  1. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 02:49 AM) Every point guard was throwing up alley oops and running out of control. Collins set Scheyer up for 2 of the 3 three pointers. He is the quintessential PG. Since when have "quintessential PG's" been shoot first players? Don't get me wrong, he's super talented. He's also a 5'10 off guard.
  2. QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) yeah, I have to agree. It's a shame that no one seems even close to the top 10 guys of the 80's and 90's. Everybody's playing football or Basketball. That's the only logical reason I can come with. The interest in boxing is certainly a cause. However, alot of it has to do with the new era of "super heavyweights." If a guy doesn't have the body type to fight at 240+, he won't compete in that division. It's a much smarter move to work your ass off and fight at a lower weight class. Of the super heavyweights, the only truly gifted fighter was Lennox Lewis. BTW... I picked Ali. It's not even close.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:32 AM) Angels farm system exceeds ours to such a degree it's almost ridiculous. Only they could have such a hitter available in their low A system, trade him, and not blink. Whose a hitter in our organization with such numbers in Low A that Williams could trade without hurting us? Take Casilla's number on our Low A ballclub and they'd exceed everyones aside from Gentz. According to John Sickels, Gentz is rated as our 14th prospect. Casilla, with his numbers, is the 5th/6th rated INFIELD prospect. Not including outfield or pitchers. Considering our organization hasn't exactly done well recently producing IF talent, I'd think twice about moving Gentz. Although honestly, without hesitation, I'd trade Gentz alone if it gave us Romero. But you add our 14th rated prospect, another prospect, Borchard for a decent reliever--in an offseason where we've unready unloaded the pantry of prospects--I'm a little reluctant. That decent reliever status better be more assured that a Felix Diaz clone. LOL. I've never seen a guy go on such a long tangent about a prospect, and what he could net you, without even knowing the kid's damn name. That kills your credibility with everything else in this post. If you don't know the name of one our better IF prospects, and a high selection in last year's draft, what makes you think that anybody cares about your evaluation of a guy in the Angel's system that you've surely never heard of?(longest sentence ever) BTW... 5 or 6th best IF prospect, IN BASEBALL? Keep on making things up. It's amusing.
  4. It's a cool little place. I go there on Tuesdays for 25 cent beer night. It's a good time. They have pretty good food too.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Thome has a higher career OPS, and had a higher OPS in 2004, Thome's last full year healthy. Elaborate? He's younger. He hits for average. He strikes out less and hits more doubles. He's not coming off of a year ending injury. He's never hit as many homers, but hasn't hit in the quality of parks that Thome has. I love Thome. I also think Delgado's the better player and more of a sure thing. I'm happy either way. I'm not going to act like I didn't want Delgado though.
  6. Delgado > Thome I would have rather had Delgado.
  7. Why don't I ever see much mention of Chris Getz? His college career was impressive. I hear he's good with the glove, has a great K/BB ratio and decent speed. I understand that he hasn't had a full year in the system yet.
  8. When he has consistant AB's, I see a guy who's eerily similar to future HOF Aaron Rowand.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) The way I think of it is the earlier he's there, the more time he spends with Greg Walker. The more time he spends with Greg Walker, the worse off he is IMHO. Walker's not going to touch Thome's swing. No hitting coach is going to tell a future hall of famer how to swing the bat. He'll try to assist him. That's all.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 08:18 AM) This is where some people have confused me. Question marks about a young guy that has 4 seasons of .500 or better baseball vs. a guy with a handful of starts. One is a question mark and one has "proven" it. Sorry, in my book, Garland has proven it, BMac is more of a question mark. I agree. I think it's both unfair and unrealistic to expect anything more than 10-12 4.50 ERA out of Bmac.
  11. Losing Harris' glove, speed and obp. wouldn't be a good thing. If Pods goes down, you could consider moving Harris to CF and Anderson to LF or RF. I'm not confident that Pods can return to his SB form.
  12. QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) yeah pretty much. cant really think of an exception off the top of my head Forrest Gump 2001: Space Odessey
  13. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) Everytime a ball is hit my buddies and I are quoting the Hawkeroo. That's what we as White Sox fans will always do. That's what YOU, as a White Sox fan, will always do.
