  1. Injuries are up 20% league wide, the White Sox have been healthier than average, and people still insist that the day when they are the healthiest team in baseball is right around the corner.
  2. If everything else was the same between them, a difference in range factor of 0.25 means an extra out every 4 games. That means an extra 27 outs every 108 games. In a full season, that tiny difference would translate to an extra 1.5 defensive wins if everything else were the same.
  3. The White Sox’s training staff insists he can run some dirt on all that and be ready to go. 10 innings is way more than people should ever need in a rehab outing.
  4. Poll: How many competitive innings do you think a player needs before returning from Tommy John Surgery: A 100 B 50 C 25 D 15 E 10 F 6 Your answer will determine whether you would fit on the current White Sox coaching staff.
  5. He was really starting to get there pre-injury in 2018, he had a month or two where his walk rate plummeted. Then he had the injury, sat out a year...and then they stuck him in the bullpen, so he never had a chance to rebuild his routine and muscle memory and find his control against minor leaguers.
  6. They'll be hanging out somewhere below .500 but maybe close the distance on the division slightly. Rick Hahn will insist "If we keep playing like this we'll be right there at the end (Rick Hahn, July 2015)." People will defend the decision saying no one would ever sell if they were only 7 games out of the wild card or whatever the number is. They will go into next offseason with $30 million to spend while having to fill 3 starter positions, replace 2 relievers, and having sub-replacement players at several positions. We'll watch the standard $4 million veterans be signed to fill all those positions and people will be super excited next March over all the experienced players they brought in.
  7. Team pitching WAR in 2023 is 1.5, good for 26th in baseball. 4.11 BB/9 is good for 29th in baseball. Team 5.55 ERA is good for 29th in baseball. Team FIP of 5.04 is good for 29th in baseball. But sure, keep Katz. This is fine and nothing is on fire. ...The good news is he will be an excellent scapegoat.
  8. It has been years since any pitcher came back in under 14 months from TJS and threw anything more than about 10 effective innings.
  9. Really you couldn’t guess? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2020/03/03/white-sox-dallas-keuchel-leadership-25000-team-dinner/4937202002/
  10. Stuff about Frank not being a leader or being all about his own stats...that was all over the media in the 1990s. Absolutely.
  11. I don't know if we're just turning this into a thread about Anderson's motivation or whatever, but golly gee whiz this is pretty darn blatant as to why his power numbers aren't where they were a couple years ago. At this rate, 3 years from now every time he swings the ball will be bouncing straight up off the plate. Is someone teaching this? This is so blatant it has to be on purpose right?
  12. Immediately after the trades, 2020 seemed like an entirely reasonable time for a young team to be making a playoff appearance. That schedule seemed to be set back after a generally really bad 2018, between guys who struggled at a lot of levels and bad injuries (Kopech, Robert).
  13. Cease did a good job and the Astros managed to be worse. And Montero out of their bullpen would fit into Hahn’s bullpen perfectly.
  14. Lead off bloop for Peña. That….seems fair.
  15. Literally every ball that inning other than Moncada’s was a super awkward flip. 2 of them caught, two weren’t.
  16. Abreu is just not seeing the ball at all right now, you can tell from what he is swinging at against Kelly.
