Something has to be done to improve the rotation
TaylorStSox replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) Not good stuff if it's really just one effective pitch. That includes having an electric, moving fastball you can command. Good curveballs. That's basically it. But out of the stretch, both of them are getting hammered, and Gavin's especially not driving off the mound and getting full extension, which is causing his pitches to elevate and lose speed and movement. Both of them have good FB's with movement. It seems like everybody is sitting dead red on them. They can't get a FB over the plate, not because it's a ball, it's a bomb. -
As I've told you guys before, they're called "hangover line ups." They play every day for more than half the year. They're going to need a day off. They gotta go out and get shadwracked too!

Gotta wonder if Floyd and/or Humber are tipping their pitches. Both have had their good stuff recently, and their FB's are getting jacked. -
I understand both sides of the argument and don't envy KW. I'd like to dump some of those contracts, but Peavy is the only with enough value to acquire a legit prospect or 2. The problem with dumping those guys is that replacements aren't available. So, you dump some money and reinvest it into younger players. However, herein lies the catch, 35th street isn't viewed as a destination for FA's. I'm 33 and we've landed 3 big FA's in my lifetime. They've lost out on a number more. The GM position for the Sox is a tough one. You can't buy a team. You have to get creative, which is one reason KW's moves have been so hit or miss. This probably the reason he's so adamant about not burning other gm's. He's needs a working relationship with them. The good thing is that there's still time. We have about 45 days til the deadline. The picture should be more clear then.

GT: Chicago White Sox @ LA Dodgers

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) Uribe gets a double. I cringe when he comes to bat because he can put ac harge into that ball. I always liked Juan as a White Sox player. Great glove man wherever you put him in the infield but a bit unpredicatable at the plate I wonder what the numbers say about Uribe. I remember him being really clutch. I wonder if the numbers would back my memory. Didn't he have the highest success rate of bringing in runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs a couple times? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 04:17 PM) Flowers strikes out looking so freaking much. I wish he'd just swing hard 3 times and hopes he hits it. Just a bad player, yet some would rather give him the starting spot and not bring back AJ. I like the way he calls a game. He's big and athletic and blocks a lot of balls. He has a good arm. He's done a lot of work to overcome his reputation of being a poor defender. Offensively, he's all or nothing. I'm generally not a big fan of that kind of hitter, but he is a catcher. Bad player's a huge overstatement. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) That's not what I'm saying. I think losing Buerhle was the final straw for many people with season tickets as far as renewal and hurt pre season sales. Yeah, I just skimmed through your post and misunderstood. The season ticket holders left because we weren't winning and they were sick of the soap opera, that's my guess.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) Who said he would, but why not throw out your best shot? I actually think Buerhle leaving was the last straw for many season ticket accounts. Obviously, attendance has been trending down for quite some time, but I'd bet if Buerhle stayed, the Sox attendance would be up at least 1000 a game. 81000 x $50 a very conservate number for ticket, parking, concession and souvenier is still $4 million a year. Multiply that by 4 years and what they offered Soler plus just a reasonable estimate what the collateral damage was not bringing back Buerhle was, and you're pretty close. Plus, with Peavy coming off the books, the future money shouldn't be prohibitive. Also, it would have freed KW to trade either Danks or Floyd last winter, even if he was serious about competing in 2012. Maybe the plan all along was to either get someone to overpay for Danks or sign him. If Sox fans have a problem with Danks getting extended, they will have a problem with just about anything. I can't believe 1000 people would come just to see Mark Buehrle.

What's the latest on the Danks injury?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) Wow, that first example is like the Ken Caminiti of Pit Bulls It's an American Bully, which is really just code for mutt. I'd imagine there's some actual APBT in there along with English Bulldog and god knows what else. Actual APBT's should be lean dogs ranging from 25-50 pounds. Occasionally, you'll see a real one break 60 lbs, but they're freaks. Their body types should look more whippet than bulldog. If you think about it, they were originally sporting dogs. They're supposed to be built like boxers or MMA fighters, not body builders.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Ok, so to make a point for Joe's sake...any dog breed that explodes in popularity inevitably suffers bad breeding which hurts the breed in the long run. Golden Retrievers have definitely been one of those breeds. A certain breed gets popular, usually to some exposure in the newspaper, in a radio show or a television show, or maybe because it won Best in Show at the Westminster. Demand rises. Supply is outpaced, and prices rise. People step in to capitalize on the high prices, often people who don't know or care what they are doing. They then hurt the breed standard and the general temperament of the dogs by breeding unworthy specimens and selling their offspring. This has happened over the years with Retrievers of all types, German Shepherds (Rin Tin Tin), Dalmatians, Great Danes, German Shorthaired Pointers, Pit Bulls, Chihuahuas, etc. Good post. GSD's are pretty much ruined. It's hard and expensive to get one who's conformation isn't so poor it hurts to look at. Pit bulls aren't much better off. People don't even know what a pit bull is. There are various mutts sold as "pit bulls" to cash in on the craze. The sad part is that "pit bull" has become a generic umbrella term for any bully type of dog. If a dogo bites a person, the pit bull is blamed because people don't know what they really look like. Not a Pit Bull Actual American Pit Bull Terrier

