  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) I hate this one...I always used to tip on a delivery, then everyone instituted "Delivery fees". Now I feel guilty if I don't tip, but I also feel like I'm already playing the **** tip because of the mandatory delivery fee. What's the difference between a delivery driver and a waiter? What's the delivery fee, $3? That's bush league on your part.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) This is the second wrapper we've seen on the Sox mound this week. I see what you did here.
  3. I'd trade everybody, Komerko, AJ, Thornton, Crain, Peavy etc. I still don't think we're a good team. We're probably "dangerously" good though. The Sox are just good enough that trading the veterans will cause anther white flag situation. Too many people will cry if the Sox do the right thing. IMO, the white flag trades were the right move then and it would be the right move now.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 26, 2012 -> 07:31 AM) Every big KW move...Jackson, Swisher (both deals), Dunn, Peavy and Rios hasn't worked out, at least to the point where their underperformances and payroll numbers forced us to cut about $25 million (Buehrle, Quentin, Santos) from the payroll. So yeah, we've been able to cover up on the cheap with moves like DeAza, Humber...Quintana would be another example...but we've still got gaping holes (future-wise) at 3B and catcher. All things considered, with the infusion of Reed, Nathan Jones and Santiago, our bullpen has been about as good as could be expected, but is still more talked about in terms of "potential" rather than all the pieces working together like in 2005. The closer we get to first place, the more we get away from "development/rebuilding" and the more dangerous our situation becomes, in the sense that being mired in the 75-85 win range is like death. Those numbers are going to give you low attendance (or falling attendance on a cyclical downtrend) and no sure-fire talent in the first round of the draft. Maybe somehow between Quintana, Axelrod, Zach Stewart, Castro, Hernandez, Doyle, Molina, Hernandez and Hector Santiago, we can fill out the bullpen, the final two rotation spots in 2013 AND survive the losses of Floyd, Thornton and Crain, as those are the only places we could conceivably cut without destroying our chances of competing this year. We definitely have more pitching talent in our system than at the same point in 2011...and Mitchell has made himself into a legitimate prospect again, so baby steps. I really don't think there's a gaping hole at catcher. Flowers has turned into a pretty good defender and I actually prefer the way he calls a game. I think he can give you 240/350 with 15-20 homers. That'll work for me.
  5. Defensive metrics are stupid. If you tell me Ramirez and Rios are bad defenders. I'm probably going to laugh at you while I watch you wipe my snot off of your chest.
  6. If people don't want to tip, fine. Just double the prices so the staff is paid accordingly.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 25, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) Where's he going to play next year when the Sox sign Hamilton per your plan? I really don't think the blow in Chicago is up to his standards. Does Miami have any money left?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:56 AM) I was struck last night by the similarities between Wood and Liriano with the expectations, the questions about their health because of their arm actions, and of course their nasty stuff. That's why I picked those two guys specifically. Winner. Gooden may have had the best stuff, ever.
  9. If I had to compare Reed's stuff to anybody, it would probably be Brad Lidge. Reed's has the out pitch in the slider. His fastball is plain nasty despite not hitting triple digits. I'd guess they didn't want to risk throwing him into the gauntlet too early. It's a nice change to the usual MO of rushing pitchers. If the early blown saves cost us a playoff spot, I'll buy all flavum's drinks for the next year. The Sox are not a playoff team.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 19, 2012 -> 06:47 AM) This. And I swear I've seen the eggs and their tips hatching, which could mean face huggers. There's a face hugger in one of the trailers. I don't think I've ever been more excited for a movie.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Its money that could have been spent more wisely on something that could actually help the Sox win. For a team that is always saying they are at their limit or their budget is stretched beyond their limit, it was curious spending $4 million on a guy with Manny's character and recent history. A really poor choice. His recent baseball history was still pretty good, including that .915 OPS. I understand the character issues.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) It clearly wasn't the same Manny Ramirez, and clearly wasn't going to be the same Manny Ramirez. If they had the money, which they obviously did, it was worth the risk. There was a decent chance one of the best hitters in the history of the game might have another couple months left in him. His OPS was still over .900 for an extended period that same year.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 19, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) You mean the same Ramirez that was busted for PED's in 2009 and then spent three separate stints on the DL in 2010 before the White Sox came calling? lol@taking a flier. They took a flier on Phil Humber. They spent $4 million bucks on Manny for 30 days to get them to the playoffs. Didn't end so well. So what? He's still Manny Ramirez. They had the money. They spent the money. It was a low risk/high upside move that didn't work out. When KW gets fired/retires/or whatever, you think people are going to look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was a clown. He took a shot at Manny Ramirez in a pennant race." *disclaimer* I'm pretty cynical about PED's, like cynical enough that I think most ball players still cheat. I'm cynical like thinking Josh Hamilton's great year is the result of him finding a better coke guy, with the Peruvian s***.
  14. How can you be pissed at a GM taking a flier on Manny Ramirez, "the" Manny Ramirez, the best RH hitter of our generation not named Thomas or Pujols , Manny Ramirez? It's too bad we ended up with corpse of Manny Ramirez, but he's still Manny f***in Ramirez.
  15. Missed the game. Can somebody tell me more about PK getting beaned? Was it intentional?
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) Sale needs to use his whole arsenal With this pitch that's sitting around 88-90 and moving away from RH, he can ditch the slider or change.
  17. I don't know if it's a 2 seamer or a cutter that Sales been throwing but the Angels don't like it.
  18. Wells has T Rex arms. He looks ridiculous running.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Danks You sure you want to pay a career reliever $20M in '15?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2012 -> 12:18 AM) The desperation was forcing him into the equation as the long-term answer at 3B instead of just as an experimental, one-season stopgap. The same thing as if we traded for Callaspo from the Angels to play there for the remainder of THIS season. Because of that idiotic, unwarranted extension, we traded Edwin Jackson for the last reliever on our major league roster (albeit, he's pitching better than expected, but still not a great end result). Viciedo was signed 2 years before Teahen started playing for the Sox. He was supposed to be the stop gap. He was signed for 3 years, right? That's a reasonable window for Viciedo to be ready. The Edwin Jackson rant is just a typical rant that may, or may not be related. You're just mad and you're gonna let everyone know, damnit!!! *edit* 1 year before, not 2
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:38 PM) This team really blows. It's just too hard to stay positive. I still watch because I love baseball and am only interested in the White Sox basically. The Royals intrigue me, but that team blows, as well. Plus I have no lifelong interest in that team. We don't blow, we're just not a very good, well rounded team. I knew that going into the year. I try to not get so fatalistic for every game. Give it a try. We sucked tonight, but at least Viciedo and Konerko had great nights. It's called the bright side, man.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:34 PM) We're not gonna beat a team like the Angels on the road at this stage of the season. Not gonna happen. Sox really starting to stink. Sad. You're a breath of fresh air. Anyway, I'm one of the biggest homers you'll ever find and even I'm ready for the Brent Morel era to die...forever. Please, KW, as a parting shot, don't f*** up the deadline trades.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) It would be pretty darned ironic if Viciedo does end up back at 3B, after all this. That type of desperate measure really has the potential to make the desperation trade and extension of Teahen look extremely short-sighted. Who did we trade for him, Getz and Fields? That just screams of "desperation." Wtf?
