  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 07:18 AM) If God was so smart, the NYSE would have been on Galvestion Island. So wait, you want the NYSE to have been destroyed a hundred years ago?
  2. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) Dye also in a pinch So IF a move is made like this, who would be the odd man out of the 40 man? I'm pretty sure Luis Terrero was brought in to try to take this exact role, he's a righty, he's at least non-terrible defensively from what I'm told, can't hit worth a lick, but he at least covers the defensive role. If we wanted to focus more on the bat, then I think he'd have to be the one to go...and anyway, he's about the only other guy on the 40 man who isn't considered either a decent prospect or expected to be on the team this year.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) He's also going to be a joke in LF. At this point, in that outfield, does that really matter? Jones, Soriano, Murton/Floyd? I mean, once you get past a particular level of defensive awfulness, can you really get that much worse?
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) I thought he just threatened to pull out. His supporters in parliament did begin a boycott when Bush met with Maliki as far as I knew.
  5. I'll almost bet he will attempt to do something like this, if nothing else to bring his people back into the government. They pulled out in protest of Maliki's meeting with Bush, but that seems to have only encouraged the U.S. to start talking about more directly targeting him. IF he's back in the government, that might make another direct U.S. attempt to kill him less likely.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) So, you're saying your a registered Republican, Balta? Apparently, if I was, I've got a good enough resume to work for the McCain campaign. Honesty and Integrity above all else, I tells ya what.
  7. Woman who spent her time posting on liberal blogs and attacking Democrats while pretending to be a left-leaning voter hired as the New Hampshire communications director for St. John McCain's campaign.
  8. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) If they were just copies, and he knew that, because he never intended to destroy the originals, just what the hell WAS he doing because he certainly didn't take them on accident. That, I have no answer to. I guess it's entirely possible he thought he was taking originals, but wound up not doing so. That is the disturbing part of all of this...there appears to be no good explanation for his behavior in the facts that are available.
  9. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 02:40 AM) I didnt realize Floyds average was so low last year.Other than him being left handed he would really be a downgrade at that position, they should just let Murton play. But he can take a walk, unlike the rest of that lineup.
  10. "Meanwhile, conservatives don't do themselves any credit when they are as impervious to facts as the loony left."
  11. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) 6/24/07 At least according to CNN, no official release date has yet been announced?
  12. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) For everyone here, I'd make Texas the size of the entire U.S. so it's warm So, basically, you're just going forwards in time 30 years?
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 07:16 AM) The problem is that they would have to find the documents, which are potentially destroyed, which would have given a reason for something to hide. Proving a reason for the obstruction becomes hard without a smoking gun document. Thus far, multiple different sources have said, both publically and under oath in the original Berger case that the documents Berger took were not originals and that no document has been lost to history due to this case. As a source for this, I'll give you the Wall Street Jourlal, who went and asked repeatedly and specifically the lead prosecutor in the case whether Berger prevented examination of any documents by the 9/11 commission. 14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 06:31 AM) Anyone else struck by the parallel between this thread, and the one about the Virginia house rep spouting fear of Islam? Maybe we can all just relax, and be a wee bit more tolerant of people who may have different beliefes than us. Different is not bad. And besides, as was pointed out earlier, I am thinking Santa is a far cry from religion. No offense, Mr. G. And then throw in the SLAM thread about the kid shot by the cannon...and we have ourselves a wonderful tapestry of America. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Flying Spahgetti Santa?? He does wear red...
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) It also didn't mention the fact that a lot of these illegals had stolen the identities of many US citizens. At least based on the charges coming down from the government, I don't think "a lot" is the correct term. Over 1200 were swept up, and only about 50 or so have been charged with anything other than immigration violations. The report from the feds originally said that around 60 had actually done so. Not a zero number, but certainly not a gigantic ID theft ring.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 07:17 AM) Seriously, if Iran were to stop selling oil tomorrow, their government would collapse before our economy would. I'd bet money on it. "SPR". Every so often, it really looks like a great idea. Anyway, the other issue with Iran is that Iran doesn't necessarily have to "Stop" selling oil in order to find a way to hurt the West. There is very little spare capacity in oil anywhere in the world these days, especially with the entire oil industry in Iraq in flames. Iran produces something over 4 million barrels of oil per day. If they were to cut down on the amount they produce, the can jump the price of oil upwards while still being able to export the majority of their supply at a higher price.
