  1. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) It bothers me that Santana's name comes up so often...It seems they are down on him for some reason or another. I think his name comes up for the same reason McCarthy's name comes up...other teams want him. We're not down on BMac as far as I can tell, and they're not down on Santana, it's just that if the Halos want to get a Tejada or a Crawford, or the White Sox want to rent a Soriano, that's what the other teams want.
  2. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Well why don't the Angels maintain their greatness that way then? Because the Angels have other pieces they can put into holes like those they'd create by this deal, and the Angels have different needs from the White Sox.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) Definitely agree. He doesn't belong in that position. Has anyone heard if they've made a decision on him yet? CQ.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) Well in this senario, we trade Freddy and he's better than B-Mac and Vasquez., so he's at least #4 right there. Then you ask about him vs. Garland, Buehrle, and Contreras. It's an interesting discussion. You're still underrating BMac. But we'll let those chips fall where they will, as long as BMac ends up in our rotation next year.
  5. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) He's going to be the starter in Toronto, though. Don't think he would have come here to back up AJ. Bengie Molina?
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Question: If acquired, would Ervin Santana instantly become our best starting pitcher? (keyword is best, not most accomplished) I say the answer is yes, which is why this trade is so intriguing. That and Ervin's age and the money it would save us. Last year, yes, he would have been, but last year was the worst imaginable year for almost everyone in our rotation. Next year, he could well be the 5th best.
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I would think Jose would be the last one dealt of any of our starters. I am not sure anyone is very clear on what the market would be for him, and I think his value would be greater to us than it would be to other teams. Probably best to just let him ride out his extension and hope for the best with him... Jose Contreras has a full no-trade clause for 2007. Stop talking about trading Jose Contreras.

I will cancel my DirecTV MLB package, and pass on purchasing any tickets next season. I will not go to ST, or any games, nor will I watch any games if that SOB winds up on the White Sox. Happily, we already do have a DH, so at least that's something.
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) Ross Gload is a total bargain. With those splits, he should have been subbing for Jim Thome against lefties more of the time. I'd also be fine with him playing LF, though probably not as a full-time player. And he's really a perfect #2 hitter. High average, low strike-outs, can pull the ball, can bunt well. Given enough ABs, he'd probably hit double-digit HRs. The problem is that Ozzie underutilizes him. Instead of 150 ABs, he ought to get twice that number. I don't know about 300 at bats, depending on what our LF fix winds up being, but it honestly would be a good idea to just pencil in Konerko at DH and Gload at 1b one time per week for the entire season. It would probably help big Jim avoid some of those nagging little things that started to catch up with him around August of last year.
  10. Ervin Santana/Brandon McCarthy, Brian Anderson, and Ryan Sweeney might not be enough to get tampa to both take on Podsednik and give us Crawford.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Saunders for Garcia would be an absolutely brutal move by the Sox. Yeah, that one would be really bad by the Sox. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Saunders for Garcia would be an absolutely brutal move by the Sox. Yeah, that one would be really bad by the Sox.
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) Not sure how Garcia's fastball of 84mph and dropping trumps Santana. Well, the Angels weren't really sure how to hit his stuff either.
  13. Yeah, with Jim Thome there, it only makes sense to carry a backup 1b man. Although, I still wish Gload would get a chance to start somewhere like Pittsburgh. I still think he could put up really good numbers for a full season if he got a shot.
