  1. No s%*#. Some fucking nobody like Grifol isn't motivating a young athlete. I'd laugh in his loser face.
  2. The players aren't dumb. They all know that they work for arguably the worst franchise in baseball. That cannot be good for players in the position of Colas. Colas' people are no doubt telling him that idiots are handling him and that the faster he gets out of Chicago the better. I'd assume most of the players in the org feel that way.
  3. To do what exactly? He's already learned all he can learn at AAA.
  4. Not sure it's holding him accountable as much as a misguided attempt at it. Holding him accountable can look like starting him for 18 more games in MLB and then putting together an offseason that leads to some success. Sox have zero chance of that however.
  5. Eh, that can all be true, and probably all is, but that doesn't eliminate poor scouting. Poor scouting of work habits, poor scouting of overall athletic profile, poor scouting of overall suitability for a MLB position. Andrew Vaughn is a great example of all that.
  6. There's quite a few players the Sox have cast away as a finished product that were not exactly finished products. As we've said a million times it's a coaching and scouting issue. We have god awful MLB scouting and god awful coaching throughout the entire org.
  7. So far my (granted limited) impression of Getz is that he's unprepared and isn't interested in accountability. He's talking like he hasn't been part and parcel of the s%*# product we've seen throughout the org.
  8. Sadly the Sox will become like the Detroit Lions were for me during the Millen to Patricia regimes, which was just something I followed mostly to laugh and shake my head. As a huge Lions fan growing up the team just became so painfully awful year after year after year that there was absolutely no point in fandom. Once you get into your 30s your teams really do need to be good once and awhile. When you're younger hope can sustain your fandom but that runs out after awhile. I'm not going to follow the Sox' offseason. I'm not going to bother with a spring training trip or buying tickets for when they come out here. I'll just follow them at arm's length like I did the Lions and if they ever get new management (like the Lions) that proves they know a little about winning I'll start following more closely again. It's not being a bandwagon fan it's just realizing that rooting for a bottom 1/3 club for a decade isn't rewarding, and in some cases can actively impact your real life attitude -- that's when it gets too much. Getting angry or sad about these sad sack franchises just isn't it.
  9. Detroit style is great. We're doing a college reunion out here next weekend and my buddy from detroit has promised to make his home made detroit style pizza from scratch for us drunks. Can't fucking wait. It's the best of deep dish but with the crispness of a good NYC style.
  10. He has .4 fWAR. His wRC is 106. he has almost 1500 MLB PA and his career fWAR is -.4. He's not good and he's part of the problem. A guy we were counting on to be a star isn't even an average regular.
  11. The Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros to win the 2005 World Series. Game 2 was won on a walk-off home run by Scott Podsednik. Immediately before the home run, broadcaster Joe Buck asked his fellow broadcaster Tim McCarver a question that indicated Astros closer Brad Lidge might have the bad taste of an Albert Pujols home run in his mouth. McCarver said, “I don't think that taste is there,” and Podsednik promptly smacked the game-winner.
  12. I'd say he's a victim of the peter principle, but that would require being qualified for the job he was already doing.
  13. I'd take my chances with Mitch as owner over JR.
  14. An 87 year old, in charge of a failing enterprise, that is the JOKE of all pro baseball for a month running, making a joke about a fellow octogenarian's declining facilities. IS THIS REAL LIFE?
  15. That rapist can GTFO. So can Super Joe.
  16. You know when you get into middle age, and you're at a bar, and it looks dingy, slightly stinks of old cigs and stale beer, everybody has a bit of a gut, some gray hair maybe, and you look around and think "can't be me, can it"? That entire press conference reminded me of that. A bunch of mediocrity doing the least while looking around at each other wondering if this is life.
  17. that's about where I'm at. Last time I bothered to go to a game was 2019 and I haven't put a game on since June. Why bother? It's a dead end club. I'm not going to magically fall in love with another team, that's just not how it works, but for now I'm not really a Sox fan either.
  18. What did us poor White Sox fans do to deserve this fate? Did they build new Comiskey on an indian mound?
  19. What a joke. Separate your personal feelings from your professional obligations. He also was talking about how "dominant" the 2005 club was, when in hindsight it was an extremely lucky club that used 100 years worth of saved up pixie dust to win the WS. It was so extraordinary because it was one of the few times in the history of the franchise where they managed to not underachieve, in a year with really no expectations as well. Wow, good job! The Sox have conditioned their fans to expect nothing, so simply not sucking is celebrated, I guess, and if you get lucky and go on a WS run with incredible pitching health and once a career performances from half your staff, you get a lifetime pass from losers like Merkin I guess. 2005 was 18 fucking years ago. We've had one division title and what, two playoff appearances? So we're 1/9 fielding a half way decent club, in a terrible division (that had unbalanced schedule the entire time) in the wildcard and now 2nd wildcard era. That's pathetic. There's nothing "bittersweet" about it, it's all bitter. 2005 might as well be 1985 imo.
  20. has Jay Mariotti chimed in yet? This is his superbowl/christmas/bday all in one.
