If they were in a playoff race I’d say he should have backed off to avoid the suspension. This team, eh. From the video I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they both get 5 or 10 games. That’s murder for Cleveland if they want to hang with Minnesota.

An impact by a meteorite of interesting composition.

But, Grifol didn’t select the players, didn’t hire Katz, and I’m not sure what role he had with the hitting coaches - aggressively swinging and hitting the ball on the ground has been a pattern for this team across a decade of hitting coaches, which makes me think that approach is what the GM wants to hear when he interviews a coach.

They are 24-9, which appears to be easily the best record in baseball in those games.

I'll say again - Luis Robert has today off. We should be celebrating this, not criticizing. The White Sox are ungodly lucky that he has held up with his current usage rate given his injury history. They absolutely needed to get Trayce Thompson into the lineup, not because of TT, but because Luis Robert desperately needs some days off down the stretch and there has been literally no one else in the organization capable of playing CF for a couple days this month.

Luis Robert has a day off. I repeat, Luis Robert has today off. Luis Robert has played in 106 of the White Sox's 109 games so far, after having severe injuries in 3 of his 5 full professional seasons. We are lucky that he hasn't turned to dust yet at this usage rate.

Do they actually believe it when they say they think they can compete next year?

Rangers should provide steep discounts for today's Sox lineup

LUIS ROBERT GETS A DAY OFF PRAISE BE TO ALL POSSIBLE DEITIES. -
It took a trade for there to be a baseball team that gave a "Jake Burger price".

But worth noting it’s now 23 months later and his velocity is still down.

He has the surgery in September of ‘21 and missed the entire 2022 season. He would have been ready to start the 2023 season but was delayed by a broken foot. He did not throw a competitive pitch for 21 months. Had he started spring training of this year it would have been about 19.

It most certainly does not say 16 months. It gives an average return time of 17.36 months and notes that 40% of pitchers never significantly came back at that time. That’s a big difference from 12 to 14. I think 17.5 stands up as an average after the period of this survey.

It is super aggressive in terms of being back in the big leagues. Find me a single pitcher who had TJS in the last 5 seasons who came back in 14 months and pitched more than 10 innings without getting hurt again. The closest I came up with was Glasnow who made 2 starts down the stretch last year before the Rays were eliminated. He then started this year on the IL. Bryan Abreu was the last pitcher I found who successfully kept that timeline and I believe that was 2019, literally everyone since who came back that quick got hurt or stank.

All of these seem relatively true. This was approximately fair value for an underpaid veteran pitcher with Lynn’s performance This is the kind of deal contenders make regularly. The White Sox were better in 2021 than they would have been without this deal. Normal franchises make these deals because they know they will develop talent to replace guys they trade away. The White Sox did not win a title in 2021 and a single 3rd place finish in the AL isn’t all that impressive. The White Sox would have finished in the same spot in 2021 had they not made this deal. When they made this trade it was iffy because the White Sox’s previous drafts were bad. They had very little minor league depth left. There is a strong case that they could not afford to make this deal. This is different from most teams when they make deals like this. Because their system was so weak, the White Sox had no choice but to extend Lynn after this trade. Given his physical state, age, and leg injury, that extension has been an issue and could have been predicted to be one at the time it was signed. The White Sox made multiple deals for veterans with little control. This factor made each successive one sting more. The White Sox were worse in 2022 and 2023 because of this deal. The White Sox will be worse in 2024 and 2025 because of this deal. The White Sox would not have won the AL central or wild card in 2022, 2023, or 2024 has they not made this deal. Tony LaRussas role in the trade is unknown, but it doesn’t seem likely to be a coincidence that Lynn is a former Cardinal.

Didn't the 1983 team...win the division? Didn't the '77 team...win 90 games?

Just to point this out one more time, only 1 team in baseball does not recognize that 12 to 14 months is a very aggressive return schedule from TJS. The good news is that 14 months from now should be the end of the 2024 season, so the odds of them trying to rush him back are low.
