Keynan Middleton rips White Sox 'no rules' culture
Balta1701 replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought we were supposed to love Joe Kelly? Anyway, this sounds like blaming the people who aren't here because they're convenient targets. -
There are numerous ways that this could have been set up, by either teams or the league. Especially when there are 81 games where you have potential out of town guests who could use these sorts of things, there are some obvious reasons why you'd set something up so that families can attend games and have facilities available for children. It feels like everyone just said "naw the only way this could possibly exist is if the White Sox ran things their way and they would thus have total right to be jerks to people". They might, but there's a surprising degree of certainty that the player's family is clearly wrong given the knowledge gap.

Just in general, it wouldn't surprise me at all if "continuing day care after guys are traded for some amount of time" was a normal thing that MLB teams did to make the shifts associated with trades easier on families. It seems a lot of people are convinced that this would never happen and I'm surprised by how certain they are.

Was it BA who had them 12th? Just in general, 20th feels a little low, MLB.com included Quero in their top 100 last time out so counting Schultz and a very high performer in Montgomery, they have at least 3 top 100 prospects including a top level guy. That kind of top to your system seems like it pushes teams closer to 15th.

I have little to no knowledge of this. -

Our billionaires are not especially high quality individuals in this country. -
This is his first few months back from TJS and another injury to start the year. The only thing I’d take from his performance this year is that he’s healthy enough to be on the mound and genuine shock and gratitude that Rick Hahn hasn’t yet tried to save his big league bullpen by calling him up.

So in 2 weeks his defense has been so incredible that he's been worth a full extra 2 wins? Either this isn't being written correctly or Jake Burger has suddenly developed the range to cover from 2b to 3b.

White Sox’s Romy Gonzalez Undergoes Labrum Surgery
Balta1701 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I get that we're used to making this judgement after seeing guys struggle, but turning it the other way - when you have a 24 year old who hits 24 HR in 404 plate appearances between AA and AAA, has a 10.6% walk rate that year, an .896 OPS, goes 24/30 on stolen bases, and you can't turn this guy into a big league utility player so you wind up signing someone else who has no business on a major league roster for several million dollars, (most recent example: Elvis Andrus), then you're also failing to do what is needed to build a sustained winner. -
Eh, I have zero problem with churning the bottom of the roster with guys like this and frankly encourage it. Doing this is a valid strategy for cutting the length of a multi year rebuild and finding key surprising players. In fact: one of the problems with the last White Sox rebuild is that they utterly failed at doing this. The only surprise guys they came up with for the entire rebuild 3 year period were Narvaez (traded for an expensive closer) and McCann (they signed a $70 million catcher to replace him). They had 3.5 years of playing time with a clearly rebuilding team and had 0 positive pieces to show for it as early as 2021 - the closest you can come are Jose Ruiz and Evan Marshall. The lack of coaching staff may be a factor in this. I will have a problem with it if they bring in numerous guys like this and then cut them all in the offseason after 2 months to clear room for Severino and DeJong who they decide they need for their competitive 2024 roster. These are the types of moves that benefit you if you do them enough and commit to them over multiple years. They won’t stop a gushing wound tomorrow, they won’t even be bandaids.

Aw come on man you really have to make me do this? I want to cheer for the guy. His walk rate with the White Sox was 6.8%. With the Marlins so far it is 6.5%. These continue to match his minor league performance going back to 2017. James Outman is at 11.9%. Schwarber for his career is 13.6%, higher this year. You are looking at a guy whose BABIP with the White Sox was .225, with the Marlins it’s .375, and you’re complimenting him on taking more walks because of those extra hits.

I go back to a lot of Hahn’s deals. Too many people defend him to this day, and I am the sort who doesn’t let that pass.

At the very least they can QO Bellinger and either have him back or get a draft pick.

Dodgers have completely overhauled Lynn pitch mix
Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In the first half of 2021 they were 25th in walks. Second half 19th, 2022 they were ninth, 2023 second. When Katz had the sticky stuff on all his pitchers, a strategy of going for the strikeout worked. Guys could control the ball better on the corners and throw more pitches that were unhittable; either late movement or perfect positioning made it impossible to lay off. Without the sticky stuff, the same pitches are either home runs or taken for balls. -
This is one helluva bat flip. https://x.com/michaelschwab13/status/1690168631043178496?s=46&t=IHGvMKQvXHaTI5ypbpIKjg

Deivi Garcia? Edit: Yes, Deivi Garcia. (Claimed by White Sox)

Not totally sure, there were no real 1b picked up by the white Sox during the last rebuild because of Abreu being here and I’m not seeing former astros in their lineup. Any chance you’re thinking of 3b like Dallas McPherson or Matt Davidson and mixing it up with JD Martinez, who was a former Astro but went to Detroit? and this is weird to me but probably related to why the last rebuild failed - I feel like we’ve picked up more guys like this in the last month than in the entire previous 3 year long rebuild. -
Sox vs. Greasy Gabagools 8/9 7:10PM
Balta1701 replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in 2023 Season in Review
In one key way they are. If you look at the teams that thought they were great this year and aren’t, the common thread is always a lack of contributions from their minor league system. If you look at the top teams, they are consistently getting help from their drafts and signings. You can paper over this somewhat with the right trade or signing, the Yankees kept themselves from being in a hole last year thanks to Judge. But, if you want to be a team over .500, there is no other functioning option. -
If they were listening to fans and replacing the GM, wouldn’t they want to give that GM a chance to go in front of fans and try to get on their good side? This sounds like them knowing they won’t be changing anything so they have to shut the door to keep the complaints out.

If any players have good seasons you must discount everything else. Makes sense to me, extend everyone! Robert is having a great year, the offense therefore must be fine overall. Be proud of where things are right now.
