  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) What have they done lately? When was the last time they had one of their own prospects that they groomed for years come up to the bigs? What has a $200 million dollar payroll done for them? Getting to the playoffs, what, the past how many years in a row? That's what they've done lately. Look. Right now we're sitting pretty with a championship and all. But we're not even NEAR the Yankees class yet. We're on our way (especially with this lastest flurry of trades), but we need a few more playoffs in a row to even be considered in the top-tier of baseball teams.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) = Spankee's Way of Doing Things.....we do not want to be the Spankees. You mean we don't want to emulate the most successful baseball franchise ever? Yeah. You're right! f*** success!
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Holy f***ing s***. What the hell is KW doign to the bullpen? Getting rid of the worst parts of it for better players?
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Chris Young for Javier Vazquez is one sided enough. We have 5 starters without Vazquez, and we throw in our best prospect for a 6th. Then, we threw in two other pitchers. It doesn't make sense to me unless Garland is already being dealt elsewhere. Plus, Vazquez is not that good of a groundball pitcher.. the balls will be flying out of US Cellular Field. No, the biggest thing we gave up for Thome is Gio and Haigwood, our best lefty pitching prospects. And what does it matter if he's a future HOF? We are talking about how he will do next year, not how his career has been. You, sir, are retarded. Do you honestly think we'd be better off without making either of those deals? Meaning that, first off, we pretty much lose Konerko to the Angels because he doesn't get the chance to play with his idol. Thusly, our best hitter is Carl Everett (if we sign him) and maybe Frank (if he's healthy, which is a bigger risk than Thome). And instead of Javy as currently our number 5 pitcher (giving the Sox the best rotation in baseball), we throw McCarthy out to the wolves. And while he has shown he should be able to handle it, Jon Rauch and Danny Wright were can't-miss prospects as well. Same thing with Joe Borchard. A prospect is just that: a prospect. If the game was about winning Triple-A championships, then I'd be upset. But it's not. It's about putting together the best team in the majors. And since the Sox have a unique window of opportunity right now to go on a nice run, it's worth risking the POSSIBILITY of these guys being future stars in order to get proven talent. Winning Now = More Attendance = More Money = Bigger Budget = More Free Agents Signing Here = Less Need For Minor League Projects = Winning More
  5. Are there any other reports on this possible deal besides a small blurb from Bruce?
  6. Final words on the subject from me: In Kenny We Trust.
  7. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) The previous team to repeat was the Yankees. They pretty much kept the core of there rotation together. I think even with this trade (hell, go ahead and throw the Crawford trade in the mix too) we pretty have the same "core" of our team. This isn't a dramatic change like last off-season, when we turned over 5/9 of our lineup.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) IMO he also didn't let things rattle him as much as they use to. If something questionable happened behind him defensively he would totally lose it for an inning or two. This year he didn't do that. I'd say this is more in line with what I meant. Before this year, whenever something happened behind him, he went all Alou/Prior and caved in. This year, with that stud D behind him, he was more relaxed. That, or he was taking many more sedatives before the game.
  9. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The only reason Jon-Jon had a career year last year was the vastly improved defense. By the team not giving up extra outs, Jon was able to stay away from those huge innings he gave up in years past. That being said, the defense will still be solid next year, even with the subtraction of Rowand from CF, meaning Jon will be a stud pitcher again next year. But if he gets shipped off to the D-Backs, I doubt he'll be as successful. Overall, I like the trade. Sure, the "Jon not willing to sign long-term" is a reason. But its mostly because I have a massive hard-on for Javy and those damn K's of his. Most likely, because he led my fantasy team to a championship that stud season of his years ago.
  10. Hey folks, Just thought you guys might like this little Q&A article I got up over at McSweeney's, since it's focus is the ChiSox and all. Enjoy.

  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Actually...it's still possible for you to hope that it's the last (at least for this season). The Bulls did the same thing in 91...lose the first game, then snap out of it and take the next 4...thereby never getting back to Chicago. Oh, they'll be back. Except then it'll be game one of the World Series.
  13. Has anyone else had a boner for the past 4 days? No? *slowly backs away*
  14. Especially love the Belichick comparisons ... (towards the top of the More Cowbell section; not much, but something) More Cowbell
  15. Got mine on ebay for Game 3 to see Jon-Jon pitch on 73 days rest for $110. Where's the tailgate?
  16. Does Duque stay in? I mean ... he's used to throwing a s***load of pitches and hasn't slowed down?
  17. So wait, IF we get to the next round can we drop Marte's ass for McCarthy?
  18. Is it me, or does it not even have the atmosphere of a playoff game over there? I mean ... it's like everyone's about to take a nice afternoon nap. I'm not complaining, if anything it benefits the White Sox. Just saying ...
  19. Wow. For a guy that has been ripping him all season, I'm glad to see you make this post. Well done. Although I, for one, was completely against the move when he was brought back out in the 9th. But now. Wow. Jenks really proved to me he could be a stud closer all next year. K-Rod-esque.
  20. QUOTE(kman @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Dude thats not kewl Just stating the facts. Especially since the Knicks are going to play him WITHOUT undergoing a DNA test. I mean ... doesn't that make them huge assholes? Is it just me? Aren't they acting kind of Satanic?
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) How disappointing is that news! Did you see what we got him? Jesus! They gave up a whole lot for a player who might die in mid-game.
  22. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) 11.30PM 2nd job interview tommorow. Like you'll be able to sleep anyway. You'll keep on tossing and turning until you know FOR SURE this one's in the books.
  23. Could anyone give a recap of what the PTI guys said about it?
  24. Who cares about Pinella? The real news is that The Zim is freed up to park his juicy ass at the end of the Sox bench. Boo-freakin-ya!
