QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Who puts pepperonchinis on their beef??? Who doesn't? Hmm, maybe my family's just weird. I'd still trade Sirotka for the beef sandwich, sans pepperoncinis.

well, mike sirotka did have a great couple of years in toronto. hell, we could have traded sirotka for an italian beef with extra pepperoncinis and come out ahead.

Win the games against our divisional opponents, mainly Minnesota and Cleveland, and we're good. I think the first series off the break, especially coming off the Oakland series, is crucial.

The Padres announcers (Matt Vasgersian and some other guy, don't even know if they're still doing Pads games) used to wait until the Pads were down in the ninth and then "switch into Hawk and Wimpy mode" and openly root for them to score. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I 'spose.

What would you do if the Sox won the World Series?
FLsouthsider replied to crash's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd probably just stop following baseball. Probably stop following just about everything because the sky would collapse. -
Anybody know of a site to download some Hawk audio clips?

Jeez, people, relax. It's one game out of 162, and it's not even over yet.

If you buy two, do you get a can of corn?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Yep. Like Jack Armstrong. And how did Cincinnati finish up that season?

I'm saving all my cash to make some trips between Chicago and Florida if/when the Sox make the playoffs. I balked at getting tickets in 2000 (when I still lived in Chicago, figuring we had a shot at an ALCS) and won't make that mistake again. Can I afford to be jet-setting around the country? No. Will I miss the dramatic conclusion to what very well could be the greatest season in team history? HELL NO!

"Smack my b**** up" by Prodigy. Then I'd smack that b**** up. And at the end you would learn that it was a girl the whole time.

My wrist hurts. I'm going on the 15-minute DL.

All I know is scotty better get in this damn game, if I'm gonna give myself carpal tunnel over it.

I guess I shoulda came here first. I just spent a half hour voting for Scotty and Trevor Hoffman. One of my best friends is a Padres freak, and they love them some Hoffman in San Diego.

Mariotti is a gifted writer? Since when? He must have a horribly aligned spine with all the time he spends twisting in the wind. Mariotti is a blowhard, nothing more, nothing less.

Who is the White Sox best offensive player?
FLsouthsider replied to jerseysox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That's the beauty of having a balanced lineup. We have a wealth of guys that can do damage. If I had to single one guy out, I might argue Aaron Rowand or Carl Everett. I know, I'm crazy, but it just seems like these two come up with big hits all the time. But if that's the criteria, you could put together some good arguments for Iguchi and Pierzynski, too. -
Do mine eyes deceive me, or is the author's name Bucky Dent? I though we traded him in like '76?

Twins fans do the darndest things.....

I always thought it was pretty stupid to throw back a baseball. My uncle caught a Harold Baines foul ball one year at the old park and you would have thought he had won the lottery he was so happy. and that's a grown man. I have a friend who was covering Red Sox spring training this spring in Fort Myers. I had him swipe a Red Sox BP ball for me. I gave it to my nephew, but being 15 months old he just tried to eat it. -
Last player in MLB you would get in a fight with..

jose guillen. that guy is nuts. -
I had a buddy of mine make my annual crap-away-$50 bet in vegas and put some money on the sox. unfortunately, he didn't make it out there until mid-May. I got the Sox at +800 (8:1) to win the series and +400 to win the AL pennant. That's a pretty short price for a team no one gave a snowball's chance of winning the AL central before the season started.

I guess El Caballo is happy being under .500

Carlos gave us some great years. As long as he's crushing pitchers in the NL, I'm happy for him. I hope he does well. There's a guy at work (he's a Marlins fan, hey, I live in Florida), and he likes to give me crap about the Lee for Pods trade. My standard response is, have you looked at the standings lately? Seems like we did alright. It's not like we traded Kip Wells for Todd Ritchie or anything. Oh, wait. -
I think it was 1987, the year Minnesota won the World Series, and I was 8 years old. Growing up, my dad was a Cubs fan (still is), but thankfully my mom was the voice of reason, and came from a Sox family. (I remember when we visited Cooperstown when I was 14 or 15 and I wore my Sox hat, my dad wore his Cubs hat. This guy, both he and his son were wearing Yankees hats, walked up to us and said, 'How in the world did that happen?' ) Anyway, I grew up in the south burbs and my dad despised going into the city, so he never ventured deep into the urban jungle of wrigleyville. when we went to ballgames, it was always sox park -- relatively easy to get to because of the ryan. I remember being at the old park for (I think) a sunday afternoon game that season against the Twins. The only real detail I remember was Tim Laudner, the old catcher and alumnus of what turned out to be my college alma mater, hit a grand slam. I was soooooo pissed. I think in all, we went to the old park about six or seven times. I remember the sticky floors, the troughs in the bathrooms, the beams blocking half the cheap seats. that urine smell permeating throughout the structure. But for all its drawbacks, you can't really compete with that amazing view when you made it through those cramped concourses and got that first look at the field. All I have to say is, pitch to fisk at your risk.

It's a little early to declare Lee a bust in Milwaukee. Besides, Carlos gave us some great years. No need to hate on him now that he's gone.
