I get that. I don't see much value in spending money for the sake of it. Overall, I'm still happy with the direction of the team and I'm more excited about next than I've been for a long time. I want them to add a veteran SP, but I don't want them to add garbage just to show they're willing to spend money. Unfortunately, after Wheeler, there's not much left. I don't think you platoon him at all. I'd rather they run him out there every day. This is hopefully an 85 win team. Platooning him doesn't make it a 95 win team.

I'm also glad we traded Walker and not Rutherford. I still like Rutherford a lot more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mazara take off. He's got the profile and a really pretty swing.

He's also 5 years younger and way cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be a 6 or 7 WAR player over the next 2 years.

He's a 10 WAR player over 3700 PA's. He doesn't suck, but he ain't good.

I would rather have Mazara and his contract than Castellanos. Mazara is LH, cheap and still has a lot of upside. Castellanos is older, not very good and about to be fairly expensive.

This team is always, and was always, going to go as far as Kopech, Gio, Cease and Lopez will take them. That's your core, either live with it, or don't.

Well, no shit. If you ever had any expectation of the Sox offering anywhere near $300mm for a starting pitcher, you're just a masochist. It will never, ever, ever happen.

He's also 24 and a former top 15 prospect. I don't think there's any doubt that Mazara has a lot more talent than Walker.

He might be a change of scenery guy. We have a strong young Latin American presence that could help him. Former top 15 prospect/$5mm signing. Easy swing. Nice arm. He's got a lot more upside than Walker, but he's running out of time.