  14. That is a surprisingly good deal if Eaton stays healthy, and not a terrible deal if he doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if Meche gets a similar contract, or even more/year when he signs, and Eaton can be a lot better.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Well he could be a future DH for us to replace Thome anyways if we acquired him. Anyway, I'd be willing to suffer through some crappy defense at 3rd in exchange for some good offensive numbers...if the deal brought us back pitching and saved money. I definately hold onto Fields if I bring McPherson in as well, just to give us a 2nd option in the event of Dallas continuing to suck or get hurt.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) Also on McPherson, how's his fielding at 3B? We'll need a power LHH to replace Thome in a year or 2, Dallas could certainly fit the bill. At least so far, his fielding numbers at 3rd don't look like anything to write home about. 31 errors in 123 games in A ball in 03, numbers get a little better as he moves up but it's hard to tell what numbers are statistically significant given him bouncing back and forth between different levels and being injured.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Why is it necessary that we take back Figgins at all? Is it too much of a pipe dream to hope KW is trying to hustle Stoneman for Santana/Shields rather than Santana/Figgins? No matter how good Scot Shields is...right now, I actually think Chone Figgins would make the White Sox a better team than Shields would. We have 3 solid righties out of the bullpen right now, and probably a long-man in Haeger. Shields is damn good, but only can give you so many innings out of the pen, and would be in there along with MMac and Aardsma competing for innings. And on top of it, Ozzie still uses his bullpen as little as any other manager in baseball. Figgins on the other hand at least is a band-aid over the gaping hole we had defensively in LF last year and hopefully covers up for the caught-stealing machine we had leading off our lineup. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) The Angels are not going to give up Shields, so you all can get over that idea. Aybar in addition would be a possibility or maybe Kendry Morales (if we were insanely lucky). I could even see McPherson as a possibility, but his trade value isn't that great right now (Aybar is more valuable) even though McPherson is super talented (just super injury prone as well). The fact that McPherson's trade value is so low right now is the reason I brought his name up. The Angels would have no place to play him with Crede on their team except at DH, the White Sox might have need of a 3rd baseman, the Angels still have Aybar, Brandon Wood, Kendrick, Morales, and Kotchman on the infield on their way up, they really need to dump a couple of those guys for something.

  19. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) the 10 million doesnt have to be used via free agency...it can be used towards another trade...ie arod or michael young or manny just to throw out some names....but dont discount under the radar FA signings like AJ and iguchi both were.....i know the market is high right now, but there are alot of players who can still be signed "on the cheap" relative to the market that can make an impact AJ and Iguchi were both signed in a totally different market. KW made his biggest moves pre-2005, when the market was still depressed because of the giant contracts handed out a few years beforehand to guys like ARod, Manny, Kaz Matsui, etc. Right now, demand seems so high that it's hard to believe there are real bargains to be found on the FA Market.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) But if we didn't do that, we'd probably still need upgrades at 3B and LF still. McPherson would be a good guy to buy low on (or even Kotchman). How would people feel about a Santana, Figgins, McPherson and Aybar for Crede and Garcia deal? Then after you do the deal above, you have 5 starters and some stud SP prospects. I thought about Kotchman, but at the end of the day, there's really no place at all to play him. Konerko, Gload, Thome, Rogowski all fill those slots from AAA on up. McPherson would actually fit in as a potential Crede replacement if he could ever find his swing and get healthy. I would love a Santana, Figgins, McPherson, and Aybar swap. And it would fit moderately well for both teams, considering that Crede, Wood, and Cabrera would have the left side of the Halos infield anchored. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) I would LOVE the angels to include Scot Shields in any deal. I'd love for them to include K-Rod and Vladdy in any deal also, but some things just aren't gonna happen.
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) if this were to go down...i wouldnt blast it one bit yet.....you have to remember....santana at 350,000 + figgins at 3.5 mil is about 11 mil less than garcias 10 + credes arb (which id think would be roughly 5 mil)....so it all depends on what KW does with that remaining 10 mil......remember KW used 10 million saved from the podsednik/lee trade to sign AJ and iguchi This offseason? That $10 million buys you, oh, Gil Meche or so.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Then I don't trade him to New York and listen to other offers. That simple. And New York either misses the playoffs or loses in the first round next year. Not too hard to understand there.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Are you implying that Chris Young is one of the top prospects in all of baseball? I didnt even think he was OUR top prospect. Last year BA had Young ranked as the 23rd prospect in baseball. The top White Sox prospect was #24, Bobby Jenks. Linky.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) The Boys OL has been playin very, very well since Romo took over. Julius Jones and Marion Barber are having great years rushing. Marc Colombo has solidified the RT position, and Kyle Kosier's been a good acquisition at LG. From what I saw of the Bears last night, they had problems stopping the rush getting to Grossman, and if you can take away the deep ball to Berrian, they could have problems moving the football (if they can't run it). The way the Patriots took away the deep ball to Berrian was via 4 potential pass-interference calls, 2 of which actually did draw flags.
  25. So, this is roughly what I'd been expecting us to wind up doing for quite some time...I'm just hoping KW is smart enough to get the Halos to throw in one of the guys that they've had so much trouble with but who seemed to have real talent...I'd love to take Dallas McPherson off of their hands, and let it come down to McPherson v. Fields in ST to see who is in shape enough and ready to take over at 3rd base, with the other going to AAA.
