so rare. If Apple started telling people they need bigger phones, soccer mom's would be talking on tablets. They don't because they want you to buy more than one device. The Note seems to be a step in the direction of having an all in one device. Maybe there is a market.
  16. I have an HTC One X. While I love it, I wish I would have went with the Note 2. I want a tablet that makes phone calls, not 2 devices. I use my phone as a media device and web browser, on the go.
  17. Re: Used game market - I'm a cheap/poor bastard. I've flipped about 20 games over the last 3 years and bought about 3. I use the Gamestop policy of returning games in 7 days. Almost all campaigns are beatable in a week. The exceptions were Skyrim and the 2 Borderlands. This week, I bought the first Bioshock, had another run through to get an achievement (No harvesting Little Sisters) and returned it. If the next-Gen consoles use key codes, they'll be hacked. I'm not worried about it. We live in a world of free software. Honestly, I don't feel guilty either.
  18. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) love one of the retarded WSI posts about the AJ ad: http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbullet...p;postcount=161 i don't think he ever considered himself a "true chicagoan" as he lives where he grew up still, AND really? you dont get the fact that "chi-town" is in quotation marks? he's doing it on purpose, you f***ing idiot! same way when he said "my kinda town"..... sometimes i wonder where they get their posters. there's 1 page in that appreciation thread about grammar. f***ing clownshoes over there.... The dude was obviously being sarcastic. It's called a joke. Relax. That was a nice gesture by AJ, but he's still a giant asshole.
  19. At some point, you just have to try to get the 9 best players on the field that you can, balance be damned.
  20. Now we're blaming arguably the best SS in baseball for AJ's girlyman arm?
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) Haven't changed my tone at all. I will defend AJ vs. all the haters. I believe he will be missed far more than his numbers would indicate. I understand not paying a 36 year old catcher a ton of money. If it were my decision, I would have brought him back on a one year if he would have taken it. Maybe they have other moves in mind. I do think most of the Tyler Flowers love will be gone this time next year. I'd be willing to bet you a 6 pack of your favorite beer that Flowers out-produces AJ next year.
  22. I already feel bad for the prospect who has to replace Konerko.
  23. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) You won't give that one up will you? When you factor in years on the team and games played AJ outperformed Karkovice in the sanctified and hallowed WAR category. I liked Karkovice a lot. He was a defensive marvel behind the plate. I don't think AJ was terrible defensively, just not very good. If you could get have someone with AJ's hitting and the Officer's defensive prowess that would be a helluva catcher. Flowers is a definite upgrade over AJ behind the plate, but not on the level of Karkovice. Or Fisk and Lollar for that matter. He's also another all or nothing strike out machine that has given me no indication whatsoever that he can hit well enough to be worth it. No, I won't. Not when a player is vastly overrated despite popular opinion. Especially when the numbers tell a different story. For a catcher, I value defense first. In his best years, AJ was mediocre behind the plate. He framed pitches well, created a nice target and called a good game. Over the last few years, he's been horrid. Even this year, despite the huge rise in numbers, I felt that he was a liability more often than not. He wasn't only awful defensively, his pitch calling was suspect and he showed up at least 3 players during a game. That's just unacceptable, imo.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) Who exactly called AJ "worthless"? I've never called him worthless, just overrated and unlikable. I rooted for him, as I did all White Sox that were assholes.
  25. Btw, I'll take a plus defensive catcher with pop over a poor defender who hits for average all day, everyday.