  14. My ideal line up... (probably never going to happen) Pods/Pierre Iguchi Giles Delgado Konerko Dye Crede AJ Uribe
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Resign Konerko Deal Marte/Duque and Ryan Sweeney for Carlos Delgado (I've been on the Delgado bandwagon for a while and Florida is going to have to get rid of him). Sign a lefty reliever to replace Marte (it would be nice if this guy was the veteran swing man who could ocassionally start) Exercise option on Politte Give Garland a 3yr deal worth 18-24 mill (depending on incentives) Pick up a veteran swingman to enter the pen (who could start if someone falters or gets hurt) Give AJ a 2yr 8 mill deal with a club option for a 3rd year worth 5 million Basically the lineup stays status quo with one exception: Pods Rowand Iguchi Delgado Konerko Pyrzinski Dye Crede Uribe You could switch the lineup up and keep Rowand down in the lineup but I think Guchi could do some good things. You basically add a legitimate middle of the order bat, keep the pitching staff in-tact, and maybe add something to the back of the pen while resigning everyone. How has Rowand shown he's a 2 hitter? He K's far too much. He doesn't walk. He pops out alot. The only thing that makes him viable for that position in the order is his bunting ability. Other than that, he's a bottom of the order hitter. Iguchi's been a different 2 hole hitter in the 2nd half. He's had his oppurtunities to swing away and get on base. He hasn't shown what it takes to be a 3 hitter. If it ain't broke...
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) No maybe not I havent watched a lot of Detroit games. But when Magglio was here he was a good fielder with a good arm. Dye is a bad fielder with a great arm. Magglio was an average fielder with a poor RF arm. He didn't have good range. He came in on balls well, but got bad reads off the bat and struggled going back. Saying Maggs had a "good arm" is just bulls***. Sorry. You're wrong. What RF havef worse throwing arms than Maggs? Carlos Lee went from being the worst LF I'd ever seen to being a below average fielder with virtually no range.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) Dye used to be good in the field but those days are behind him. He has been pretty bad out there this season not liability bad but below avg. Rowand is like our savior out there defensivly with Pods and Dye at the corners. How many times has Dye's arm stopped runners going from 1st to 3rd. We were terrible at holding guys for years. Maggs was horrible at it. Minnesota ate us alive going from 1st to 3rd.
  18. Finally, the notion of an "offensive" position isn't that relevant in today's game. The only true offensive postion that exists is 1st. SS's and 2b's are changing that. They hit now. They hit for power. If you think the 8th and 9th hitters are the reason that this team struggles offensively, then you need to put everything in perspective.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) Crede is not even one > better than rowand. You want to be strong up the middle ( catcher, short stop, second, center) and why would we want to get rid of one of the best outfielders in baseball period unless we get a big bat in his place. Delgado is not that big bat. The marlins have no intention on trading delgado after signing him to a 4 year deal with an option for a fifth... even if some have speculated that. Podsednik's and dye's range make up for the loss of rowands? Dye has vitually no range and whatever speed podsednik has is countered by him running in on balls that are past him and going back on balls in front of him. Seen very little of anderson in the field and what i have seen leaves me no reason to believe he will be better than rowand in center... once more one of the best in baseball. Anderson could and most likely will be worse than rowand in his first professional year. He will strike out 150+ times in his first year with a ops around .725-.775 ( i think i am being generous). 1) Saying Delgado's not a big bat is crazy. He's still one of the most dominant LH in the game. 2) His contract was backloaded for a reason. The Marlins have made their last push, with the team that's there. Their organization is in a real, real bad situation. They're going to want to get somebody off of the books. 3) A strong CF is somewhat negated by the size of the Cell. The gaps are almost nonexistant, which is reflected in the 2b totals of our hitters. 4) While Crede is remarkably inconsistant... -He's cheaper -He drives in more runs -He K's far less -He walks just as much -He's a better defender relative to his postion. -He has more power. -He's more valuable to a rotation that feature MB and JG. 5) Rowand's average at best. He's had 1 really strong 1/2 season. He may be a fan favorite, but don't forget, these are the same fans that have boo'd the second best RH hitter in the history of baseball!
