  1. This has me tremendously excited. As excited as I've been since the start of the Covid year season. So, tell me, it seems like the perfect storm to get a half private, half public stadium built in an awesome setting -- why is it just now being talked about? Is this really viable? It sounds too good to be true, honestly. The Sox playing in an intimate, modern stadium in a neighborhood well served by transit with plenty of room for organic growth around the new park? Get it done!
  2. His "cancer" was turning from a 4-5 WAR player into a .5-1.5 WAR player. Is he a "good" club house guy? Probably not, but in a winning team, he's just another cog.
  3. Given we aren't contending for anything but the cellar of the division, and it's *just* money there's almost no reason not to sign him as a flip candidate. So it won't happen.
  4. I'm guessing he either gets 2/15 or 1/10. Not much value in a projected 1 WAR player. Ironically this off-season TA free agency is exactly the type of dumpster dive signing the Sox have always loved.
  5. Dude, just take the contrary bone out of your mouth: stop chewing on it, it's bad for oral health. It's a salary dump. Haniger is a busted down shell of himself. They were on the cusp of winning the division (after a mid offseason which in part created their slow start) and then at the trade deadline made a couple minor, timid moves again. And now? They already traded away their starting RF and 3B. They are clearing salary for Ohtani I guess. Oh wait... I've said it since I moved out here a decade ago: these two franchises, Seattle and the Sox, are two sides of the same coin. The similarities are remarkable.
  6. Luis Robert and Julio deserve better.
  7. Salary dumps and shitty minor moves. Mariners and White Sox franchises:
  8. Why does it look like they are in Wrigleyville in the photo?
  9. I don't know. I'm not gonna pretend to be following close enough to know. How any anybody really? Younger fans I guess. At this point in my fandom it's "show me" time. Talk and new hirings are just that. I wasn't trying to be overly snarky when I replied to Harold that I've been hearing about a "new tune" on the South Side for 35 years now. But I keep hearing the same music, ya know?
  10. Ironically ownership and management seems to believe that you can turn 50 cents into a dollar at the MLB level but that you can't turn 25 cents into 50 at the scouting and development level. I'm not saying we have to be the Rays or Dodgers but I'd settle for being like Cleveland, who at least can consistently produce pitching. I just saw that ZIPS thinks the Guardians have 18 pitchers (!) projected for an ERA+ of 100 or better. Do we have 4?
  11. Not asking for a Steve Cohen, but someone willing to spend on the little things that add up like foreign scouting, domestic scouting, minor league instructional staff, analytics department, and so on. We don't need a 200 million dollar payroll but we can't continue to be penny smart but pound foolish.
  12. There's a lot of billionaires that want the prestige of a winning sports franchise. We just need to find one.
  13. I was briefly on his softball team in NYC. Nice guy, but I think he's been mailing it on with his writing for about a decade now, since Deadspin went belly up.
  14. I've heard some version of this for 35 years.
  15. Drafting and scouting is obviously incredibly hard but if you're going to draft players that are gonna rely on one really loud tool you sure as s%*# better be right more often than not. Hindsight, but that's why the Colson pick was so good. He has a foundation of tools, not just the traditional ones, but also strike zone management and overall athletic profile.
  16. And she'll like it too [that he's not dead]!
  17. I gotta give Getz some credit, he's making moves that I don't think Hahn would, especially at the lower levels.
  18. To me the Grandal signing had almost nothing to do with Narvaez, or the catching situation in general. This is all basically fan casting but to me, as a long time Sox fan, signing Grandal was in response to the prior offseason, where they failed to sign Harper and Manny and simply needed to "make a splash" -- at any position. Grandal just happened to be the guy, position was secondary. They signed him on November 29th of that offseason. Hahn was ITCHING to bring in someone after the prior offseason's failure.
  19. Cocky Orioles fans naming their price. What a time to be alive.
  20. He will grease the right palms in the Dominican. From what I have read young teenage girls are often used as dowry, or if not often is at least still in off putting practice in the Dominican. So not in any way excusing his actions but he will probably not face jail time imo. As for MLB or US punishment? Who knows.
  21. I'm not sure what trading Omar has to do with signing Grandal. Omar isn't a full time catcher and is now below replacement, just like Grandal. I think the problem is more finding good players than letting JAGs like Omar go.
  22. They probably are, but Trayce's back was "gone" too and he managed to put up a few productive half seasons. Lewis is a guy we'd hope to flip and otherwise just DFA if he stinks. He's the type of guy you sign to this deal, not Maldonado.
