every 3rd inning you get the wild card: anything from a fan pitching to a race in the OF for a run occurs. go wild. -
MLB considering 6IP minimum for starters
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Demographics of this board are showing in this thread. I'm 41. I've lived about half my life in a world where pitcher wins don't matter. Younger fans it's all they know. They don't care about 300 innings in a season or 20 wins or whatever they care about team wins and WHIP and K rate and so on. This is like lamenting that there aren't any 50 save guys anymore and we need to change the rules to make that happen. Who fucking cares other than nostalgic old timers looking back with a biased eye? -

sure, change the rules, don't dictate who you can play. -

I can't think of anything even close. Maybe like some NFL substitution rules but that doesn't even begin to extend into requiring players to play a certain designated amount of plays. -

telling teams how they can and can't use their pitchers without being punished is insane. this is an order of magnitude more disruptive than anything they've changed in the last few years. it is a complete non starter (pun intended). -

Apparently changing the baseballs without telling people wasn't enough. Now it's more explicit. Like f*** off. The game as always ebbed and flowed. I've said it before the easiest thing to do would be to lower the mound. Try it out in the minors and see what happens. It's a very elegant solution that fits with the history of field changes and doesn't touch the major 3rd rails that other options potentially would. -

I just don't know how you'd enforce it. If a guy is struggling you just say he had an injury. And the league is going to have an injury gestapo to double check? What are we doing? -

This is stupid. Manfred does a couple things right and immediately goes to 11. -
Sox planning more playing time for Vargas/Fletcher
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You're right, it's hard to believe, because it's utter nonsense. I know the powers that be want to pin it all on Pedro. Get real. The manager makes a 2-3 game difference at best and if the powers that be wanted "their guys" playing more you know they were free to call him into their office and/or fire him long before August. -
We're 30 WAR away from being competitive. Give me loud tools guys in the minors over some 1 WAR scrub that is "MLB ready" every day of the week!

Vargas rocking a wRC+ of 22 in a Sox uni. He fits right in.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the one time you can say that sort of thing really matters in baseball is when a team has been on a death march and simply not seeing the leader of that march in the office in the morning when you come into work will spark more effort and loose play. The club has played better since Pedro was fired and although I doubt it will last maybe it will be enough to avoid the all time modern record for losses and RD. -
The only thing he has going for him is that he's not a Sox lifer. I'm not against him as a caretaker for next year but we need to do a real search. Not that I have any hope of one.

I think just the dead cat bounce you get from a new voice in the clubhouse is probably worth 2-3 wins. Not sure much more than that but it would have been nice to find out sooner. I went back and forth on any utility in firing him this year but once they went on the historical losing streak it was clearly time. -

Quite the thread.

Dumb thing to say, dumber thing to actually do. Let him have an offseason after his first ever season of "failure" as an athlete. See how he responds. Don't throw this on his plate now.

I'd be mad about being paired with that clown too. That said his heart hasn't been it in for years, just quit so we don't have to have a sub so often in the 2nd half of the season with no chemistry. Bacon is legit decent and you can tell he has a lot of insight as a really talented guy that just wasn't able to ever put it together mentally.

I hate this team.
