  1. The Sox breaking dubious records and setting new standards of incompetence is when preparation meets opportunity.
  2. JR's lame ass is trending on twitter. I feel sorry for kids in Chicago man trying to come up as sox fans. this is not what us 30-55 or so folks aged knew as the product, as insufferable as JR was otherwise. This is unfathomable levels of bad.
  3. We must have some of the worst scouts in MLB because most of this forum saw one game of his and knew he was s%*#. I mean I took one look at his statcast and confirmed it in his first AB as well. He's a slap hitter with some speed that has no defensive position. What are we doing here? He's a utility guy at best.
  4. getting swept by detroit doesn't even register as a bottom imo. it's just a death march towards the post WW2 loss record at this point.
  5. andrew vaughn is a staggering -66.7 runs below average in his 4 years playing "defense".
  6. Apples oranges. Teams sports are clearly different. A lot of the skills in team sports, especially at the middle and HS level, are applicable across them, including leadership, playing withing a team concept, knowing your role, etc. With the individual sports there is none of that and in many ways you need to grow as your own advocate / best coach / sports shrink early to get an advantage. DFW has a good essay about this on his tennis career that stalled out after college.
  7. Well, at least the Sox aren't on the hook for 200+ million for Robert. I said at the time I thought the Julio deal was an overpay, especially on years. I have been proven right. Julio is on pace for 2 WAR despite being relatively healthy until this last stretch with his ankle. He's not an elite defensive CF just a good one and he has serious launch angle issues himself at the plate. Frankly I'd rather have Robert on his deal going forward.
  8. Ho. lee. fuk. The Mariners announced Wilson as the MANAGER GOING FORWARD! JUST MERGE THE FUCKING TEAMS! IT'S THE SPIDERMAN MEME! EDIT: it just keeps getting BETTER. Scott learned of his firing via a breaking news on his PHONE! He was scheduled to meet with management later today. Wow.
  9. Him and Lloyd Mcclendon always gave the best answers to the media. Rare guys that would be funny and honest. I guess they went with Dan Wilson, who has really no experience. We'll see how he does.
  10. Nah, it was a shitty day because they solved nothing and in fact double, tripled down on in house bullshit hires. f*** this entire franchise. Fire Getz.
  11. Montgomery hitting 206 with a 696 OPS, oof. I hate it here.
  12. By the time I got down the book it was 59.5 for the O/U and I swear if it had been 60.5 I would have bit. There's just something about betting on a team to lose 103 games, even one as bad as the Sox, that seems absurd. I should have trusted my gut. Hell, should have juiced it up to under 45.
  13. "guys, all you gotta do is win ONE OUT OF THREE GAMES rest of the way to avoid the record." "Best I can do is one out of four"
  14. They need to go like 10-24 rest of the way to avoid beating the Mets' post WWII record. Do they have it in them? We'll find out.
  15. Just looking at the box, and I know offense is historically low this year, but these slash lines are SHOCKING. Both teams are trotting out a half dozen guys with an OBP below 280 and an OPS below 650.
  16. In the grand scheme of things if we had Jake Burger we'd have 1 more win this year. On any sort of real franchise this would just be a deal that gets done every year and nobody really cares either way how it turns out. On our pathetic franchise it sticks out I guess.
  17. It's a sad state of affairs when we are even discussing this.
  18. Yea I don't have kids but I'm fairly involved in local sports and most the kids from what I can tell are playing at least two sports. I'm always a little surprised as someone that grew up during the height of "just do one sport" era parenting that a lot of guys looking to go D1 in football are also pretty damn good on the baseball diamond or basketball court. I don't think that specialization is behind the arm injuries. I just think it's physics. Guys are throwing harder, younger, than ever. The elbow just can't handle it unless you are some super freak, and even then eventually it will likely go like Verlander.
  19. The white Sox now have -5.2 fWAR from position players. I believe this is the worst ever and will finish as the worst ever.
