  1. QUOTE(Shadows @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) Anyone have a link to a site with updated UDFA signings? Supposedly they're not all known until around the end of this week when teams start posting their rosters for the upcoming season. It does sound like the Bears have done pretty well in finding potentially talented folks in the UDFA market though
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) hell no, he hates us. He may dislike some specific people within the organization, very important ones at that...but take a moment and remember the ovations he received last year with the A's in his first game back.
  3. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) Screw Baldelli, I'm willing to bet we could go get Freel for cheap from Cincy right now. Yeah, because signing a new, affordable contract usually drives guys' value through the floor.
  4. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) Dude...we're talking Rocco Baldelli....not Vernon Wells. He's good...but not giving up the farm good for god's sake. But...because he's still quite cheap, the D-Rays have very little motivation to trade him until they find someone willing to give up the farm. They can run with an OF of Baldelli, Crawford, and one of their other young OF's until someone is willing to meet their price...and their price is similar to what they got in the Kazmir deal. They've done exactly the same thing for years now. They'd rather hold onto people and wait for the right deal than make a deal too early. It cost them with Huff, but it's also helping keep their expenses low.
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 07:07 AM) Last I knew, the Thome thing was indeed short-term. 15 Day DL, yes? Did I miss something? I don't think anyone is suggesting that Sweeney is the "answer" at DH if Thome is suddenly out all year. Besides, Sweeney is better defensively than some of the OF's we have now, so I'd rather see some of them DH'd and Sweeney in the field. I think part of the problem is...yes, it's only the 15 day DL, but I believe Podsednik is only on the 15 day DL as well. The 60 day DL opens up a spot on the 40 man, but it requires a guy to be out for at least 60 days. Thome could be out for as little as 15 days, but we don't know. It's a muscle pull in an area that doesn't heal the next day and which is put under a ton of strain by his swing. Thome could miss 15 days, 30, 45, 60, or more for all we know. They'll rest him until the muscle feels better, then start inching him back into swinging, but on a 36 year old body, who knows how long exactly he's gone for. And Sweeney better be playing every damn day. Either Dye or Konerko should DH, and if sweeney is up, he better be starting 9/10 games or more.
  6. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) and maybe the white sox organization has already determined that anderson is not the future CF for the white sox right or wrong maybe 400 ABs was all they needed to make that decision And if they have made that decision, they're nearly guaranteeing that the team won't make the playoffs in the next couple of years. I hate to break it to you people, but the White Sox need Brian Anderson. This team does not have the money to not only hold onto the people it has now, but improve along with the other teams in the division. We do not have the money to hold on to JD, Iguchi, and Buehrle, and in addition find a real CF next year. We absolutely need these kids. We need Brian Anderson to find his swing. He doesn't have to be dominant, but he needs to be a starting major league baseball player. Because we just don't have the money to find that many replacements.
  7. Personally, I'm a lot more in-between. I think there are some guys who will just be good no matter what happens, but then there are a lot of other guys who's performance is decided in no small party by who teaches them and how they're handled early in their career (in terms of both performance and injuries). I just think about all of the people who we see with a ton of talent but who are just unable to put it all together and compare them to the guys with equal or even lesser talent who do less with it. There's just so many variables...and a good chunk of them have to be related to the situation.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) "That year out of the bullpen ruined him!" Honestly? I know it's wrong to blame that, but it certainly appears to have not been a good thing for him.
  9. QUOTE(Scwible @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) the fact that this is the outlook already on Anderson makes me wanna puke. It's worrisome...but not a death knell yet. The exact same thing was being said about Boone Logan last year, and suddenly...he looks damn good.
  10. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) This team is a .500 team. They will play this kind of ball the whole year. It's either homerun or nothing. Walker should be fired for our lack of having a decent hitting approach. KW did nothing this offseason to help this team win now. Not one thing. All second half of last year and so far this year has been the same crap with this team. Hit a homer, or don't hit at all. Right now, this team is not a .500 team. Without Mr. Thome, and with none of their best 4 other hitters doing anything reasonable with the bat, and with virtually no youth on the field it seems...this team is a below .500 team. If they put Thome in this lineup, they are a slightly above .500 team...if a few people start hitting then we'll see, but right now, this team is not a .500 team.
  11. Well, I still don't think that it was the 100% correct move...I will sit around and say that the proper move was to give Anderson another 2 months playing everyday with Erstad as a genuine backup coming out of ST. But all things considered...this is the best move. Come on Brian, take your licks, get your swing back, and I hope this works just as well for you as the send-down last season worked for the Legend of Boone Logan. An awful lot of people never wanted to see Boone again when he went down. Time to earn your way back. And please do...we really need you. And Ryan Sweeney needs to play every single freaking day.
  12. That didn't just happen. You don't score runs on bloops.
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 29, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) How deep into the season must we get before there is actually a real chance that Walker is fired? To about the point where KW has to decide whether to sell on his FA's or go and try to salvage the season like in 03. I.e. sometime in June.
  14. Brandon Wood's first career hit. Man, I wish we could have gotten our hands on that guy.
  15. So...now, can I officially smack anyone who calls for Scott Skiles's job?
  16. I like the move...IF he plays every day. End of story.
  17. Well, I guess those guys in NE are certainly the gambling type, but they do know a value pickup when they see one.
  18. Naturally, I had this posted a long time ago in the Dems only thread, but I'd like to add this little nugget.
  19. So, this probably isn't even the correct thread, but a while ago someone asked for an image of the variation in atmospheric greenhouse gases over time with the modern explosion in atmospheric CO2 also put on it, and i couldn't find a very good version. I've finally found one. There you can see the dramatic increases in both CO2 and Methane concentrations in the atmosphere associated with the industrial revolution; a 30+% increase in CO2 for example, pushing the modern value well beyond anything that has been seen in any of the glacial/interglacial cycles for the last 600k years.
  20. One would certainly hope they'd learn from this deserved negative press and perform better in the near future.
  21. Just when I post one piece of Friday Bad news , 3 hours go by, and then the government decides to top it with an even more remarkable bit of bad news.
