QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) Exactly. He's just the face, as he has been for probably 15-20 years now. Maybe the majority of the blame should be directed at the people actually making decisions about things other than simply football games. They all get to share the blame. They're all pieces of s***, deviant cowards and the institution they represent gets to share their shame.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) This is such crap. He made some mistakes. He's not the monster at the center of this. No, but he's the face of an institution that did their best to cover it up to protect the image of their precious football program. Wtf is wrong with these people?

I just can't help imagining the conversation. "Coach Paterno, I don't know how to tell you this, but I walked into the locker room shower last night and saw Coach Sandusky ass raping a 10 year old boy." How do you not act? Telling your boss just is not enough. It's that simple. There's infinite blame to go around and Paterno is right near the top.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) See...why is the picture of Joe Paterno and not Jerry Sandusky? WHY WHY WHY? Probably because he's the face of an organization that's not only covered up, bit enabled, a serial child rapist. That poor old man. Give me a break.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) I have. What's your point? Paterno already said in hindsight he wished he had taken a different approach. Hindsight? The motherf***er had 13 years of hindsight.

I'd think his inability to correct his swing would be a red flag to a lot of teams.

You want impact players to make an impact, especially in big situations. During a crucial AB, most umps are going to give the pitcher the benefit on pitches an inch off the corner. You have to earn runs, especially in the playoffs.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) I think you're making a gross exaggeration. It seems that the majority of people in favor of hiring Thomas are the same ones who love the Ventura signing. There are obviously some exceptions. Ah yes, the best argument to date. Some pretty awful managers have had success at one point or another, thus this move is great. Clearly, the reference to a comedy is to be taken seriously.

It's just baseball, man. Lou Brown won a pennant.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) So, they could have hired absolutely anybody who has played for a reasonable amount of time, and it's an OK move? It's not like pulled these out of the Shell on Belmont and Kedzie and loaded them up in a pickup. They're baseball lifers.

A. I don't think a group of guys that have spent their adult lives in a dugout are going to be overwhelmed by the daunting decisions that happen during a baseball game. OMG...should we hit and run? I can't take it. Do we pull this pitcher? Maybe they can poll the audience. We'll make sure they don't f*** up. B. If they think Dunn simply had an off year, then they aren't doing their homework. I don't watch much NL ball, but I can't believe he was missing so many balls by a foot or more prior to last year. He's all kinds of f***ed up. Like, me riding my bike home on a Friday night f***ed up.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Having outfielders doesn't mean being loaded with outfielders. The only one who has proven he's worth a s***, when healthy, is Carlos Quentin, and all signs point to him being dealt this offseason. It would be a quintessential Kenny signing.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) This post makes me feel a lot better about the future of the Sox. The problem is that we haven't produced many impact prospects. Baseball America makes money by touting the Brandon Wood's of the world, not the Chris Getz.' Though Getz might have a longer career. We've produced a ton of organizational filler bit have had to be creative with impact players. Those star quality players haven't lived up to their end and it makes KW look like a moron. If Rios, Dunn, and Peavy play well, he's a genius.
-
I can only imagine this crazy clubhouse where spies are needed. Rios doing lines off a strippers boobs. AJ and MB playing beer pong. Sale and Beckham pulling 6 ft bongs. Ramirez and Viciedo sacrificing a goat next to their Santeria shrine. JFP riding around naked on a painted pony with a bottle of Wild Turkey in an Indian headdress. And Sergio carrying a little cooler screaming "tamale! tamale!." Oh, the insanity.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) Problem is the spy got a longer contract than the new manager. Could it be that's because he's really good at his job? Herm should be given a lifetime contract while they're at it.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Moral? If you are trying to put together a close knit team that will support each other, it's tough if someone is whispering to the boss about little s***. If Kenny can't put together a team and then trust them, he f***ed up. It's baseball. What could these guys have been doing that they didn't want Kenny to know about? I guess snitches weren't a big deal when Anderson was riding the bench for kicking the s*** out of a Guillen kid. None of that even matters. I'm going to side with the guys who's been nothing but loyal to the club and been pretty damn good at his job. That guy isn't Ozzie Guillen.
-
Why shouldn't KW know everything that goes on in the clubhouse? It's his f***in team. He's the boss. He put of together. If he wants to sit on Konerko's lap in the dugout for every game, he can. Spies? Get the f*** outta here. Ozzie thought he was bigger than the Chicago White Sox. f*** him.

