This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Balta1701 replied to LittleHurtCG's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You are replying to a post made on June 24. After the game on June 23, Andrew Benintendi's batting average was precisely .275. -
That assumes Eloy has a 100% chance of successfully getting a bunt down. It takes it from 63% to 67% if he succeeds, but drops it to 42.8% if he fails and it leads to 1 out. A 4% increase in chances of winning if he succeeds, a 20% drop in chances of scoring if he fails - that means Eloy has to successfully sacrifice at an 85% clip or better for this to increase their chances of scoring.

How could Rick Hahn he have possibly dealt with bad moves and bad decisions by Grifol and Katz? They should clearly deal with the person making those bad moves and who hired Grifol and Katz, they're clearly a problem.
-
if your strategy for winning a baseball game involves taking one of your few decent hitters out of the game in the 10th inning...just stop.
-
Why are you quoting a post from 2016?
-
No one knows their names and they were just brought in last year. I see zero reason to retain them either, but no one has been gung-ho in favor of them like they have been with Katz.
-
He let the architect of that team go because he had done his job and wanted to move on? And he let the whole team go because had he kept them, they'd have a $250 million payroll and like 70 wins. Were the Baez, Bryant contracts the kind of thing that would help the Cubs?

Katz will be this years' scapegoat coach. Deservedly so. Kenny may retire.

Really?

Trading One Year Assets is Inevitable. Maybe even 2-yr
Balta1701 replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Between the offseason stuff and the fact that he dragged stuff into the season with minor but existing things that made this organization look bad, I have no idea why people think any other GM would trade for Clevinger. Any GM acquiring him is clearly going to get questions asked about his personal life during his press conference that the GM wouldn't want to answer, adding him would clearly be something most fanbases wouldn't like, and the GM would clearly be taking on a high risk player for very little chance of gain. If he did something to embarrass his new franchise, or actually hurt someone again, that could cost 29 GMs their jobs regardless of how their baseball team is performing. In a GM role, I wouldn't take him for the minimum salary next year. Straight up not worth the downside risk. Let him go play in Korea. -
They fell off extremely fast after 2005 because of Kenny expecting his starting rotation to hold together, but they did not. But even after this, we had Kenny taking big gambles to try to get better. Danks and Floyd into the rotation - flopped at first then turned really good. Ramirez and Quentin - keyed a playoff race. Dunn, Peavy, and Rios - terrible team in 2011, changed coaches and surprisingly good in 2012. Then we went from gambles that sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t to super cheap moves that never worked. “Assume everything else will stay the same, no one will get old, have the manager coach guys less hard, and add Conor Gillespie and Jeff Keppinger, now that’s the path to the 2013 playoffs.” Get rid of both now, but don’t undersell how awful Rick Hahn specifically has been.

I have zero interest in Eloy, Burger, or Robert practicing bunting. They have better things to work on.
-
Do we think that Jerry has gotten worse with his tendencies over the last 15 years? Because Jerry also did hire KW and although he wasn’t the best GM in the league, he was good enough to accomplish some things. It is actually quite remarkable how much worse things got as soon as Hahn took over in 2013.
-
But out of recent years it’s literally the best comp we have because most struggling teams don’t put themselves in the same weak situation as the White Sox by holding guys to this point. They avoid this, because they know the value of a player drops a ton when they have only 2 months of control remaining.
-
The batters up in the 10th were Robert (walked), Eloy, Grandal, and Burger. I can’t imagine that any of these guys regularly practice bunting, asking them to do so is just taking the bat out of their hands.
-
He also got a 2 year contract because he’s 34 years old this year and even Hahn doesn’t give 5 year deals to 34 year old pitchers. Giolito will not be 34 this offseason. Quintana wound up starting game 1 of the playoffs for the Cardinals. However, if you think you have an example of a pitcher moved with 2 months of control for a much higher price, I’d be happy to know who it was.
-
The comp I keep using from last year is Quintana to the Cardinals as the years of control, performance, and money aren’t that different. The Pirates got back 2 players. One was a minor leaguer ranked between 10 and 20 in the Cardinals system, I believe he hasn’t made the big leagues yet. The other was Oviedo, a pitcher who was a top 10 prospect in the Cardinals system a couple years ago, but who had spent some time in their bullpen - the Pirates moved him back to starting this year. If that’s what pitchers go for this year, then 2 guys who will wind up in the top 10, maybe top 6-7 in the White Sox’s system is probably the expected return.

7/6- White Sox vs Blue Jays, Gm 2, 8:00
Balta1701 replied to flavum's topic in 2023 Season in Review
My hypothesis is that he has the lowest launch angle in baseball after having his last set of coaches constantly telling him he needed to hit the ball on the ground. -
The QO is a thing still. Because of various rules, the White Sox would only receive a compensatory pick after the second round. Anything they get in a trade would be more valuable than that. Furthermore, these are still the White Sox. If they perceive any risk of the player accepting the QO and receiving $20 million, with only a late 2nd round pick reward, they may still pull a Rodon and decline it.

So it took Bummer to get the scoring started huh -
I highlight this because I think Burger is a guy who could be tradeable right now. For example, the Brewers are bottom 5 in MLB in production from both DH and 3b, they’re one game out of the wild card, this is a spot where he could be a solid fit. There are other teams like the Yankees that could need help there also. Normally I wouldn’t be wanting to trade a guy with this amount of control, but I think Burger isn’t likely to be that useful when the White Sox are next competitive.
-
Jake Burger is 27, and given his body type and injury history, if he can be that player - does he fit the White Sox very well? If they’re bad for the next 2 seasons, are we confident he can still be productive at age 30?