  20. Personally, I'd upgrade CF and DH. Rowand Our pitchers rely on a good IF defense. We only have 2 strike out pitchers. A slight downgrade in CF would put less burden on the pitchers than a downgrade at 3rd. Remember, the gaps at the Cell are some of the smallest in the league. Our CF doesn't need to have great speed, as evidenced by Rowand. Plus, the range of Dye and Pods can make up for some of what may be lost. Pods isn't a very good defensive player, but he is rangey. We may be able to use Rowand in a package to land Delgado. Anderson could take over at CF. Some argue that Anderson may even be a defensive upgrade. Anderson couldn't produce less than Rowand. It's not like Rowand's selection at the plate is good. He leads the team in K's. A strong defensive IF is crucial to the success of this team.
  21. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) Ok guys, since some of you are hellbent on retaining Crede... how exactly would you change the lineup?? You obviously realize that this lineup is inept at producing runs. The Marlins are NOT going to trade Pierre, why the heck would they? They have absolutely no reason to do so. Delgado... maybe even though I don't recall them trying to unload his contract at the trade deadline and the fact that they JUST signed him... seems weird that they would want to trade him. But in any event, we'd be fortunate to pull that off. So who DO we trade or let go then? Obviously I think everyone agrees on Everett, but more needs to be done. Don't kid yourselves with delusions of grand "potential" stats. As we've seen this year, we need to plan for the worst. PLAN on Arow only being a .275 hitter with little pop, plan on Crede and Uribe swinging for the fences and popping out or striking out 7 times out of 10, count on AJ hitting 40 points below his career average for whatever reason, count on Frank not being back. Why you ask? Because plan on our pitching staff not being able to duplicate what it did in the first half of this year next year. Because they haven't shown signs of getting better. What do you have then? A miserable lineup, just like this year. There HAVE to be replacements, plain and simple...people that can actually hit. Looking at career numbers and contract situations, I say Crede's the odd man out. He's gotta hit .500 in the last 2 weeks of the season for me to even think about bringing his popup prone bat back. The Marlins have been trying to move Pierre for a couple years. They also backloaded Delgado's contract with the idea of only keeping him around for a year. Why would they trade him at midseason when they were in the playoff hunt? He's only making 4 this year. I believe it goes up to 12 next year. Pierre would just be a throw in. He's not that much different than Pods. The only reason that I'd consider moving Pods is that his inability to run is scary. Who knows if he will ever get on form again. He's not getting any younger. My original post was somewhat tongue and cheek and semi green. However, picking up Delgado is a serious possiblity. Don't forget that Pierre makes 3.5 while Pods is still league minimum.
  22. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) I think that saying something can't be backed by eivdence is a copout. I don't have one statistic that I love for defense but come on. That's just hyperbole. Unless you watch the games. You haven't noticed a difference in the approach of our pitchers? Statistics are so overdone in baseball. It's beyond pathetic. You look at a guy like Ryan Sweeney and his numbers don't wow you. If you've seen his swing, and his frame, then it would make you optimistic that this kid's going to produce.
  23. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) the "makes up for it argument" is thrown around a little loosely. Show me a fact that backs up that his defense makes him a better than average third-baseman when it comes to combining all facets of the game. It's not something that you can back up with any type of evidence. A good defensive IF changes the way pitchers approach the game. Other people might not have noticed, but when Crede went down, our pitchers stopped attacking hitters. Coincidence? Possibly. I'd like to believe differently.
  24. 1) Resign PK 2) Arbitration for Crede 3) Pods, Fields, Tracey, lower level prospect for Delgado, Pierre... The Fish want to get rid of Delgado's contract. We take on the whole thing and give them a needed 3B prospect along with Pods to fill the hole left from Pierre. With Cabrera moving to 3rd we could always offer a different prospect not named Chris Young. Or, you could offer them Rowand and start Anderson. Even with Anderson's big swing, he couldn't possibly K more than Rowand. He wouldn't be a defensive downgrade. He has to able to produce better power numbers. Pierre Iguchi Delgado Konerko Dye AJ Rowand Uribe Crede That line up's much better because of Delgado. An impact bat could change alot of approaches with the rest of the guys in the line up. Hell, since this is all speculation, we sign Giles too. We could throw him in left. Pierre Iguchi Giles Delgado Konerko Dye AJ Uribe Crede While we're at it, we upgrade the pen with Wagner. We raise our payroll to 105 million. We win the world series. Everyone is happy. I win.
