  1. First game I have sat and watched in a minute with Sox broadcast and Jason is really mailing it in this season huh.
  2. You could see it in the projections. The true talent level of half the starting position players went from something like 3-5 projected WAR closer to 1. This goes for TA, Moncada, Eloy, Vaughn etc. On the pitching side Kopech and Fat Boy are basically 1 WAR players instead of 3. Hell Nick Madrigal at one point was projected to be a 2.5 WAR player. We now have replaced that expectation with a likely zero WAR player in Andrus, or even negative. Oh look, there's about 15 wins less just in those players listed. Somehow, the pitching staff papered over a lot of the issues with the position players last year. That isn't happening so far this year and that's why we are on pace to lose 100 games.
  3. I've had sharts more pleasant than the start of this season.
  4. Why for such a s%*# team have we so many new asshats here on the forum?
  5. Imma need you to combine soxtalk expert weatherman with soxtalk schedule expert to give me odds on this one getting in. Thanks.
  6. Jesus Christ. One thing I've always thought is what does it say about the man if he's so easily falling into "love" with such a shallow character? You played yourself buddy. He really needs to shut up and pitch.
  7. It's gonna suck for us when we are 10 games back in early June. Twins are obliterating the Yanks. We'll be lucky to score 11 runs (they have 11 in 4 innings) over our next three games.
  8. I can't comment on that as I never paid any attention to him really prior to being a Sox. But when he signed I looked at his stats and basically figured he'd be a 1.5 WAR to 3 WAR player with a small chance he'd be replacement level in any given year. His BABIP drives his line and as you and others have noted he has little power, so that puts more pressure on his BABIP, which is pretty variable even for good hitters. Knowing our luck, he'll have a 1 WAR year. I'd chalk it up to "luck" but given that pretty much every mediocre average regular type vet that's signed here over the last decade has under-performed the back of their baseball card imma say it's more than just bad luck and more like bad MLB scouting and bad coaching.
  9. We'd rather sign 1.5 WAR players to "value deals" then sign actual good players to "expensive deals'".
  10. There's a very good chance that Giolito, Anderson and Hendricks are gone by the deadline with the team already 10 under .500. Remove 4-6 WAR and you can see 72-90 pretty easily. 82 was the projection by most systems. We've already gone 5-8. What sounds more likely, we play 21 over from this point out to go 90-72, or we are 15 under rest of the way for 72-90? I sure know which one I'd bet on given even odds.
  11. We'll be lucky to draw 20k at most. There's no juice around the Sox anymore. It's just one anecdote but out here a few years ago I was seeing ALOT of Sox gear. Hats, even jerseys. I don't see any of that anymore. We were a hot team for about a calendar year or so.
  12. Madrigal having a pretty nice start to his year. I didn't really like the kid but it sure would have been nice to turn that asset into something better than AJ Pollock for a year.
  13. Same fucking problems as last year. 1) Lack of power 2) lack of defense, especially playing DH types in the field too often 3) can't hit RHP 4) Injuries Hahn has done an absolutely terrible job addressing our weaknesses. Hope is not a strategy.
  14. I wanted to believe but when the projections came out and it was basically 82 wins, I sorta shrugged and said yea, sounds about right. We just don't have any depth and guys like Moncada are not superstars like we hoped. We have some good players, but not enough superstars to paper over all our holes.
