TIMO! That's my boy! -
http://www.startribune.com/stories/508/5573778.html Enjoyed this piece, except for one thing... He is hitting like Jose Uribe this year, but I'm relatively certain his name is Juan.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) I was thinking that instead of listening to fans and paid talking heads, I'd see what the professionals who are paid to set the odds are thinking, plus what people who will fork over a credit card think. here's one link Seems like either we have a chance, or Sox fans are too generous in their investments. I had a friend of mine place a bet at Wynn's in Vegas back in May. I have the Sox +800 to win it all and +400 to win the AL pennant. Not the best prices, seeing as it would have been many times that had he been in Vegas a month earlier.

is it just me, or does it seem like EVERY DAMN TIME we let a guy on base with an error, he scores?
-
Freddy has been money on the road. Looks like we're in good shape tonight.

Minnesota. First, it would shut up all the AL Central bashers. Second, it would keep either Boston or New York home, and we would get the chance to send the other one packing.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) I'm guessing the sweat suit is for minimum skin exposure??? Yep. Plus we had to have wooden sandal-like contraptions strapped to our shoes because the heat coming from the floor would melt the soles. But those conditions were only for the first couple of days. Eventually it would cool off inside. But the beginning was hellish. Ten minutes in and 20 minutes out. Awful.

I used to work in a steel mill (thank the good Lord I get to push a pencil for a living these days) and when we would do work rebuilding furnaces (obviously they were shut off and ventilated, but still a good 110-120 degrees inside) they made us wear sweat pants, a sweat shirt and long johns (tops and bottoms) as well as your steel-toes, hard hat and dust mask. I'll trade that with under armor on a baseball diamond any day.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Kevin Millar continues to act like a f***ing dips***. Wow, who would have ever guessed his numbers would go down once steroids were banned from the game? I was told a few years ago he was one of the biggest abusers in baseball. Millar is a f*ing scab, anyway. Listen, this team won't get respect until it wins something. Be that sweeping a team like Boston or the Yankees, or a playoff series or whatever. Baseball fans have been conditioned by ESPN, FOX, et al, to put the AL East first. Minnesota never got any respect, either, and the AL West might as well not exist to anyone living east of the mountain time zone. Ultimately, this whole deal will be decided on the field, not by people writing pedestrian columns with poorly argued points. But Kevin Millar said so! Until then, let them disrespect the White Sox. I imagine it will serve as great motivation for Ozzie and crew.

White Sox vs. Red Sox July 24 Game Thread
FLsouthsider replied to YASNY's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I have a buddy of mine in the media and he was at Red Sox spring training this year. He asked Francona about Iguchi, since the Red Sox were one of the teams scouting him. Francona said something to the effect of, we don't think he's an every day player. The Red Sox thought he was a utility infielder at best. Good to see Gooch shove it up their rear ends, especially after what happened Thursday. -
The reason to be so aggressive is to put pressure on the defense, and Ramirez is definitely one guy you need to put the screws to when you get a shot. However, we all know Konerko is s-l-o-w, and his lack of speed takes that it from forcing the defense to make a tough play to forcing the defense to execute a fairly routine one. That ball was hit extremely hard, and any left fielder, including Ramirez, would have thrown out Konerko. It was a bad decision by Cora, but those calls are made on the fly. I was screaming at the TV when it happened, but it didn't come back to bite us in the rear end. We won the game so Joey gets a pass on this one, IMHO.

Career... 9-3, 2.65, 102 IP, 101 Ks http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernaor01.shtml

When you have to start worrying is when "experts" start falling all over themselves and handing things to the Sox based on the team's record. We have a good squad this year, and the team will keep winning games no matter what some schmuck on espn radio says. Besides, I kinda like the underdog role.

Shingo's greatest attribute was his performance in MVP Baseball. I threw him for three innings once, tossing nothing but changeups. My friend made contact once. Anyhoo, I'm onboard with everyone else here wishing Mr. Zero all the best in the future. He was a solid pitcher for us and I'm sure he can help somebody in the National League. Especially when you consider most teams have never seen the frisbee.

GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS
FLsouthsider replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) "I don't know what the people are doing at the game in Cleveland in white sox shirts, because they don't go to the games in Chicago" - Cleveland announcers. Bastards. I was just about to post that. Team gets its ass handed to them on the field, so let's rip on the other team's fans? Classy. Especially from the team 28th in the league in attendance. -
What is your second favorite team in baseball?
FLsouthsider replied to tony72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. White Sox 2. Cardinals 3. Marlins (hey, I live in Florida) 4. Orioles (Ripken was the man) -
QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) Do you remember the "whoomp there it is" chants going down the ramps? No, but I remember the "who let the dogs out" chants on the ramps after beating KC in '03. I was slightly embarrassed for all involved. :puke

What's Herbert Perry doing these days?
-
I live in Florida, and it's a must. It's a tremendous value, IMHO.
-
Leiter is waaaaaay off his game and somewhat uncharacteristically walking guys left and right. I'd stay away from this one, unless we can get him in the announcer's booth.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Actually the wife and I are starting a new project called winetrailsusa.com and we'll be doing a travelogue ezine which will cover many of the unique wine growing areas in the U.S. - other than the obvious ones like Napa Valley. We'll probably touch upon Michigan City when we do SW Michigan, which as you know Mike has a cluster of small wineries and is perfect for a long day trip from Chicago. Too bad that little winery on Rt. 20 closed ... although I believe there is another winery just over the Michigan border in northern Indiana. Are you going to Rocheport, Mo.? The view overlooking the Missouri River there is unbeatable.
-
Also, check out the Negro League Baseball Museum. I haven't been there, but it's supposed to be pretty good.
-
The K is nice, I've been there a few times. Be sure to stop at Gates BBQ at some point. That's some good eating. http://www.gatesbbq.com/ A lot of people prefer Arthur Bryant's. My favorite KC BBQ is a place called Smokestack, but you'd have to look it up in a phone book because I can't remember where the hell it is. :banghead I think there are a few around the city. The only one I can remember is on Wornall. At any rate, order some burnt ends for me. And if you're looking for stuff to do, check out the plaza.

Frank Thomas, circa 1994. 2000 will work, too.

All hail Jeff Suppan.
