  1. Don't mean to spam, but thought you all might enjoy this little piece about the seven completely illogical and probably illegal ways to fix the White Sox.
  2. Hell, if the Sox can put together a package to get Crawford, you do it. I don't care if you trade everyone away so you have to start Brian Anderson at CF and sign David Wells for a year as 5th starter ... you DO IT! (Well, maybe not the Wells thing.)
  3. If you don't read this book, YOU'RE a fair weather fan!
  4. I can't believe Weaver's still out there. I'd take him as a 5th starter in a heartbeat, depending on the money, of course. What's a reasonable deal? I have no idea in this crazy market.
  5. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) Can you imagine if Contreras goes on the DL and we have a rotation of: Buehrle Garland Vazquez Haeger Floyd What about this: What if Contreras is still on the DL, and Buehrle and Garland get into a street fight with some Cubs fans who called their mom fat or something, and Vazquez visits Super K-Mart and gets lost in their many aisles (forcing him to miss most of the season)? Then we have a rotation of: Haeger Floyd Danks Gonzalez Sisco (?) Ugh. That is going to be one rough year. Why doesn't Kenny plan for this?!?!?!?! WaaaaahhhhhhhH!!!!!!
  6. Wow. There's a lot of you ready to jump ship, it seems. This from Baseball Prospectus might bring you off the ledge momentarily: Me personally? I like it. I don't know much about Danks & Company, but I never understood the McCarthy fanboys. He was good in 2005, decent in 2006, but he wasn't the Almighty White Sox Savior or anything. Maybe it was just because he was the first decent homegrown pitching prospect since Buerhle/Garland that has all of your panties in multiple knots. 7 stud prospects for one pitching spot? I kind of like that. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) Let's see: So as you can see, Kenny has more than a proven history of coming through on trades the last few years. For now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. And don't forget David Wells for Mike Sirotka, which we technically won. See? Even his bad moves are good moves!
  7. Bodog.com has the White Sox at 8/1 to win the World Series next year. That is 4th lowest odds, behind the New Yorks and BoSox. Link
  8. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) As for speed and defense IF he is somewhat healthy which I am not sure of, he is a better leftfielder than Pods. You're joking, right? An arm has less to do with defense than overall speed. Bonds is barely better than ManRam out there. Taking all feelings of Bonds aside, I just don't know if it's the right move for the team from a stats standpoint. There's no way to think he'll be completely healthy all year, so do you platoon out in LF with Pods? That's a strange platoon for Ozzie to deal with. Of course, this all presupposes that he's going to cost $10 million+ a year. The team that made the most sense for him to land on was the Tigers (as their DH, really the only position he should be playing), but now that they have Sheffield, I think the Yanks make sense for him.
  9. From Baseball Prospectus' new "Unfiltered" regularly updated blog-esque feature:
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I'd like Manny on this team but for Brandon they can stick it. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what McCarthy has done in his career for people to think he's untouchable ...
  11. I'd also do that immediately. I'm still completely puzzled by everyone so high on McCarthy. He's a good pitcher, a nice 3-5 starter in the next few years, but I don't think he's got the stuff to be a top-tier kind of guy down the road. I mean, we're talking about a guy with a 4.17 ERA and 34Ks in 54 innings. And while those aren't the most important stats around, he just isn't a guy who blows anyone away. It's not like he's Kazmir or Liriano. Hell, he might not even be Boof Bonser. I'm not saying he's bad, or he's going to be a bad pitcher, but my feeling is that everyone here is overrating his value simply because he's "home grown". If you can get A-Jones for him straight up, I say go ahead.
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) the reason why pods isn't in the lineup is because the trade is official I'd like to believe that, but the Nats are playing Soriano tonight.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) YES! That is if we can sign him to an extension. If not, is he worth the rental? I'd still say yes. (Also, I think Pods/Fields for Soriano probably isn't enough to get the deal done. Maybe another prospect or two ...)
  14. Well then ... Pods and Fields for Soriano? Yes or no, everybody?
  15. I think that everyone's forgetting something: You HAVE to win this year, what with World War 3 coming and all ...
  16. QUOTE(TheHolyBovine @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) He's 23 and in AA, so he's not exactly young for his level. That says a lot right there.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Just throwing this out there: Pods and McCarthy for Soriano.... Yes or no? Yes. Although I'd like to get a decent prospect back from the Nats too. Not a top-level, but not a bottom-of-the-barrel type. Also, if Soriano doesn't come back next year, would brining up Fields and sticking him in LF be a possibility for next year?
  18. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) So, because our pitching has faltered we're adopting the 2004 Red Sox position of clubbing another team to death? Uh. If we're following the 2004 Red Sox line of thinking, I'm fine with that. You know, since they won the World Series and all ...
  19. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Seriously, people think we're getting rid of Anderson AND Pods and moving Mack into center? Yeah, I don't know where all of this speculation is from? Right now the only thing we can evaluate is the MacDougal trade, since it's "official". Everything else people are getting angry at is pure speculation. Why don't you guys trust Kenny yet? What must he need to do to earn the benefit of the doubt?
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) It would make Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen two of the biggest hypocrites in the history of professional sports after spending the past few seasons preaching great team defense and strong pitching. Talk about a crock. Wah, wah, wah. They preached defense and strong pitching last year, and won it all. This year things (say, pitching not being nearly as strong as last year) and they feel they have to adapt a bit. Why do you fear change so much? Not every team wins with pitching and defense. Some teams are made for that, some aren't. And, as the poor starts by Mark, Javy and Freddy pile up, maybe this year's version isn't made for the type of pitching and defense that last year's was. We're in 2006 here. Change isn't a bad thing. Flip-flopping is, in some cases, good.
  21. I have a feeling that, if we get Soriano, either him or Pods are getting flipped to someone else.
  22. Anyone who's pissed about trading prospects ... can someone name the last one we got burned with trading? There's no Liriano's or Bagwell's in Kenny's past. I'll paraphrase Allen Iverson here: "Prospects. We're talking about prospects here. Prospects. Prospects, man. Prospects. Prospects. We're talking about prospects here."
  23. Great, with all of this voting I can say goodbye to masturbating tonight. Thanks a lot, A.J.
  24. QUOTE(knightni @ May 24, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) Interesting to note: I sat next to a guy at Monday's game who was wearing a Barcelo jersey. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) At that same game, I saw a guy wearing a Jamie Burke jersey. Maybe those two were together? You guys sure those two weren't the real Lorenzo Barcelo and Jamie Burke? It's not like they're too busy to attend a ballgame or something ...
  25. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ May 22, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) You always get the feel that TK is exactly what he is on TV.... He's never a phoney... Its one reason I've always really liked him as a sportscaster. Indeed. Bring on Monday Night Football!
