  1. I'm a bike messenger. This is going to be a nightmare for us.
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 1, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) So, just finished the third GOT book, do I read the 4th or is it really that bad and I should just find a synopsis and go on to the 5th? I'd read it. Even though it's slow, there are a lot of details that you'll need to know for some of the upcoming twists. You're going to miss out on a lot of Bran stuff and he's developing into a major character. As others said, the Ironborn and Dornish are playing a huge role now. IMO, Storm of Swords is like the final part of Act 1 and Feast of Crows is the beginning of Act 2. Also, there's a ton of s*** in the North you won't want to miss. Actually, just read the damn book.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) One nice thing about the Sox/Cubs matchup...even if one team (or both) are terrible, they both step it up and play like it's a playoff series. Not just because of the fans, but you can feel there's more intensity on the field. Those games are always hard fought. I don't think that's been the case for a while. Sox/Cubs games don't have the same intensity they used to. Tickets aren't exactly hard to get anymore. It's lost it's luster and good riddance.
  4. Interleague play makes me cringe. Interleague play throughout the year makes me want to kick a cat.
  5. Stiff neck must be a medical term for hung over.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) I said it in another thread but 21 of 29 against the central starting Tuesday. So far they've shown themselves to be useful this season against the division. But if they can't do anything this month and inferior competition like Kansas City and Minnesota starts giving them fits then it's all over. That is a hole they will not be able to dig out of and itll be a long boring summer. 16, 17 of 21 is a must I love parody.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) Yes but he would have hit into 4 triple plays today. Is there a worse everyday player in baseball? That's a serious question.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) Mariano Rivera gets rocked from time to time. Thornton has been really good this year, just like he has for the vast majority of his White Sox career. If you don't think guys like Reed and Jones aren't going to get rocked every now and then, you are in for a huge dissappointment. I was replying to your post that said "Thornton's dealing right now." His last outing was good, but his 2 days ago he was bad. I don't exactly call that "dealing." I'm not opposed to Thornton closing only because Reed might not be ready. Thornton's definitely not a long term solution as a closer though.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) It should be Thornton. He's dealing now. When Jenks got hurt in 2010, he did fine as the closer. People are too focused on the disaster last year when he wasn't throwing well. Chances are the Sox aren't going to be a contender. Let him close and improve his trade value. Then when they trade him and Reed has his feet wet in MLB, he can move into the role. Let Santiago find his way in other situations. I don't understand why you have to keep throwing him out there in the 9th until he proves he's worthy of the assignment. He never has except in games that the players don't even get paid to play. Thornton got rocked in a high pressure situation 2 days ago.
  10. Closers have to have 2 qualities...A. Suiff B. Control. I'm not worried about Reed's control. I do question his stuff and having a real out pitch. Closers have to have an out pitch/stuff. I'm not sure that Reed qualifies.
  11. What in the hell happened? I stopped following the thread because greg775 kept saying we already lost.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) This is reminiscent of that game last year when Lillibridge fielded a single in deep CF and the runner scored all the way from 1st. Ozzie actually benched him for that...although Rios rarely suffered for about 40-50 misplays in the outfield. Lilly really dogged it on that play. I rarely get pissed during a game and I was out for blood after that.
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) I doubt if many of them get caught napping off second by the catcher. I posted before the happened.
  14. I love these gamethreads. If you didn't know any better, you'd never believe the best players in the history of the game failed 65% of the time.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 12:01 AM) Wasn't pulverized, but had he squared it up, it would have been, so I know what you mean. That really seemed like the only pitch all game that the Sox had a chance to legitimately score, and it would have gone over the fence had it worked out. The only thing I really questioned the entire game was leaving Gavin out for the 8th, but at the same time you really want a righty out there against Hughes because he kills lefties, so you pick your poison. Or you use Ohman to get out a weak hitter in Daric Barton and then bring in Crain or Reed to face Hughes and Kaaihue. Using a hit and run in the top of the 8th instead of a straight steal with Morel would have been interesting too and, worst case scenario and Beckham misses, you're left with the same scenario in the top of the 9th. Going Fukudome and Dunn was great and was something I haven't seen from a White Sox manager in a long, long time. There's no way you would have seen a pinch hitter for the #3 hitter, especially when he's been going pretty well, but it was absolutely the right call to make. Dunn missed the one pitch during the entire sequence that he could have parked. Not much more you can do. Milone did pitch really well too. With a soft tossing lefty like that, you need to take control of the inner half of the plate when he comes in, and they couldn't do that because he was locating so well. He was mixing up his pitches, keeping the ball down in the zone, and throwing first pitch strikes pretty much all night. I don't care how hard you throw, not many teams are going to be able to hit that. Buy this man a beer!
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:46 PM) The 3-1 or the 3-2? The 3-1 offering should have been pulverized. The 3-2 was a pretty damn good pitch. It was pulverized. It just went the wrong way.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) He's a guess hitter at this stage in his career, it seems. That 2-1 offspeed pitch by Balfour seemed to have changed Dunn's mindset at the plate. If you're looking for an offspeed pitch, you don't foul a fastball off like that.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:40 PM) It's 3-1. You HAVE to think fastball to be successful. If he aces you with an offspeed pitch, there's not much you can do. IF you swing and make weak contact, it'll probably result in an out. He did this the other night with the bases loaded on a 3-2 count. You KNOW it's going to be a fastball right there. The result was a backwards K. It was a real nice cut. He just missed it. There was absolutely no way he was looking for a breaking ball. No way.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:38 PM) Like Fathom said, they wouldn't go with the pitch and rap singles n doubles. That's really tough to do when the pitcher owns the inside half of the plate. He pitched well. Except it and move on.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:37 PM) Who cares if Rios is happy? Whole team sleepwalking tonight except Gavin. Nice effort. What do you say when our pitches pitch well and beat other teams? Do you think they were sleepwalking too?
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) Wow, Rios is not going to be happy Was Dunn on deck before the hit?
  22. I really don't know why you bring in Thornton when you need a double play. I would have stuck with Gavin. Meh.