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 01:11 AM) Glad you approve. I was worried. Chuck Garfien seems like a huge Sox fan. I like that guy. Paul Sullivan is a nerd, hater. I'd probably try to get him laid.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 01:06 AM) Then maybe type it the correct way and you wont have this issue. What did you think was going to happen when trying to argue with me? Next time dont if you have nothing better to add then some dumb statements in quotes. Now that's how you articulate an argument!
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:58 AM) I didnt realize you were part of the sox organization reading > you Another great intrawebz argument. "If you call your team "we," you think think you're part of the team." Jesus, dude, you're dry. Ever since I came back to the site, you've been riding my dick hard. Why? We can get along, friend. We're both Sox fans, right? Relaxy, killer. I'll except you at some point.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:50 AM) Writing derp derp after that is much worse(and much more immature but that was expected from you). Its a pretty simple point. If none of that matters then why do coaches do it? Why did my ROTC commanding officer do it? For their personal enjoyment? It matters. Which is why no one in that organization would dare call AJ lazy. Dare? Ok. The Sox deal with AJ because he has value. He's durable. He has a great LH swing. They stuck with him when he was one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball, for years. He has value. That doesn't mean I can't call him lazy. Dude, he plays like he rolled his ankle, after every play. Seriously though, we won't agree. Let's just end it. I see why some of you guys hate the media. I watched the "encore" segment of Chicago Tribune Live, and those guys are dicks. "Eh, the Sox aren't good." "Eh, Reinsodorf's cheap." Jesus, what a bunch of hacks. I don't watch sports media, ever, so that was hilarious.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:40 AM) Why dont you tell the coaches that none of that matters. Im sure they would love to hear that. I should have told my commanding officer in ROTC that showing up on time and being in shape doesnt matter. This might be the dumbest counterpoint in the history of the internet. "If you're so smart, why don't you do it?" Derp derp derp.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:28 AM) I really like how you switched it to he plays lazy now. Not that he is lazy. I didn't switch the argument. Playing lazy is the only lazy that matters. It doesn't matter when you show up. It's the way you play on the field. AJ does lazy s*** all the time. It's the Iverson argument, but reverse. Iverson might be the last person to show up. He might skip practice. It doesn't matter because he played the hardest in the actual game. AJ doesn't play the hardest. He never has.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) Ive talked with people close to the White Sox. You may watch every game but that does damn well not mean you know AJ's work ethic. Its clear as day that you dont. He might be the first guy there everyday. It doesn't matter. He plays lazy. He refuses to even try to block some pitches. He refuses to run out ground balls and pop ups, he'd rather throw his bat. I don't care if you slam a 22 oz before every AB, as long as you play the game right.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:09 AM) Your arguing with a guy who obviously has no idea what AJ's work habits are. I'm a guy who watches damn near every game and goes to a lot. AJ runs the basepaths like an 80 year old, that's lazy. That was a tough loss. It was one those games that you win and it propels you to more wins. Win the series and it doesn't matter.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:05 AM) AJ hustles more than the average MLB player, absolutely for sure. I'd venture to say that his career doesn't get this far if he hadn't had a reputation for hustling and being in the right place at the right time. His defense lately has been getting lazy though. I have to wonder if it is because he gets far less rest than your average MLB catcher His career has gotten this far because he's durable and has a sweet looking LH swing. He's a decent offensive player. Until this year, his D has been awful and, yes, he's lazy. If throwing your bat means you try hard, then he's not lazy. Throwing your bat doesn't mean s***. Run it out! He never does.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) You hate AJ? Hard to hate AJ as a Sox fan. I do think that him and Konerko have been extremely lackadaisical of late I've hated him ever since he threw the elbow at Frank at the Metrodome. I don't like him so it forces me to be way more objective. I'm happy when he does well, it helps the Sox, but he's a lazy, s*** talking SOB.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 12:01 AM) That's a very far leap to make Have you ever seen another MLB level player who refuses to run out pop ups more than him? He doesn't run s*** out. He never has.
-
People call Rios lazy. He's not lazy, he's dumb. There's a huge difference. AJ's not dumb, he's just f***ing lazy.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 11:59 PM) He didn't know where the ball was, how can you blame him? AJ might be the laziest ballplayer I've ever seen. I mean that. God, I hate him.
-
He also shouldn't be pitching right now. This is a big game.
