Can Correa opt out any of those years? If he's so productive that he's still able to get 502 plate appearances every year into his late 30s (possible), he'd probably be worth well more than $15 or $10 million on the free agent market given normal price growth for that long.
-
Yes but the remaining years were effectively insurance against a severe injury. If he blew out a knee or ankle last year, he would have used the second or third year.
-
Technically wasn’t last years deal over $100 million, but with player opt outs?

Yeah I can't imagine that any team up for sale wants to deal with that. -

However, they did have a better run differential than the White Sox - the White Sox outperformed their record in 1-run games (27-16 record) while Minnesota underperformed (20-28). That may have something to do with bullpen quality and it may also just be luck of the draw - the White Sox had a below .500 record in those games in 2021, while a last place Twins team had an above .500 record in that case. -

Weird, wild s*** happens in the draft sometimes. If the best offer the Bears get for the pick is something like the Colts pick and a second rounder, wouldn't the Bears just say screw it and take the defensive player of their choice? I mean, it seems unlikely, but "there must be someone willing to pay a fair price" isn't truly guaranteed.

The Dodgers, Mets, and Cubs have sold since 2009. The Dodgers were also sold in 2004. The Angels are for sale right now. The Astros were sold in 2011. Do we need to keep going?
-
And in 2006 the White Sox were behind the Cubs by 2000 per game. I wonder what happened that was different there that made them catch up so suddenly. Could we try that again?

So there was really only 1 coach today and 3 total?

The problem for the Mets is that there are strong suggestions that one of Cohen's motivations behind the spending is that he's after one of a select group of NY State Casino Licenses that are about to be given out by the state legislature. To do so literally will require the permission of the state legislature, so he is actively employing NY State lobbyists on the subject and this may very well be why he's willing to put so much money into the Mets. https://fortune.com/2023/01/08/casino-new-york-city-mets-owner-steve-cohen-gets-community-input-gambling/ How would New York State Politicians react to him employing Trevor Bauer? Is Bauer worth derailing a billion dollar casino project? Naw. -
Congrats. Something about "I was right" bragging posts doesn't sit particularly well with me given the topic. This is literally a "No, no one could have predicted or planned for this" setup.

The other thing with Bauer is that if you sign him, you almost certainly know you will have to deal with him trending for something he does in the future. This isn't just these 2 women who made complaints against him, it's also his online persona, where he's bullied women by "quote-tweeting" things they dared to tweet about him so that his followers go after them, he's fiddled around with the antisemitic "George Soros is evil" stuff which won't go over well with any owners who happen to be Jewish, he's made "jokes" about trans people. You don't just have the risk of him abusing some woman again while you've signed him, you also have the darn near certainty that your team is going to have to deal with something else he says online. -
Cleveland just fired their DC so guessing that means the HC is safe?
-
He was very obviously a caretaker for them when no one else wanted the job last year after they were trying to hire Josh McCown or whatever they thought that mess was.

Does Lovie Smith have a charity that all the Bears fans can get into for a day?
-
The official statement is fairly clear he will not be ready for opening day.

https://www.phillyvoice.com/recent-history-teams-trading-back-nfl-draft-and-acquiring-future-first-round-pick/ Depending on the pick you got, it sure looks like "3 first round picks and change" is probably an important goalpost if the Bears start taking offers.
-
Detroit could definitely be in play for a long term QB option. You could definitely get teams like the Colts offering a top 10 pick, an early second rounder, and maybe a 2nd next year? Maybe the Raiders would do a first this year and next?
-
How do you know his current ownership share?

…solid pre arb player with 4 years of control? I have no idea why they’d do that without getting a top 100 prospect+ back. It absolutely starts with Montgomery and then adds more. -
The Packers, the Raiders. Maybe the Broncos again. Nathan Peterman remains a specific casw of failure. How can you guarantee that he stays healthy while you throw all 17 games? If Gardner Minshew and Taylor Heineken can win multiple games then so can whoever you have as Peterman’s backup. How can you be sure that Williams has no serious injury? The odds aren’t big but certainly aren’t zero. Tua looked looked like a no brainer number 1 pick a year before he was drafted and fell after injury. Since you like them I’ll give you a bet with odds, if Williams has no major injury I will take a week off and if he does you are banned for life. If you’re totally certain that college Quarterbacks never get hurt that’s an easy win for you right? That’s the kind of bet you’re saying is a no brainer for the Bears.
-
Or Caleb Williams trashes his leg in a bowl game and is out for the whole next season. Or Rodgers leaves the Packers and now you play extra hard to win your rivalry game against a bad Green Bay team. Theres just too many ways with too high a likelihood that this strategy goes bust. If you don’t like Fields for whatever reason, it’s Stroud or Young. That is a risky move but it’s one that at least could work.

4-13 is going to get a couple of very bad teams top 5 picks. Let’s also not forget that the Bears will be adding what, 8-9 drafted players this year, and spending $50 million in free agency just to get tO the salary floor? They could still be bad next year without a QB, but one or two guys step up and your QB less team is drafting 6th while the raiders brought in Garoppolo, he got hurt in game 3, and they went 2-15.
