  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Once again, Hollandsworth was in the lineup the day he was traded to the Braves. The fact that Walker is playing means absolutely nothing. Like I said, it isn't always the case, but it can have something to do with it. If they were finalizing the deal as we speak, Walker would NOT be in the lineup. That was my point. No deal for Walker is close.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) Crap.. Brandon is going to start agaist Boston in the make up game.. Nothing like getting tossed to the wolves. If he pitches like he did last night, he will do just as fine against that lineup. If you go position by position, Texas can almost stack up with Boston as far as lineups go, they just have zero pitching.
  3. Walker is in the Cubs starting lineup for today, so I guess a deal is not that close to happening. I know that this isn't always a 100% accurate situation where if a player might get traded he has to sit, but its a good measuring stick. My guess is that this deal isn't happening.
  4. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) 6 game lead here we come :headshake Maybe Ozzie doesn't realize, but this division is still up for grabs. He is picking lineups like the Sox are up by 15 games with 20 left to play. Time for Oz to wake up. If Texas plays their regulars, the Sox are in big trouble.
  5. Hey, if you think about it, today was a good day. The Sox held their ground in the AL Central and reduced their magic number.
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) People said that every time he pitched this year. It hasn't worked so far and I'll bet it won't work again. 5 runs, easy. Well, let's hear it. I think 7.2 innings of 2 hit, no run ball would go right in the great game category. This kid stepped up big for this team right when they needed it. Right now, I can't say enough good things about him. What a performance!
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) 3 in a row. Boy am I glad that college football is starting this weekend. I'm ready to get to Kinnick and cheer on my Hawkeyes. Oh, and yes this team is sinking VERY fast!
  8. QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) He doesnt know what overrated is. Overrated is not a bad player, just a player who is thought more highly of than he should be. For that reason, Greinke is not overrated. Greinke just sucks. In fact, hes probably underrated. He didnt really start sucking until it became quite apparent that his offense was never going to help him out (Todd Ritchie Syndrome). Hes a better player than people normally think. So Scotties underrated in that aspect as well. He doesnt get the respect that he deserves. No one notices Scott. He got left off a recent list of the fastest major league players, which just goes to show how little attention he gets. And if Ichiros name is on a list of overrated players because he lacks power, then the list should just be automatically disqualified. Thats the most ridiculously stupid thing Ive ever seen. This guy has no understanding of the game at all. His dream team would have been something like the 2001-2004 Sox. And where did those teams go? Nowhere! Podsednik did get some recognition though. He made the All-Star team. That is a lot of recognition. I was very happy for him, but in all honesty, Jeter had far superior numbers and probably should have gone over Podsednik. I do think Pods is overrated. But I do disagree with some other people on his list.
  9. Please, please don't stick up for guys just because they are on the White Sox. That makes us Sox fans seem like unintelligent baseball fans. Look at the stats. Scotty is around the 10th best left fielder in the AL. He made the All-Star team because of the White Sox early season success, not his stats. He is overrated and you have no stats or facts to back up the fact that he isn't. I like Scotty, but when you break it down, the stats DO speak for themself.
  10. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) you only chose the stats that fit your argument. Not sure if Scotty is overrated or not but it's not fair to do that if you are goign to leave off things he's better at. All I know is that when he gets on base, good htings happen and I don't care what the numbers say about that. I'm sorry. Pods is also 9th in hits, 10th in doubles, 1st in being caught stealing (3 times as many CS than any other left fielder), 5th in walks, 6th in on base percentage, and 11th in on base plus slugging percentage. But yes, I was trying to keep these stats out of the picture just to prove my point. Oh wait, these stats only strengthen the point even more that Scotty is overrated.
  11. Name the stats that he is near the top in then, especially before you accuse me of giving a one-sided explanation. I mentioned the one he leads in, stolen bases.
  12. Let's look at the stats. These stats are rankings for left fielders in the AL. Scott is last in homers, 7th in runs scored, 9th in batting average, last in slugging percentage, last in triples, 17th in the RBI (which means there are backup left fielders with more RBI's). So now you tell me if those stats deserve to be an All Star? No they don't. Is Scotty overrated, yes. He does steal a lot of bases, but that means nothing if you don't score. I would take 7 other left fielders in the AL before Scotty. Ramirez, Matsui, Anderson, Crawford, Mench, Crisp, and Stewart. If you are looking for offense, Scotty is not the man. Sorry, but the facts back it up. Podsednik is overrated.
  13. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) They've been PPD. Thanks
  14. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Cleveland isn't going to win tonight. They won't lose either... ??? Did I miss something?
