  1. Reed will get more work by not closing. It's probably a good thing. There's no point in having a rookie falling asleep in the bullpen because there aren't any save situations.
  2. Good. Every time I wear the hat people tell me it's a bootleg.
  3. I don't post here enough to really know the personalities. Is greg775 a parody poster?
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) It's okay though. We won't need prospects when our powerhouse rotation that rivals the Braves of the 90's comes to fruition. Wasn't Glavine the only guy that came through their system? Maybe Avery too. I don't remember.
  5. I think the Sox have a good pitching philosophy with an emphasis on starters who throw strikes and relievers with good arms. They do a good job identifying pitchers in that mold. The main problem is that they don't have much of a philosophy for positional players. I think Kenny favors toolsy players, but they seem to be more rare than ever and have a higher chance to flame out. They need to work on the direction in that regard.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) If Sale and Molina are top of the rotation starters, Reed is a top tier closer, Morel is an everyday 3B, and Beckham develops, that's pretty good production from one of the worst rated farm systems over the last three years. You can count Santos, Gio and Hudson too really.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) Prospect sites like BA, BP and Minor league ball are there to, well, talk about, break down and evaluate prospects. That's what they do. They don't care about when the last time a team made the playoffs was. The Blue Jays, led by AA, have built up their system at a rapid rate the last few years and that's why they get talked about so much. I understand. I just think people overrate prospects more than anything in sports, by far. If I'm looking for an organization to emulate, it's not going to be one that hasn't been to the play offs since Joe f***in Carter was a stud.
  8. Can somebody explain the jizzfest for the Jay's to me? Baseball America says they have a great farm? Awesome. Whens the last time they went to the playoffs? Prospect love is one of the biggest heists on the internet.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) I am a pretty huge basketball fan -- but this has spiraled out of control It is a thread about a fake trade dreamed up by some guy in Indiana. This thread never had a chance. Sorry. Go Sox?!?!
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 05:09 PM) Dr. J would be a better example, or Charles Barkley. Malone and Stockton. George Gervin. Alex English, etc. David Robinson, without Tim Duncan/Parker. I would say Malone was a very very good All-Star caliber center, but not one of the true superstars of the game. I guess it can be argued both ways. Moses Malone is the 7th all time scorer in NBA history. He's also the 5th leading rebounder in NBA history. He's not the player Karl Malone was, but he's far better than Barkley, English or Robinson.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) Considering the first two guys who got drafted the year Jordan got drafted both were ahead of him on the Bulls draft board, you can. I would bet every other team in the league did too. Jordan... I know. They still did a fantastic job building around him. They were creative. Pippen wasn't some can't miss guy. Kukoc was a great pick up out of Europe. They took a chance on Rodman. They basically built 2 separate teams anchored by a superstar. It's not like having the best player in the league is a lock either. How many championships did Wilt win? How about Moses Malone? The Bulls also did a great job marketing their brand. They're popular all over the country. How many other teams can boast fans in every city chanting "MVP?"
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) The Bulls are only where they are at because of one reason: Getting absolutely, extremely lucky with the 2008 Draft Lottery. 1.7% chance, and the Bulls got the No. 1 pick. Who knows where they would be without that? Lucky or not... You can't argue with 6 championships.
  13. I had the same injury as Morales. There's no way I could play organized sports again. I have a noticeable limp and limited dexterity.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) What exactly makes you think that he gave effort? I love those comments. The fat DH isn't lazy. When does he have a chance to be lazy? It doesn't take much effort to walk to the plate, take three swings and embarrass yourself.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) No doubt. They're a Gavin Floyd away from catching the Rays, Yankees and Red Sox. I can't tell if this is serious...
  16. I'm packing my bags just in case the Jays want a low level prospect with high upside to go along with Floyd.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) Seriously, did you watch Frasor pitch last season? You think that's irreplaceable? Clearly, he's lost more than notch or two off his stuff from overuse the last 5 years. Also find it amusing when AA drafts those guys and overslots, he's a baseball version of Houdini or Billy Beane...but when the White Sox trade for them, they're in firesale or crisis mode. If we actually were in that position, we would have traded Danks already. The only two players we're likely to trade between now and April (and that could severely harm our chances of being competitive) are the same ones we've all been talking about, Matt Thornton and Gavin Floyd, and Crain, too. Mark Teahen and his wife made the White Sox relevant? Winning games and divisions is what makes us relevant...some of that in 2012 would go a long way towards what's currently ailing the organization and its fans. By the way, Quentin was a slow-footed veteran (of 29). The only slow-footed guy we really should have kept was Jim Thome two seasons ago. Dye, also gone. But we still have Konerko, Dunn and AJ to pacify Greg's desire for Molina-esque speed out of the box...and AJ's really the best baserunner on the team, and the 2nd best I've seen in the last 20 years on the Sox, after Jose Valentin. HAHAHA!!! AJ's the second best base runner on the Sox in the last 20 years? Surely you jest. Do you work for Hawk or something? Jesus.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) I would certainly hope there aren't any more out there. I enjoyed following him as a prospect. He's probably the last prospect I cared to follow. I didn't say I looked back on his career fondly.
  19. I'm probably the only Sox fan that looks back on Borchard fondly. He as was probably my favorite prospect ever because of his tools. More importantly, he hit the 2 hardest balls I've ever seen. The first was a line drive at Skydome. I think it was the game he left early burning has hand sliding on the turf. The second was a bomb at the Cell that I swear hit above the concourse shower. Regarding Beckham... hitch+ in between= inability to hit fastball. If he doesn't change his swing, he's going to have to get stronger to check his swing when he guesses wrong.
  20. Regarding Frasor, its apparent the plan is to get real young as far as the rotation. If that's the case, having some dependable, veteran presence in the bullpen makes a lot of sense. We've got some kids about the thrown into the gauntlet and that bullpen is gonna get some work.
  21. Promotions for the thousands of college students that live within 15 minutes of the Cell couldn't hurt. Something like $5 tickets with a college I.d. It wont generate a whole lot of money, but it never hurts to try to generate some buzz among young people. It'll expose new people to the Cell and hopefully expand the fanbase. A lot of those kids become permanent transplants. Converting them could happen.
  22. Molina seems to be similar to Hudson. Both guys have ace peripherals with mid rotation stuff. Both guys seems to have shot up the prospect lists out of nowhere. 2 questions... 1. Would you guys have been happy with trading Hudson for Santos straight up? 2. Did Edwin Jackson have less or more value than Santos?
  23. We have to consider that there were some red flags with Santos that may have concerned the Sox. Ie. Durability and over reliance on the slider. Like I said earlier, its all speculation. Nobody here really knows the market or the Sox motivation for moving Santos.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) The idea that no one outside of MLB can evaluate whether a trade is good or bad is pretty ridiculous. The idea that anybody here knows the true value of Santos is even more ridiculous. I like Santos, but he's brink down 2 years in a row. His slider is tough to repeat. When its not working, he's worthless. Perhaps other GMs also noted that.
  25. Here's a fact for you guys... Nobody here has ever sat through am MLB trade negotiation. Nobody here knows what we could have gotten or should have gotten. Nobody here really knows the market for a closer 3 years removed from being a SS bust. Nobody knows what it really takes to land a top 50 type prospect. It seems the Sox have an organizational philosophy for pitching. You have to throw strikes to pitch here. This kid throws strikes.
