  1. It's all my fault. If I hadn't bragged about the Sox excellent record of keeping pitchers healthy, none of this would have happened.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Same thing happened to Brian Anderson. Waived by BOS. And to think, 6 months ago, he was the most inquired about member of our organization. How times changed so quickly for the Stealth Elf. Link? Where do you guys come up with this stuff?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Yes. 93-94 fastball, with change in the 79-81 range. He had good velocity, but I wouldn't call it "blazing." He threw harder than Danks but not by much.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) Didn't Santana combine that amazing change with a blazing heater, to the tune of about a 15mph difference? No.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) He's not a power pitcher. And Garland was a sinkerballer. They pitch to contact. That's the point of the sinker. Ummm does power sinker ring a bell? That was Garland's best pitch. Apparently you associate power with velocity which is a fallacy. If velocity is all you're looking for, Danks tops out at 94 which would put him in the top 20ish% of LH starters.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) But he hardly Ks anyone, so regardless of him wanting to be a power pitcher...he's not. He also overpowers nobody...so what exactly are you talking about here? Peavy WAS a power pitcher, and he's still more of a power pitcher than Danks ever will be. Sale is a power pitcher. Danks is not, regardless of what he tries to be. That shows he's not pitching to his strengths, if anything. That's also saying he believes he's a power pitcher like you do...and you are the first person I've ever known to call him that. His historic stat line also says otherwise. Far less Ks than innings pitched, usually as many or more hits as innings pitched. That != power pitcher. It means he's pitching to contact, if anything. The argument isn't about how you think he'd be most effective, it's about what he is, power pitcher. Another Sox power pitcher who didn't throw hard, Garland.
  7. If Cooper says go get Voquez I'd be willing to part with a young arm. Key word "a."
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) First, yes he is. What he's NOT is a power pitcher...I think you are absolutely wrong on this in every regard. People come up with opinions all of the time, and you don't have to agree with them. But, to elaborate, I think he's been pegged to be a #1 by this organization...and at worst a #2...and most people viewed him as an upcoming #1/#2 at worst. NOT a #3, or a #4. So if he becomes a #3, or a #4, IMO, he's fallen short of expectations. Can he be a serviceable #3/#4...yes. Only I've already said that a number of times. Doesn't pitch to contact + tries to K everyone + attempts to overpower bats = power pitcher. There's nothing finesse about Danks approach.
  9. Danks is not a finesse pitcher. There's a lot more than velocity involved in being a power pitcher. Oh, and a number 3 pitcher with his background doesn't "suck." Where do people come up with this s***?
  10. I was given Scout seats once. Where does that put me? The craziest thing about it was that my friend and I were the only people tipping. Rich assholes.
  11. I'm thinking of ways for us 500 level scumbags to gentrify the Cell.
  12. Baseball's unique in that "effort" is marginalized. Trying too hard can have detrimental effect. Hitters think too much, they press and it shows at the plate. Rios and Beckham are a good example. Rios was pressing too much last year. His swing lost fluidity, became mechanical and it robbed him of all power. He did a good job making contact, but couldn't drive the ball. That's a sign of trying too hard IMO. Cue the Rios is a bum who doesn't care crowd.
  13. I was in the market for a tablet to have on the go, but the Ipad doesn't really have the bang for the buck for me. I'm probably going to wait and see how the Windows tablet does before making a purchase. Also, my home computer is dated and slow (i3/2GB). I'm just going to turn this into a torrent machine. So, I'm looking for a laptop that's small enough to be a mobile workstation and powerful enough to replace my home computer, 2 birds with one stone. Price point - $500 Specs - i5 or better; 4GB ram expandable to 8 Weight - 3 lb. area (something to bike around with all day on my back) Size - 10" area A VGA out with be a big bonus for the home. Any suggestions? Does something like this exist? I wouldn't be opposed to building it either. Windows, obviously.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 07:23 AM) Caulfield, I quit reading at "Nate Jones...fastball...lack of movement" He has extremely good 2 seam run on his fastball. Everything that guy throw is nasty. He, like other pitchers, still must locate and change speeds though. Agreed. Jones might even have too much movement on everything he throws. It makes his pitches hard to control and repeat. I say this every year at the deadline. Nobody here knows the value of any player. Every year people act shocked when a player is traded for far less than the expert message boards posters have deemed their value, or vice versa.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) I'd rather see us eat a bunch of money to get a player like Buehrle instead of creating a big hole in our offense to bring in another top pitcher. Man, that Buehrle contract is really bad. It's hard to imagine paying him $19 Mil when he's 37.
  16. Just got rid of cable. You can't listen to the Sox games on the Score online?
  17. I finished the first season of Breaking Bad last night. It's a good show, but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Season 2 must pick it up, right?
  18. I'd pass on Liriano. I definitely wouldn't give any value for him. He's just far too inconsistent for a playoff race. I'd probably stand pat. This team has some mojo and I really like the arms in the bullpen. Hopefully, a healthy Crain is the only addition.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) People who give a s*** how a prospect develops and how he projects the Major Leagues, mostly. He's a 20 year old in AA holding his own. He's not a superstar but all signs point to him being, at minimum, a middle of the rotation starter and possibly as high as a #2. And, if you had read, you would see that he hasn't really had that good of a year in AA, but he's 20 years old so it's forgiven. There aren't many guys who are 20 years old pitching in AA. Merely stating that the Jackson-Hudson trade doesn't begin and end with those two. I have no problem with Kenny Williams or the Chicago White Sox, so if you were trying to start a flame war instigating such, you have failed. The Kevin Youkilis move is one of the best he's made in several years, even if it was a no-brainer. Trying to start a flame war? Stop being so melodramatic. Why even bring up a kid that was traded in 2010 and still hasn't had success outside of A ball?
  20. I went with Rios as well. He's playing like a man possessed. I think the majority of his problems stem from confidence. Hopefully, he'll keep his swagger.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 11:07 AM) I'll give you Rios. Picking up Griffey's corpse to play center wasn't a quality move and did nothing to get us to the playoffs that year. As for Manny, it was an idea, but it was all about getting attention. Any scout worth half his salary would have told the Sox Manny had nothing left. Despite Manny putting up good numbers that year prior to coming over? He was done? Wasn't his OPS over. 800? Rios was a gamble worth taking. 5 tool players are a rarity. If he plays to his capability, his contract is fair to good. Griffey? Meh.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) To be fair, Holmberg has been quite good overall this year. He's hit a rough patch at AA but he's 20 years old. I think he's forgiven. He's had a good year in AA? To be fair? Seriously? Who gives a s*** what he does in AA?
  23. Finally got around to downloading the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad. Hopefully, I'll have time to get started on them tonight.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) I think he might be our best player right now. Overall, no question. Second or third best hitter. Best defender. Second best baserunner. Been clutch all year.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) Part of the reason he's streaky is...playing through injuries Even if there was a way to prove your theory, it wouldn't matter. Streaky is streaky.