  15. If you would have asked me the probability that the Sox would make the playoffs one month ago, I would have said 99% chance. Today if you asked me the same question, my response would be 85%. I am still pretty confident that this team will be in the postseason. For me that isn't really the issue. Not that the Sox are a lock to make the playoffs, because they are not. But the big issue for me is what will the Sox do once they make the playoffs. Again, if you asked me a month ago, what are the chances that the Sox will win the World Series, I would have said they have a 50% chance to win it all. If you asked me the same question today, I would say the Sox have about a 10% chance of winning the World Series. My confidence in this team winning it all has gone down more than my confidence in this team making the playoffs. I really thought a month ago that this was the year. Unfortunetly, I'm not feeling that way anymore. This team just doesn't have the lineup to carry a team through the playoffs. Unless the pitching staff pitches out of their minds for the entire post season, I see the Sox losing in the second round, maybe even the first. That is the real issue here. The point isn't just making the post season, but doing something special once you are there.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) maybe it's that he's allowed more than 2 runs in a start just once since returning to Charlotte. There is some proof to go with my optimistic prediction for tonight. Now I have some facts to go with my gut feeling. McCarthy has the stuff to get it done at the big league level. He just hasn't shown us that yet this year (besides the Cubs game). Maybe he went back to Charlotte, got his stuff together, and is ready to step up for this team right when they need him to. That is my thinking going into the game.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Besides blind optimism, I don't understand how people could think he'll go deep into a game without giving up a ton of runs. You are partly right. It is part blind optimism on my part, and the other part is based on the potential that he has shown me (mainly spring training). If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But its better to go into the game with the blind optimism than sheer negativity. I guess we'll see.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) People said that every time he pitched this year. It hasn't worked so far and I'll bet it won't work again. 5 runs, easy. I'll take that gentlemen's bet. I say McCarthy will go at least 6 innings and will not give up more than 4 runs. You say 5 runs easy, I say no way.
  19. For some reason, I think McCarthy is going to pitch very well today. I know common sense and past performance wouldn't suggest that, but sometimes you just have a feeling. Garland winning game one would be huge. Hopefully they can get off to a good start and carry it into the second game as well. But you're right, Hawk sometimes just needs to say what is really going on. The Sox have played terrible baseball the last couple of weeks and if they continue to play this poorly, they will NOT even win the AL Central. Sometimes the truth hurts, but they really need to kick it back in gear. In my opinion they will do just that, but time will tell.
  20. To me, today is a huge day for the White Sox and the Indians. Currently the Sox have a comfortable 7 game lead in the Central. Not as comfortable as the 15-16 game lead they had a month ago, but still comfortable. With the Sox playing a double header and Cleveland playing Detroit. There is a possibility of some big momentum to be won today. The Sox can take a strong hold of that momentum if say, they win both games of their double header and then Cleveland loses. That would push the lead up to 8.5 games. Or, the Sox could lose both games and Cleveland could win, putting the lead at just 5.5 games. If that happens, the Central is offically back up for grabs. Thats why I think today is HUGE in determining if the Sox can finish the Central off or be in for a dog fight the rest of the season. Odds are the Sox split and Cleveland wins, but today has the potential to be a very big day for one team or the other. Let's hope it goes well for our White Sox!
  21. Only 3 of Buehrle's 14 wins have come against teams with winning records. Buehrle does NOT beat the good teams, teams that the Sox may play in the playoffs. Sorry, but facts are facts.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) If Anderson was called up, that is terrific news. I agree completely. I think he brings so much more to the table than little Willie. The only thing Willie brings is a bit of speed. Anderson has some speed, can hit for a decent average, and has some pop in his bat. He does strikeout a bit too much to lead off, but he is a much better choice than Willie. I'm excited to see what he can do.
  23. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) yeah I probably should've just looked at the threads about him, but anyways, this isn't turning into a Griffey thread, haha. Yeah, I just don't want to get yelled at within my first 100 posts for bringing up something that there are already like 8 threads on. I know these guys can be pretty mean!
  24. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) I haven't been looking at the rumors for Griffey anymore, but is there still really a chance that we could get him? I would say that if anybody is going to trade for Griffey, the Sox are the leader by a large margin. With that said, I would still guess it is unlikely that the Sox get him, but you never know. Sorry guys, I don't want to turn this into another Griffey to the Sox thread.
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) On Saturday, Guillen said minor leaguers Jerry Owens or Brian Anderson would be possible replacements if Podsednik had to go on the disabled list. On Sunday, he added Willie Harris' name to the list. FYI Owens hasnt been in the lineup the past few days. Maybe Owens has been sitting the last couple of days for a different reason. Dare I say, a trade involving Ken Griffey Jr.