This franchise has been around for over 100 years. It's not going anywhere. A rebuild isn't going to change anything. Where would the Sox go? There's already too many teams in MLB. Outside of this year, the franchise has been financially successful.

This thread makes absolutely zero sense.

What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
TaylorStSox replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
After 8 years of posting on these boards, the only thing that is certain is that nobody knows a players trade value. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:59 PM) However, if you subtract Buehrle AND Danks OR Floyd, that rotation goes from a strength to a definite weakness. Then Chris Sale simply HAS to quickly evolve into the next Randy Johnson...and not break down like Liriano somewhere in the process. As far as 2005 goes, the statute of limitations for the majority of the fanbase has already passed. Expectations have increased, and you can both blame and credit KW for that. Most of the posters here aren't expecting a competitive team before 2014. So, if they're not at least .500 in 2014, are you still going to cite 2005 as the reason to retain KW? Just curious. What has he done in the last 3 years to give Sox fans a reason for hope? I hope it's something more than Humber, Santos, Sale and Viciedo!!! Personally, I've liked the teams he's assembled over the last couple years. On paper we should have been bettter. We weren't. That's life. That's baseball. I don't think he's the best GM around, bit I think he understands how to build a competitive mid market team. You have to take some risks. You're right. 2005 didn't grant Williams a lifetime contract. I am bothered by this attitude that he's baseball retarded despite building a World Championship team though.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) Rios and Peavy were definitely risks, but I don't have much of a problem with his other major moves. Who could've predicted that Adam Dunn would post a .569 OPS this year? Most of his other acquisitions (Garcia, Dye, Contreras, AJ, Danks, Floyd, Jenks, Thome) worked out really well. If anything, his aggressiveness was a plus. The one very legit criticism is the farm system under Kenny. THAT'S what's going to harm his legacy. The farm hasn't produced enough impact players and KW's been forced to get creative to find them. Unfortunately those guys failed to live up to their end of the bargain. However, the following positions will be filled by guys we've had some part in developing. LF, RF, 3B, SS, 2B, Closed, Set up, a couple starters and most of the bench. That's not a bad nucleus to build around. The problem is that the rest of the positions are filled with veterans who are underperforming. The good side is that most of that nucleus are under team control for a good amount of time.

Worse shape than 2001? You mean that great team that didn't win a damn thing. We're not in nearly as bad of shape as you make it out to be. We're relatively young and still have strong pitching. For a team that has such an awful system we'll have a bunch of contributions from players that spent time in said system. I'm not a fan of where we're at, but it's nowhere near as dire as this site makes it out to be. In fact, if a couple things go our way next year, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Sox overtake the Tigers. They're good but hardly a Juggernaut. Now I understand wju that hyperbole thread was a sticky. BTW, I know its easy to forget but there is that thing we did a few years ago that nearly 90 years of Sox players and GM's failed to accomplish.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) And that the "riverboat gambler" side of him lost out in a series of bad moves at the end of his tenure. Perhaps from the bigger perspective, he'll be most remembered as a GM whose goal (while not often accomplished) was to put the White Sox in a position to compete every season, particularly from July until the end of the season. It's a bit ironic that with all of the hype for his trades and mid-season "tinkering," it was only in 2005 and 2008 that he actually succeeded, and adding Geoff Blum (in 05) was perhaps one of the most under-the-radar moves of his entire tenure. Maybe the vanishing dream of the "Sox decade" in Chicago with the collapse of the 2006 team and the freefall in 07. Finally, the last 3 years of acrimony with Ozzie, punctuated by the Dunn/Rios/Peavy/Swisher/Edwin Jackson moves. Some of you guys are so over the top it's hilarious. It's like we're the Orioles or Indians over here.
