  1. By all evidence? Here’s the bruises. They were published after MLB failed to do a prompt investigation. Is this who you want the White Sox to be? This is your stuff? LOOK AT IT. Every other team knew to stay away from him. There were other police reports we learned about this year that were public as well.
  2. Here’s the thing - aside from Getz, who made it personal first by accepting the job and second by rewarding a player for beating up women which apparently he is a huge fan of - saying “Drew Thorpe will not succeed with a strikeout rate worse than late career Jamie Moyer and a walk rate 3x that high” isn’t personal at all. Saying “Colson Montgomery had a terrible season and counting on him as your opening day SS is a clear mistake” is a well supported opinion. But daring to point this out gets you described as part of a “circle jerk”. So who is being cool and edgy?
  3. Could they improve the view by dropping the field below the ground?
  4. I believe in some of the Briths soccer leagues they just demote the entire franchise to the minor leagues for being that bad. In general, yes, I think punishment for this level of failure to perform is a good thing for the league. It is a bad thing for the league if teams refuse to spend money and just sit around as parasites, losing 90+ games every season while their owner rakes in money. This doesn't build the league and it doesn't build fanbases. This behavior shouldn't be rewarded.
  5. Yeah the announcers are exaggerating, but at least they've mostly been good games. I took the dog out for a walk at 6-1 and said "crap I should have had the radio on" when I got back.
  6. How did extending Sale work for the Red Sox?
  7. He said that after they were on pace to do it. The first thing he talked about was the importance of bunting.
  8. I think we got the immediate results of their new system. They tried to bring in their type of players, David Eckstein types, with leadership skills and the super important ability to beat up women without being suspended, and they thought this would fix a lot. All those tell-all articles at the end of the season...the ones that made it clear no one in the organization has a clue what they're doing...they were about this year.
  9. If he was doing any of those things, then he would have missed some bats. Deception will miss bats or get ground balls. Thorpe didn’t do any of that.
  10. That doesn’t mean the pitch is a good big league pitch or that he is a big league pitcher. Maybe he was hurt the whole year and he has more than we saw this year, but the guy we saw did not have big league stuff. That includes his changeup, his numbers are unbelievably disappointing across the board.
  11. If his changeup is any good why did everyone make contact with it?
  12. If Thorpe wasn’t hurt last year, if that’s his stuff, I have no idea how he ever has an ERA below 5 as a starter.
  13. Well, the return for the Cease Trade looks to me to be 0 quality MLB players. I'm literally hoping that the #1 player in the deal was hurt last year, because maybe then he can look better if he heals. That doesn't bode well at all for the idea of finding 3 quality prospects from mid-tier guys.
  14. So what’s the answer? Hold Crochet, win 110 games over the next two seasons combined, and he leaves as A free agent?
  15. I’ll bite this one - I have found everyone from that trade super unimpressive and at this point am hopeful there might be one decent reliever out of the Cease trade. If that’s the kind of return you get by going with quantity, don’t do that again.
  16. I’m liking the fact that all these series are competitive and we get baseball the whole week.
  17. No one should care about baseball TV ratings. We have been over this.
  18. So your solution is to get lots of guys who aren’t.
  19. Eh they all could, salaries have on average more than doubled in the past 15 years, so your comparison doesn’t work. The Rays probably wouldn’t pay that. The Pirates wouldn’t. The As wouldn’t. Most other teams though could take his deal on if they thought it was a good value.
  20. The only reason why the White Sox would trade Robert is that Getz has fully decided to move on from him no matter the cost. The fact that his name is already being dropped and that people who know seem to expect him to be gone suggests to me that this is exactly what will happen.
  21. I think it’s likely that he’s not worth what he was a year ago at this time, that’s totally normal for prospects right when they come up. If he was still the number 1 prospect in baseball and he had performed well this year, the Orioles would laugh at the idea of moving him for a pitcher with only two years of control. They might actually consider it, if they think for example that developing him into an all star could be a 3 year process as their window may not be that long. And maybe if Robert was viewed by them as having some value, which is questionable at this point, maybe you could come up with a hypothetical package. But Robert for Holliday is silly season talk after the last year. We should understand baseball better than this.
  22. Make it $100 million that the White Sox are throwing in and you might have the Orioles' interest.
  23. Some of the stuff we've gotten about Robert includes him not knowing who the bench coach was or knowing his name, and public statements about how he doesn't want scouting reports or to study or anything like that before he goes up to the plate because he just wants to do his thing. I believe they've said the latter thing like they thought it was a positive, at least during '23.