  17. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) sir, you have offended me. my religion states that a fat guy wearing a santa suit WAS born in a manjor 2,342 years ago. i demand respect for my insane beliefs. you, sir, will hearing from my lawyers (the ACLU). good day. However, that is still different from the holiday which the U.S. government recognizes on December 25th. The Supreme Court's actual ruling on the matter says that displays are acceptable as long as they are designed in such a way that a "reasonable person" would not interpret the display as an endorsement of a particular religion. Given that this bus driver was almost certainly not endorsing the same religion you advocate, and any reasonable person would conclude similarly unless he began lecturing the students on how his messiah was born wearing that hat 2342 years ago, my legal standing is sound. Because the U.S. government recognizes things like Christmas trees, Santa Claus, flying reindeer, and Tim Allen movies as part of the non-religious tradition of Christmas, unless the driver used the hat to openly advocate for the specific santa-worshipping religion, both he and I have no legal problems whatsoever.
  18. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) I think we are really gonna need to look out for Minni as usual. If Liriano can stay healthy and perform to the level hes capable of that one, two punch will always be dangerous. Liriano is already out for the entire 2007 season after having ligament-replacement surgery on his left elbow.
  19. QUOTE(NUKE @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) What the hell is the matter with people these days?!!? It's very simple actually. Some people are too stupid to realize that Jesus is not the same as Santa, and that celebrating the nationally recognized holiday built around a shopping binge and a legend of a jolly old fat man is slightly different from worshipping a child born a little over 2000 years ago. Sadly, this is simply not going to go away, because, again, some people are really freaking stupid.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Still because KW almost traded for him, I could see a move like this possibly happening. I don't think Kenny would have signed Terrero with Erstadt on the market if he thought Darrin was a better option.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Actually, that reminds me. Another interesting choice might be New Mexico, specifically Albuquerque or Santa Fe. NM is going blue, there is a huge Hispanic population, its a border state where immigrant policy is a hot topic, one of the candidates is Governor (which may be positive or negative), its a growing state... might be a good choice for them. It'd be a good idea in principle, but if nothing else, Denver is significantly larger than Albuquerque, and I'll almost guarantee that the convention-facilities in Denver are going to be several steps above those in Albuquerque. Just did a brief bit of google work, and we're talking about a convention hall with over 3x as much space in Denver, 7300 hotel rooms within walking distance as opposed to 900, etc. If the facilities aren't there, that makes it really hard to hold a convention.
  22. The Twinkies signed Rondell White to another 1 year, $2.75 million deal for next year as their DH/DL guy. This is a relief to me, as I was worried coming into the offseason that they'd be able to upgrade that spot. Marcus Giles passed a physical and will sign with the Padres. Ryan Klesko signed a 1 year deal with the Giants. Greg Gagne passed what was described as an "Extensive" physical and is now the Rangers new closer. J.D. Drew's deal with the Red Sox is still not finalized due to "some things in the medical reports the Red Sox weren't aware of". Presumably the deal will still go through, but there will probably be a little bit of injury-protection added for the Red Sox.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Dems are having a hard time deciding on a spot for the 2008 convention - Denver or New York. Given that Colorado and the mountain west generally are the new frontier for the Dems, and NY is either a given for the Dems or a given for Giuliani, I think Denver is the better choice for them. Plus after the GOP had it in the Big Apple in 2004, it seems like the Dems are just following them around. Denver is BY FAR the better choice, but there are a couple things in the way, most of them stupid. The party insiders seem to have a habit of favoring New York, because a lot of them are there anyway, and a lot of them could make a lot of money on it. Denver also has had a bit of a problem with not-having enough Union hotels or something like that, which would certainly annoy some Dems. If they don't wind up in Denver, they're out of their minds. The West is where the future of the Dem party lies right now. If they're not holding it in New Orleans, then Denver is the obvious other choice.
  24. Not a terrible option as a backup OF, but again, I'd like to point out, we don't have any openings on our 40 man roster, so basically we'd have to release someone from it (Terrero?) in order to sign Erstadt, something I'll bet KW weighed when he decided to open the offseason by signing Terrero.
  25. The Lamont Campaign has been cleared of all allegations that it was involved in hacking Joe Lieberman's campaign page on the day of the primary.
