QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 04:59 AM) Kenny HAD to fortify the bullpen. Sure, but he didn't have to do it for the money he did.
-
Well, Borowski certainly sucks. Maybe Kenny wasn't so crazy to spend some extra money fortifying the bullpen in a division where Borowski and Todd Jones are two of the closers.

Swisher has done nothing this year to suggest he isn't a "proven" leadoff hitter. Unless Kenny can somehow get Roberts, moving Swisher even if Owens comes back seems like a bad move. -

You guys are looking at this wrong. This is the right situation, having half of your lineup slumping while the other half is hitting. There'll be plenty of games where Thome-Konerko carry us while AJ-Crede-Uribe are scuffling. It's better this way. -

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) And you're absolutely right about Farmer/Stone. I'll be hitting the mute button on the TV and playing the radio cast over the Web this season. As an out-of-area Sox fan, I wish there was a way to watch the MLB.TV broadcast while listening to Farmer/Stone. So far all the TV announcers have been horrible. -
QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) wHAT do we do with Quentin when Owens comes back? Trade Dye for a pitcher, stick BA in CF, keep Owens as pinch runner/4th OF.
-
Can we trade Dye for a pitcher now?
-
Just curious, say Anderson gets the CF job, who do people envision hitting leadoff? Cabrera-Swisher at 1-2 would be fine with me if BA turns the corner this year, which is really the best case scenario for this year.

Maybe some of you will like this one better: How to Heckle the Cubs
-
Until someone overtakes Uribe as 2nd baseman, where it looks like he's going to be playing, then the Uribe signing AND Cabrera trade should be off everyone's "worst" list.

Don't mean to spam, but thought that some of you might enjoy this Guide to Heckling the Angels, for any of the other Southern California Chi-Sox fans out there: The Heckler's Prospectus

I'm firmly in Kalapse's camp on this one. "Leadoff hitters" are overrated. Cabrera and Swisher will do just fine up there with the roster currently organized as it is.

Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
rcpweiner replied to DBAHO's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
The responses to this thread makes me wonder if perhaps we should open up talks with the Braves to see if they'll take AJP for McCann, straight-up? I mean, there's no way we're getting Cain, right? -
So, I guess here's an example of a deal that "leaked" before it was official. One of the very few under Kenny.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 13, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) It's finally nice to see others instead of myself and a few posters who actually like Danks. I'm expecting a pretty decent/solid season from the soon to be 23 year old. I still think the reason you get another pitcher is more for the question marks of Contreras and Floyd rather than sending Danks down. In an ideal world, Danks should be Sharpie-markered into the number 4 spot and Contreras and Floyd left to duke it out for number 5.

RE: Rosenthal Do this trade right now, Angels and White Sox: Crede for E. Santana. Please.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) However, something would have to be done about leadoff... While this post might not be the greatest example -- since the loss of Konerko would mean a hole in our 3-4-5 -- why are people against Cabrera and Swisher going 1-2? We don't NEED a leadoff guy. I think O-Cab is more than decent to handle the leadoff spot, and Swisher and his OBP can handle the 2-hole easily. In your lineup, pushing those two up and moving GMJ to 5 would be my ideal lineup. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) Crede and Santana is what they call "crap for crap". Done. Kenny, make this move!

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
rcpweiner replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For those on the fence, here's BP's take: -
For the above lineup, it might not even be out of the question to swap Figgins in at 2B and stick Owens in the lineup at CF instead of Richar. Richar seems like he's headed in the wrong direction (unless I read those Winter League stats wrong). Getting Figgins or Willits and Saunders/Santana seems low for Konerko. Unless Kendrick's involved in the deal, I don't know if it makes much sense. I mean, just look at the above lineup with Figgens/Willits. Is that really ebtter than the lineup we have now WITH Konerko. Why is everyone so against leading off with Cabrera and putting Swisher in the two-hole?

The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal
rcpweiner replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a good move, right? We didn't have to give up anyone for Coco Crisp or Pierre, didn't have to go the Lofton route, and get a nice presumably-young player who will help out this year and beyond. If he needs time in the minors, sticking BA, Sweeney or Owens in CF isn't the end of the world. Plus, Ramirez offers insurance for Richar and a nice option once O-Cab leaves next year (if his ability to play 2B and SS is true). Now ... doesn't anyone have any projections? God, I hope he's not really 47 years old. -
