QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) Yes. Not being able to post on Soxtalk will mean my whole interwebs + tv + cell phone will die. You have won. If it means anything, I'm cool with it. It was a pretty stupid comment on my part.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) Anyone else notice that Vinny Del Negro has another NBA head coaching job? You've gotta figure that this really makes the Clips a contender for LeBron. Obviously, their management is serious about winning. Ha... that was fun to type. Seriously, is there any other place he could wind up? We should all have guessed it...

For what it's worth (and historically its been worth a lot), the Intrade prediction markets are surging for Cleveland and collapsing for Chicago.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) What the f*** does that mean? A new start? Going pro in a real town? If you're in Cleveland, you don't need to do this stuff. If you're planning to dart to a big city, you do.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) PDcavsinsider Suddenly it is clear to me. LeBron has changed. A new website. Starting Twitter. This announcement. This isn't the guy I know. 2 minutes ago via web Somewhere out there, I picture a grumpy Brett Favre jealously following the news... pissed off that his PR team didn't come up with this first.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) i honestly think lebron can win a championship there....people can go ahead and laugh at me, but that cleveland roster without lebron is roughly a 35 win team IMO...the knicks won 29 last year and are adding Amare....now clearly its not as likely as if he was a bull, but I honestly think no matter what team lebron plays for, they are instantly conference champion contenders David lee, a 20/11 guy, will be gone. I'm not saying he's as good as Stoudemire - but it's not as far fetched as you think. Amare averaged 23 ppg last year on a team that had Steve Nash ag PG and lead the league in scoring with 110 points per game and. David Lee averaged 20 ppg on a team that had Chris Duhon at PG and averaged 102 per game. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if David Lee comes to Chicago. If there's any team in HISTORY that suffers from exaggerated numbers, its the Phoenix suns of the last 5 years.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) theres no definitive answer as to who is the 3rd best qb (or even the top 2 in the league frankly)...does Rivers have the ability to be the best QB in the league? I certainly wouldn't be surprised if is the best qb this year. That said, can tony romo or ben roethlisberger have better years than Rivers this year? Certainly. Personally, i'd like to see Rivers repeat his year last year before I annoint him as the best of the non-Manning Brady QBs, but certainly I'll admit he might be. Warner has a terrific body of work for his career, but does that mean hes a top 3 or 4 QB in the league right now? I doubt it. Its really hard to compare Kurt Warner to Phillip Rivers because one is past his prime, the other is in the heart of it. For me I break up the list as follows, and in order of how I perceive their abilities. Established guys still in their primes, but on the downside Manning Brady Brees Warner McNabb (maybe he slides ahead of warner) The Up and Comers hitting/just in their primes Rivers Cutler Roethlisberger (IMO he's given too much credit ....been on great, great teams with good recievers, running games, defenses) Eli Romo Now for 2009-2010, who will be the best? It could be any single one of those guys....and matt ryan probably should be thrown into the mix as well. It isn't until after guys careers are over that we are able to say who the better player was, simply because the NFL season is too short, and too much variability occurs year to year in only 16 games. Back in the mid 90s when guys like Favre, Aikman, Marino, Elway, and Young were in the league (and even Montana at the end)...it was impossible at the time to say who the best was, but now looking back I think its much easier to come up with a logical and more accurate ranking You're completely wrong. Here's a list of the elite qbs in the league: 1) Jay Cutler That's it... that's the list. Everyone else is crap. IActually, I would probably say that Cutler, Rivers and (gulp) Aaron Rodgers are your three top young qbs. Romo, Eli, and Roethlisberger all have better playoff pedigrees - but (for some reason) I'd rather have the former three qbs than the latter. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) I've never practiced bankruptcy law, but trying to remember back to my law school class, I believe a judge can deny it pretty early in the process if she thinks it's an obvious attempt to abuse the system. Bankruptcy judges are usually hard asses It's not an abuse of the bankruptcy court at all. In fact, it's an incredibly smart move probably concocted by somebody's savvy legal counsel. What's important to understand is that the Cubs and the Tribune Company are entirely different corporations. Even if the Tribune is the largest single shareholder, the two are simply not the same at all. The cubs are considering a "pre-packaged bankruptcy." A prepack is completely different from an ordinary bankruptcy. This is not a situation where the Cubs are not paying their loans or have massive legal liabilities. In a prepack, the debtor (the cubs) will work out debt repayment obligations with its creditors (usually banks, trade creditors, etc.). The whole thing is handled by agreement. The Chapter 11 Bankruptcy process then forces anyone with a claim against the Cubs to get in line for payment. If these creditors appear in court, they can object to or stop the bankruptcy process and seek payment of their claims. If no one appears (which is likely), then any debts are wiped out. The Tribune Company had huge liabilities. I'm sure Rickets is concerned about other legal issues developing down the road. Speculating on what those liabilities could be is very very difficult and unreliable - but in legal parlance, they generally focus on very difficult (but potentially huge liabilities) arising from failing to maintain corporate formalities, alter ego legal theories, unrecorded liens, etc. I'm completely speculating here because there's no way for me to know what type of claim the company could face. In an ordinary merger situation, Tribune company might defend and indemnify against these liabilities by contract in the merger agreement. Since Tribco is pretty much worthless, that indemnity has no value. Consequently, the prudent course would be to simply prepack the Cubs, cleanse the company of any unknown/illegitimate claims, and move on. I hate the cubs as much as anyone. - but this is hardly an abuse of the system. In fact, it actually promotes capital investment in America because without this mechanism, many investors would be skiddish and avoid even the slightest litigation risk.

About a week ago, two Cardinals fans, innocently crossing the street after a Phillies-Cardinals, game were plowed over by an 18 year old kid driving a lexus. One woman (a mother) died and the other is suffering from serious brain swelling and potentially long-term injuries. The kid who hit this people initially said that the women "jumped in front of his car." Well, his myspace page is out there... and it turns out this kid is a royal punk. This from the Philadelphia weekly (warning: it will make you irate): Now his idiot friends are coming to his defense on the myspace page. It can be found at: http://www.myspace.com/JoE_BoNeS
