We all knew it was going to be bad by August, but the actual reality of it is so much more depressing than I figured. We're so far away from even being a s%*# 70 win team that I can't see any path forward out of this.

I'm conjecturing. Thing is, Getz should have just said nothing rather than trying to justify the objectively poor outcome as a communications breakdown during an "ah shucks" routine. Then don't make a trade or call the bluff. It wouldn't have been ideal but SURELY just not trading Fedde would have been better than this crap. I get the feeling Getz was too proud and foolish to just admit nobody really wanted Pham, he wanted to make it seem like he turned a dime into a quarter there. He didn't. He wasted every single cent he paid Pham and also denied ABs to more worthy, younger players already in the org.

As alarming as the actual trade are Getz's public comments. Give me the smooth talking lawyerese of Hahn any day over this Jim Boylen like moron trashing players, admitting he has no clue, etc.

I mean, other teams got the info, so if absolutely nothing else Getz has to get wind of that earlier and figure it out and commuincate to the fanbase. From everything we've seen it appears that Getz was ill prepared for this deadline when it's the only thing that really mattered since May. Again, that just can't happen. The focus had to have been on maximizing the returns, instead we've got some AAAA guy that might be a decent regular in a couple years and a couple lotto tickets that 1/100 might pan out.

It's his job. I don't care what his story is. He has to communicate to Crochet's camp and square anything away. It sounds like from other teams that he got blindsided here. That can't happen.

This is so depressing.

He's bottom third in literally every offensive stat other than chase and whiff rate. That would be fine if he was a defensive oriented CF or SS. But he's a DH/LF that hits righty. His xwOBA is .287. ZIPS thinks he's a 1.5 WAR player. We just traded for another borderline starter -- at best. It's such a stupid use of everything: opportunity cost being the biggest one. You shot your load on a guy that is he pans out is like a decent regular that is poor defensively and hits righty. Great, you've turned a 120 loss team into a 118 loss team. This isn't at all the type of guy we should be targeting, regardless of how you feel about him as a player.

Has to hit to have value and poor statcast data indicating he's not going to hit are the two things Getz looks for.
