  1. I’m almost certain they kept the browns pick and traded theirs.
  2. I mean, we’ve seen Hawk announce bad baseball. 2013, 2015-2016. He tries to have fun when he can but with things this bad he’d give a sigh and they’d try to divert into some stories or something to fill the air.
  3. The good news is they’re so close to competitive that it makes sense to get Crochet back as soon as humanly possible.
  4. Well the wild prediction for the Texans happened.
  5. This is both harsh but also true - their honesty over injuries in 2022 was atrocious. They didn't admit Grandal had a back issue until what, December? If he was having back issues, that could have been a contributing factor to the leg injuries that did put him on the IL, it could easily be why he hit .220, why he would have the occasional good game or good couple games, and it's entirely consistent with their other behavior regarding injuries in 2022 as they clearly covered stuff up or pretended it could be ignored.
  6. I mean, presumably he didn't have this injury back in what, 2019, when that contract was signed? I wouldn't have signed that contract from the White Sox's side if he had a potentially long term back issue. This would be the risk you take in signing those contracts early, that if you do it 6 or 7 times, eventually someone you sign turns out to have a debilitating condition.
  7. That would be the kind of injury that would explain an awful lot of his 2022 performance.
  8. He wouldn’t have stayed with the Bulls once he got to FA, they had a depleted roster and a staff that didn’t fit him.
  9. I see a 2022 Orioles home game against Boston showing 2,467 as the reported attendance and a May game against the twins at 6678. I see a 2023 home game against the As at 9322. So maybe the problem is that the USA Today’s authors have an issue with math.
  10. Everyone meet Berto from the west side. I’m pretty confident this is actually the caller. https://twitter.com/robcolletti
  11. You already know where they come up with the resources for that. They go down to A ball and trade away guys they’ve barely seen, or they undervalue a guy who has made the big leagues but who has struggled because they did a crap job coaching them.
  12. Just for some context of the hole they dug, for this team to win 90 games this season, they would have to go 83-54 the rest of the way. That’s a 98 win pace over a full season.
  13. There have been a lot of those just this century. 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2022.
  14. 2013 was comically bad. It was like this, except it lasted for 6 months. This has to last for longer to match that.
  15. I'm unsure about Crochet. I'd at least listen on him, if someone thinks he can be a useful reliever for them this year they might give up something of value for him, but coming back from TJS, I am skeptical about anyone really paying "recent first round draft pick who has multiple years of control remaining" value for him. If it was legitimately up to me, I would still 100% put him at Charlotte and tell him he's starting this year, and his job is to see if he can get up to 60 or 70 innings. I'd probably burn another option on him next year, and see if I could make him a starter who throws more than 100 minor league innings next year without blowing service time. Then, I might have an actual starter for 2025.
  16. Let's also not forget putting him in the bullpen for a year.
  17. I’d say equally dumb is Robert playing at all. His game log shows that he’s played in 23 games and the Sox have played 24. This is a pace to play like 150-156 games this season. For a guy with his injury history, and his struggles right now on top of that, this is crazy.
  18. You are correct I will not be able to get enough value back in the trades I have to make to fully rebuild this roster. It will take trades and additional drafting and development. That doesn’t change the right decision. Barring a miracle turnaround, they will need to clear out bad money and get what they can for players. In a lot of cases this will take eating some money. They will have to cut payroll next year, there is no reasonable path to getting better while doing that, so a reset is the only option. Lynn, Grandal, Kelly, someone might take them if the Sox eat most but not all of their remaining contract. Any savings you get is worth it. Moncada, Eloy, Graveman, Benintendi - if you have to take a loss on them and get nothing back, but you clear out a good portion of their remaining deal, do it. You remove the risk of having to pay their full deal from your roster. Anderson, Hendriks if he comes back, maybe Lopez, Cease - might not bring you back everything you want for them, but you can’t risk deciding to hold them and then having them get hurt or struggle. They will bring back things of variable value, do the best you can and get it done. It’s going to be unpleasant but cleaning up a mess always is. A large portion of next years payroll will basically be dead money. It still has to be done.
  19. Challenge with that is Oakland is legitimately worse and their fan base is literally losing the whole ball club.
