  1. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) You're missing the $7M cash. Per year.
  2. I think someone needs to go all Tonya Harding on Aaron Rowand. Or we could just put a fence like 30 m. in front of Aaron and tell him to go.
  3. QUOTE(To LA from Chicago @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Has anyone ever thought about 'IMHO'? I mean, have you even known anyone to have a dishonest opinion? Just asking.. Moving on...
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) Brandon's well on his way to bringing sexy back Can he bring Rexy back?
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) According to ESPN 1000 Alex Rodriguez was not discussed last night during the Cashman/Williams talks. It was strickly Sox SP for Yankees RP being talked about. I'd imagine names like Farnsworth and Myers were mentioned when discussing Yankees relievers which makes little sense to me. Did they bug the salt shakers?
  6. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) I voted for Rex based on similair overall views. Are you Lovie Smith?
  7. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) I still think context is important. Different countries stress different health care needs. For instance I doubt our quality of care in bird flu medicines would outweigh that of China, but that's not because we lack the requisite skill or knowledge. Conversely I would imagine our skill and knowledge of diseases like AIDS or diabetes would be higher comparatevily. As would things like sports medicine or even obesity now that it's so prevalent. That's simply not how it works at all. Almost all of the actual research on things like the bird flu is done by westerners, regardless of where it has mostly cropped up.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) My baseball fanatic co-worker just came in from listening to some sports radio show and says the current deal being considered is Crede/Buehrle for A-Rod. There better be a prospect thrown in along with enough money to cover ARod's entire deal.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) When does the book come out? "If I did it...by Carl Lewis"
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) I agree, if Buehrle is the one who is re-signed. Unless he's willing to take a paycut, I'd rather not see the Sox re-sign Freddy and his mid-80's fastball. If Garcia would take a 3 year deal without a no-trade clause and for a somewhat reasonable price (i.e. not $15 million a year), I could tolerate resigning him and trading Vazquez. But resigning Buehrle would be the preferable solution in all cases.
  11. This is the best exit poll ever conceived...
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Because Jim Hendry has naked pictures of someone in the Pirates organization. In all honesty, this would be such a horrendous trade by Colorado. Jason Jennings is a damn good pitcher. He's also a Free Agent in 1 year IIRC, so the Rockies do probably want to get something in return. Doesn't make it a smart deal, but it might fit into their thinking.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 08:54 AM) If we resign Freddy, I think we could make a move that allows the club to get Pelfrey and Milledge plus one of Humber/Heilman. Buehrle does have that much more value than Freddy/Javier if you ask me and we shouldn't ask for anything less. Remember what he gave up for Bartolo Colon? Now he actually has a team with the resources to trade for an ace and sign that ace to a long term contract (Buehrle or Garcia). If we're giving up Buehrle, I want both Pelfrey and Milledge back.
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) This one is worse: Possibility: Buehrle to St. Louis for Chris Duncan and RHP Blake Hawksworth As much as I'd love the Sox to get a prospect that plays catcher, Clement won't be able to help the Sox in 2007 and I don't want to see Alomar back there again. Clement's numbers were terrible last year -- was he hurt? Wow, you've found a way to fill that gaping hole the White Sox have at 1st base! Sweet!
  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) How can I have 'evidence' on something that has yet to occur? I expressed an opinion. Interestingly, if you count the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Tax deduction for employer-provided health insurance, it turns out the government is already paying in some way, shape, or form, for 61% of the health care costs in this country. And another 5% is covered through government mandated hospital care for the uninsured.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) Any extension would likely come with a limited no trade clause like the ones that Contreras and Garland received on their extensions. It gives them a year or two of stability, but gives the Sox wiggle room at the end of the contract. If it brought down the money or the years, I'd be very willing to make the no-trade clause last longer. Especially on Mark. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Well, one thing I thought about with the Carpenter extension was maybe that it was setting a market for Mark more so than anyone else. Maybe something a little smaller, like 5/55, although, I am not personally in favor of such a deal. Mark Buehrle might get $20 million more than that next year if he hits the open market and only signs a 5 year deal. He might get $40 million more than that if he signs a 6 year deal.
  17. Why oh why would you want to be first out of the gate in signing a contract with a pitcher? Chris Carpenter will earn $2 million a year more than Vicente Padilla. God young pitching is so useful.
  18. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) A thing also about trading for Vernon Wells is that if we don't resign him, we get two draft picks for him, so replacing the prospects is not as hard and JD would be the same way b/c the Sox would undoubtedly offer them arbitration. Just something to think about. But here's the sad thing...we're not the Dodgers or Angels...we don't have 4-5 potential all-stars just about to hit the majors at a variety of positions. A team with a ton of talent just about to reach the pros can afford to let a few people walk and take the draft picks, because they have youth to move in. The White Sox, on the other hand, have a pretty barren system with a few possibles sitting near the top. If the White Sox trade away young talent (the article strongly implies Anderson + more), what the White Sox will wind up with is 2 draft picks in 2008, which will give us players that if we're lucky might hit the big leagues some time around 2012, give or take a few years. Either way, there's a pretty big gap to fill in there. Virtually our entire team aside from Paul Konerko, Jose Contreras, and a few guys in the bullpen will be hitting Free Agency by the end of 2008. If we start trading away the talent we do have, then we're going to wind up with 1/2 of this team walking, and we're simply going to have no choice but to face a few years of rebuilding starting maybe even at the end of 2007 when Buehrle, Dye, Iguchi, Garcia, and potentially others including Podsednik, Vazquez, hit FA. In other words, you're trading for a guy like Vernon Wells with no backup option if he does leave, and if you don't win a trophy next year, you are left with no choice but to start rebuilding from scratch.
  19. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) If this is so why did Mackowiack play a ton of CF last year? BA will one day be better than Rowand, but as of right now he is not. Because Brian Anderson is a dirty communist, and right handers will strike out 100% of the time when facing rihgt handers and hit home runs 100% of the time against left handers.
  20. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) What about Weaver? Ugh, I'm a Cardinals fan, and I don't even know this stuff. I gotta start paying more attention. Last year to start the season Weaver signed a 1 year deal with the Halos, who cut him. He then signed a small contract to finish the year with the Cardinals after Mulder went down. So he's currently a FA, but I think he's out of his mind if he doesn't sign a 1-2 year deal with the Cardinals to try to ressurect his career in a place where he's had success already.
  21. If you only have acrobat reader, then it will be difficult for you to produce your own PDF files. You need the full version of Acrobat, or some other similar Adobe software, to turn files into PDF.
  22. QUOTE(Bbigdogg29 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) If the Brewers are willing to dangle Kevin Mench...what do you guys think about him??? First of all, if we play the Cubs, and Cotts is pitching...put him in. But anyway...I just don't see how he solves the club's speed/leadoff type issues. Decent power bat, but we have power covered. Probably pretty poor on defense, and we've already got that. Slow on the bases, and we've got a ton of that.
  23. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:37 PM) Oh, wait. I may have to correct myself. Aren't both Suppand AND Mulder free agents? Yes. Their pitching staff is currently Carpenter, Kip Wells, and presumably Reyes and Wainright until they sign someone else.
