  1. OK, no more Mizzou bashing. (Class of 2000) Hey, we won our bowl game last year.
  2. Don't forget to vote for Rowand in the NL.
  3. Jon Garland looks like Rick Vaughn.
  4. I seem to remember someone saying the park couldn't face the skyline because of water tables. And if they really wanted to harken back to old comiskey, they would slather the new green seats with about five hundred layers of green paint.
  5. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) gonzalez of the trib did not impress me this year. padilla from the sun-times was ok, but he just left for the la times. it will be interesting to see who the s-t pulls in to cover the team this year. Not to nitpick, but Padilla joined the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and will cover the Angels for them, as well as the other papers in the LA Daily News group. Sorry, I'm a journalism dork.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 02:59 AM) Finally, in favor of HS draftees, who would you rather have coaching a player, your minor league system or a college staff of questionable skills and methods? While I see your point about having your coaches developing talent and teaching things by the organization's formula, I'm not sure where you're going with ripping college coaches. Some of the best baseball coaches period have been in the college ranks (the late Rod Dedeaux comes to mind). While some kids might not get a lot out of the college experience, some have been helped tremendously by playing college ball. Players that age (17-21) need to mature as people, too.
  7. Let's not forget that the MLB pension is currently $176,000 a year, so I think he'll be fine even if he shortchanges himself by a couple-three million in this contract. Besides, in '07 it's Liotta time, kids!
  8. what, no mention of bob james? for shame, boys, for shame.
  9. If you have an actual TiVo (not a clone or a DVR from your cable company, etc.) you can get software from the TiVo Web site called TiVo Desktop. There should be a USB jack on the back of your TiVo unit. Plug that into your router, install the software and go to town. It will allow you to pull recorded shows from your tivo to your computer. Plus it also allows you to play any music files on your computer through your tivo unit, or view photos on your TV.
  10. I think the quality of the organization and city has a lot to do with it, too. Some treat their players better than others. You could sign that free-agent deal with the Yankees and chase a ring, but if you have one mediocre, or worse, season, they won't hesitate to ship you somewhere, and you'll be a pariah in the largest market in a new york-centric media. Or you could sign in Philly and just be hated no matter what you do on the field. Then again, you could sign with Tampa Bay and never be heard from again.
  11. I dropped a hundred last night. plus I got my family grabbing every newspaper they can get their hands on.
  12. QUOTE(Johnny @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) especially for a mayor that is a sox fan, it was probably all setup day one of the season it's probably been set up since his inauguration.
  13. "They did it. They f***ing did it." with fists triumphantly in the air. I dropped a "they gawn" somewhere in there.
  14. I just dumped a load of cash on some new gear. Gotta wear it for all the Sox fans that didn't make it to tonight.
  15. When the Bulls won their first title, didn't a radio station play that song over and over until the rally? p.s., WE WON THE WHOLE f***ING THING!
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) Look under the "Audio" tab. It was Rooney earlier. aah, I knew I was stupid. Thanks, I'm gonna miss Rooney.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) MLB.com/Whitesox.com Here. thanks for the link, but that was Joe Buck. Is Rooney's call up there or am I just missing it?
  18. anybody got it up online?
  19. If it's Monday I'm catching a plane to Midway.
  20. Gentlemen (and ladies)... What a great performance by our Sox in Game 1, let's hope it carries over to Game 2. Seems like some kind of disgusting irony that I will have waited my entire life to see the White Sox in the world series (grew up in the south burbs before moving away to college, then moved up to the north burbs afterward before settling here in Florida) only to have that joy wiped out by a natural disaster. Let's hope not. I live in Naples, Florida, the area currently being targeted by Hurricane Wilma. While I don't anticipate the storm wiping me out -- be it in a personal-safety sense or property wise -- I hope you'll all join me in hoping the people here on Florida's Gulf Coast all the best during this ordeal. This storm won't do the damage Katrina did, it won't be the monster Rita was before it hit land. But it will most likely make life miserable here for the foreseeable future. Maybe it will just disrupt every-day life here by knocking out power (and anybody who has been to South Florida knows how steamy it can be here without A/C). Maybe it will flood homes close to the coast. Maybe it will be wide-spread destruction. I don't know. I'm not a weather guy. But, above all, I hope people in my adopted hometown of Naples come through this OK. Thanks for letting me vent. As Andy the clown would say, Goooooo yooooooou Whiiiiite Sooooooox. And if you ever want to have a beer and watch a Sox/Bears/Bulls game here in gorgeous (but tempermental) Southwest Florida, just lemme know.
  21. QUOTE(wheats @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) I am looking to buy a seat from old comiskey for my dad who grew up a block away from the park. Does anyone know where I might find one? there are a few on ebay.
  22. QUOTE(canes98 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) It's gone from bad to worse for me. Not only was I unable to get tix for game 6 or 7 (had the exact same problems everyone else did), but now there's a hurricane that may hit where I live (Fort Myers) on Saturday night, so I may lose power and not be able to watch game 1 or 2. I think I may have to evacuate to Orlando or however far north it takes to get a hotel room with electricity where I can watch the Sox game on Saturday and not worry about Hurricane Wilma preventing me from watching the Sox. Dude, I live right down the road. If I wasn't working this weekend I'd say we should hit up Stevie's or Pelican Larry's.
  23. my word was "baffling" which I found quite appropriate. I live in Florida and haven't been back to Chicago since a funeral this summer, hardly the best time to catch a Sox game. I probably don't deserve tickets as much as some of you that have been out there supporting the team all season, even when there were plenty of seats to be had. But it just burns my ass when you go on these broker sites and they all have bundles of tickets. It just pisses me off that 99.9 percent of the average joes get locked out. Not that the stadium is big enough to hold everyone who wanted a ticket....
  24. I tried for game 6, got past the word verification, had four minute wait, then nothing available. whoopee. was checking some ticket broker web sites, cheapest I saw was $700 a seat. oh well.
